One of the most experimental singers died before the world could really take in his music. The internet is an amazing place for reliving the great moments created by Arthur Russell and his music. RIP.
That's true, the internet can be a lovely place sometimes. I was watching a Nick Mulvey interview and he said Arthur Russel was a reference. His music is just amazing and I want to watch his documentary now.
@@theactorjohnlarroquette this is true, but imo his music was absolutely foundation shaking and if he had more time with us, perhaps the foundations would've been shaken. Alas, we cannot wish for such things now. Only make peace with the pieces.
i dunno why but him coughing made me cry. just such a simple, human moment in the middle of such a beautiful expression. and he keeps going. such a wonderful soul
I guess there are instruments and vocals but it always feels like Arthur Russell played his music in the very nerves that I'm supposed to be hear it with. Melopoeia

His Go Bang was a big club hit in the 80s and 90s

I mean Arthur had been working in the scene for over a decade and had tons of releases and adoring fans

@@gierasole did he not shake the foundations? Beach House plays in car commercials and some r&b singers sound more like Arthur than Marvin

the vocal control, the melodic originality, the intimacy, its like a fertile garden bed, always so inspired by this music
'a fertile garden bed'.
Man said fertile garden bed 💀💀
i could not even imagine how amazing and peaceful it would be to see him live
There’s no one like Arthur. He might be one of the most original musicians ever

The video work here matches the ethereal nature of his voice and music so well... dark space, brilliant light... amazing that this exists.
i have thought the same thing many times
RIP Phill Niblock - thanks for this
There's a whole universe inside this .... amazing
This emits its own space-time field .. ceremonial, shamanic, transcendental ... World-making ...
You are not wrong. Something is happening there.
Such a tragic story of a genius.
This still beats most anything on this miraculous platform we got going here. Resonant beauty incarnate.
It’s okay to celebrate a musician without feeling the need to shit on others, I promise.
I see the divine in you Russell.
i could just get lost in this footage forever. keep returning
song is Soon-To-Be Innocent Fun. Lovely, of course
Incredible. Remarkable talent, and soul. Thank you Arthur.

he plays a lot of songs, quoting the melodies and lyrics... for example in 21:34 he's singing the boy with a smile/by the moon

Innocent fun led to disaster. Poor soul.
Anybody can make out the full lyrics?
