These video recordings of Arthur by Phill Niblock are my favorite in his whole archive. For this performance, Arthur had set up a large mylar sheet, which was used to reflect colored lights. Arthur's friend and collaborator, Steven Hall, would tug at the mylar sheet and adjust the lights to create dynamic opalescent illumination, as if underwater; while Niblock focused his lens on close-up perspectives of Arthur's face and hands. Transcendent!
Thanks for info about the opalescent lighting set-up. This is a really special way to experience his music. I also love how Arthur starts off without echo/reverb, slowly introduces it. The audio recording on this video is sublime as well. Pure headphone bliss.
