Thanks guys for playing at a nice steady pace that allows us to really appreciate this beautiful mazurka. So many folks make a race of these old tunes and, for me at least, that destroys them
Gorgeous version of this mazurka! I knew this tune from an old Boys of the Lough record 'Live At Passim' from 1974, buried at the end of a four tune set. The liner notes had some information about the tune: "...which is named after the late Sonny Brogan, the Dublin accordion player. The tune became more widely known when recorded by the Chieftains. We change this mazurka into a double jig and then back to a mazurka." The notes imply that Sonny used to lilt the tune a lot at country house ceilidhs, and so his name was attached to the tune.
Love this tune, beautifully played, your instruments compliment each other. Is your guitar accompaniment written down anywhere? Would love to give it a try. Thanks guys for your channel.
We have sheet music, chords and practice play along backing tracks for many of our tunes over at www.patreon.com/thegoodtune We are continuously adding more and more to our database so that we will have all of our tunes available. Sonny’s isn’t there yet but it will be added!

Perfect rendition of this tune.
Great stuff - named for Irish accordion player Sonny Brogan (1906 - 1965) a great job made of it
