I'm from Germany. I was born in 1963 and heard this music as a teenager in 1979/1980. Once I recorded a tape and heard it at school. The other students looked at me strangely and I was a freak for them. They weren't ready yet.
I was born 1957, I'm from Netherlands (Amsterdam) and Ash were one of the select group of bands I LOVED in the early and later 70's and I do remember I was the only one (and a semi asian girl at that too) during my high school years, into Ash music
Could we just stop whining about last members and celebrate 50 years of great music by WA.People change, circumstances change, it's a tribute to Andy that he has kept the quality of the live sound more of less constant through the years. Many great guitarists have played along side him. Bob Skeat is a great bass player. Joe Crabtree is probably the most talented drummer they have ever had. All the past members have done their part to keep this sound alive and rocking for 50 years. It's their songs that stand the test of time, not necessarily who is playing them. Along with UFO, their music has been a source of pleasure to me for most of my life.. God bless them for that.
Don't forget Mark Abrahams. Superb guitarist and a really nice guy too. As are all the band. If only all bands were so accommodating to their fans to actually meet and shake hands and sign merch.
All shapes and forms of WA i love . the music is next to none.
Marty's band has WA spirit. Andy has a stiff group and is uptight. There! Marty has the soul.
I am still loving them so much. This is the best band ever. What about today? There is nothing to be compared with this music.
40~50年前にアルバム"Live Dates"を買ってツインギターを聞き、衝撃を受けて自分も弾けるように一生懸命ギターを練習した思い出があります。
なかでも”Throw Down the Sword”と"Phoenix"が大好きです。こんなに年月が経っていても、今でも車やウォークマンで聴いています。
音楽は本当に良いですね。
Brilliant ,persephone is my favourite track I am 63 yrs Auld and still listening to them amongst others from that era
63 - Thatcher Youngstorget?
STILL SOUNDING GREAT AS EVER,ALWAYS HAVE GREAT,GUITAR PLAYERS TO KEEP THE SOUND THEY ARE KNOWN FOR, SAW THEM 8 TIMES BACK IN 1972,1973, WISHBONE ASH AND THE ALLMAN BROTHERS WERE THE BEST 2 -GUITAR BANDS EVER.😎🎸🔊🎶☮️ BOB.
Great to see the band, who are bearing the name and playing their fantastic music even though they got hated for constant line-up changes. I don't care what others think in this matter, some of the current members are with WA for longer than the original ones. Their craftsmanship is outstanding, so is their input to the band's progress. Time to move on, whinge bags, Andy is the only person being constantly in the band and he keeps up providing us some mean rock and roll for no matter what. Enjoy it and be grateful!
It is not "hate". Andy is a ruthless dude (self described - that means he is Nasty) and pushed Marty to court and won. Andy runs a decent group but if you LISTEN to both bands you will see. Tim Brown swings and Crabtree is about as stiff and uptight as Andy Powell. I see Andy's band as I like Mark. For those that have Ears.....use em! WA soul is in Marty's band. Andy can only approximate Martin, and Martin's guitarists and vocals and drummer make mish mash out of Andy's sterile pile. If they toured the States you would see. It is plain. I know how fans want to defend Andy but he is a self described asshole and his music reflects this energy. Simple.
@@bluedream9668 Mmmmm...Andy Powell has always been an exceptional guitar player and remains so..not sure anyone would make mish mash out of his playing.
Wishbone Ash are nothing without Martin Turner, the voice of Ash
@@Pedro2706 Laurie was always the best guitarist in Wishbone Ash in my opinion.
@@danvelgtr Certainly an exceptional guitarist and the stuff he did with WA is brilliant.Whether he is "better" than AP who knows-both sound great to me and even better when playing together!
The music of Wishbone Ash throughout the years to this day says it all. Nothing more said matters.
40 years since I first heard Wishbone ash...this concert gave me the chills finally seeing them in concert on RUclips
Nothing without Martin Turner
Harry, ich hör es , nach 30 Jahren wieder. Was schick ich .... wow❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Still sounding as distinctive as ever. 👍👍👍
16 at school and support was The Motors first concert...now 60 years old....jsut love you guys true to the sound!
Real musicians been a fan of theirs for decades. Always see them when they come to my town.
He pulls Old right into the Future despite Personnel changes. Been with you since 1972.
I guess WA is 50 years in action in 2019, what a milestone! Good job, lads.
My wife and I were lucky enough to catch this lineup of WA in 2018 and again in 2020 when they were playing in Phoenix, Arizona. I first heard them back in 1970 and they are as good today as the original lineup was then. May there be many years more to come.
After all these years, and the many ups and downs within' the band, Andy, Bob, Joe & Mark never cease to amaze. Those sweet locked in harmony guitars still send a rush up and down my spine. Love it and this video. Thanks for posting.
...but to this day, Martin Turner's band sound like the original incarnation (and Mk2) of the band. Same spirit, vocals, bass playing etc. The twin guitars can be reimagined, the rest? no. As an example, Front Page News here is shockingly bad.
@@hairlessx11 you're nuts
@@sekrph No , you are.
ive heard both variants of WA and they all sound great, Andy's band is a bit more progressive and creating new product as well which is awesome, its not about good or bad its just getting to hear both bands carrying on this fantastic music. Graham is an absolute treasure to keep those licks alive..
this band always brings me such good vibes
So awesome to see these songs come alive on stage and they sound as good as the record.. incredible musicians, STUNNING MUSIC
Their longevity is amazing. One of my favourite bands of all time! The King will come is the stand out track
Any Wishbone line up is just fine with me, I have been with them since 1970, through out many changes, but they never disappoint.
IMO Wishbone Ash are...with the dual melodic lines and breaks,
The English Allman Brothers. Always a treat no matter
who is playing their music. Many bands could take a clue
about lead and rhythm guitar from these tunes and players.
Great job Andy.
I think both bands appeared same year. The US WBA? or UK Allman bros?? Leave both bands alone, I doubt either knew each other and they just made great music.
@@brianokeefe1100
Totally different sounds songs and range of music. Different approaches to music. But both totally amazing. Was blessed to have seen both in their heyday.
Allman Brothers via England. Exactly right brother
Just hearing this makes me smile! SO HAPPY to be seeing them in May!
I still have my first Wishbone Ash album (Wishbone Four) that my dad brought back for me from England when he went therein 1973.
Thats one of my favorite albums. I still have my vinyl copy!
I saw them play Bath University in 1971. They weren’t playing well that night and the audience was not impressed, especially when we were criticised by the band for not being enthusiastic! They walked off stage after half an hour to a chorus of boos and derision, one of my most memorable nights out.
I'm planning to see Wishbone Ash for the 3rd time this year!! They are coming to Ohio where I live now. Saw them in 1978 in London (Powell, Upton, Turner, Wisefield) and in 2016 in Indiana (Powell, Manninen, Skeat, Crabtree) . Yes, different line-ups but both concerts were great!
I saw them in 1978
Awesome band
Must have been right before the Rona. Love it! That beautiful classic duel guitar send me through the roof into orbit ant to heavens and beyond.
These guys work extremely hard to do the dual lead parts. It shows how dedicated they are. Brilliant!
So glad to see this. 2019 too!!!! Wow. Saw them in the 70s. Wow. Memories.
First saw, and heard WA they were opening for The Who. Edwardsville, Illinois c' 1971 - they blew my @$$ away. Caught them another 10 or 12 times on both sides of the Atlantic; last time about 1980. Glad to see Andy has kept up the jams ! ~
the 72 thumbs down are clueless to say the least. Bringing 2hrs of guitar music like this to stage and keep it exciting is a monumental task and WA has always done that PERIOD.
Love this line up of Ash, they rip.
The old songs are the best.
Saw Wishbone at springhead pub in Hull in the early nineties. Absolutely fantastic.
what a show!! fabulous!! Andy is still rockin' always nice to see!!
F.U.B.B. LIVE OMG. now thats F.U.B.B for sure THANKS FOR THIS
Great concert and great footage; excellent quality. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed the concert. It was more or less the same as in Ghent so it was kind of reliving the Ghent- concert.
Ahh Wishbone Ash. I've loved you since I was 14, now I am 35. Argus is a druidic triumph. Your debut album is hippy brilliance. Lady Whisky and Errors of my Ways are just perfection, they still want to make me drop acid and dance around churchyards. As previously mentioned your inter -band relationships are a total let down, but then I was in bands and I know how it feels.. Every time I get drunk I divert to you because underneath the tripe and cobwebs, you are just SUCH a great band. I must agree with others that Ted Turners gift of melody and playing cannot be equalled by any (you only have to listen to hear it), that is why all the WA session players always follow his structure. Anyways my theory is that Martin and Andy likely came to blows - they strike me as big characters who struggle to compromise. Nonetheless: Underrated . Underappreciated. Relentless. Wishbone Ash forever... Just please get rid of your current bassist and get me in the band.
Saw them at Hammersmith odeon
1978
Just brilliant
Amazing, but my favorite line up is the mark II Line-Up with Laurie Wisefield.
That was for me the dream comes true 😎🎸
I saw that very lineup in 1975 at Long Beach Arena, CA. when they headlined over KISS. A very honorable mention must go out to Camel, who opened the show!
I agree that the lineup with Laurie Wisefield was the best.
Me too, and it's not even close. Those albums were amazing -- their most consistent albums, best songs, and impressive solos. Good to see them giving some rare respect to that era with tracks 4-6 on this. (They start at 15:45)
Have to put in a word for Ted Turner here. He was in the band when they turned out their most accomplished albums.
I agree with the best line-up, but the best album remains Argus. And ted Turner was one of the composer, so. But Laurie Wisefield was the main act of Home, and The Alchemist is one the finest prog albums…
How is This Band not Recognized More? Most Epic Band Ever, discovery of a decade for me, and I want to add, what an Epic rhytmic section and ofcourse the solos, Masterpiece, BTW that Les Paul makes it for 95% of the tracks what a great instrument my favourite :)
you have to be kidding !
Followed these for years Fantastic.
Que aula de Duetos De guitarras! Até porque são os Pais!! Wishbone Ash
Jamming! Great line up! Used to listen to these guys in the womb.
Fantastic sound and great Harmonies .Great live band .
This line up sounds great especially performing the classics from the Argus era. Hoping to see them in the UK later this year on the 50th anniversary tour.
I guess their song Rock N Roll Widow is all but forgotten by now. I was in England in '73 and I've always loved the version from Live Dates. The song could be beefed up with more to the story an extra verse. The guitars in the live dates version sent shivers up my backbone aka as a thrilling rush. I'm working on a version for open mics.
Just booked to see these guys in Birmingham, roll on October 🤘
thanks to andy powell for always holding up wishbone ash, because they were a really exceptionally good band back then, and they are still today, thanks to andy powell and the constantly changing musical talents. I just miss that he never talks about Mark Birch. The concert in Shepherd's Bush in April 2000 was one of the best performances for me and a delight for all the senses, also through and with Mark Birch. You could feel the joy of the game in everyone, and that made it a really great evening for everyone, including the audience. Alongside Andy Powell, Mark Birch is a very great musical personality, with far too little attention. And actually andy regretted this lack of attention from his band in the 70s. rightly.
Just brilliant. Fantastic guitarrs and awesome drummer
Got to give it to Andy, he’s stuck to his guns over the years, great to see it !
Yes but he either has a cold or is losing his voice big time
I'd like to hear Wishbone Ash do some material from their "New England" CD, that was some of their absolute best material ever!
New England, yeah rockin' with Laurie Wisefield
fishing4truth, to me "There's the rub" is by far the best album🤘
Each to his or her own Soren, diversity makes life interesting.
@@creedence57 "There's The Rub"
Alexander Thuronyi, That's right..it was the damn autocorrect on my Ipad that made the error🤘
I was there! And I was glad:)
These two are doing a sort of thing like Loggins & Messina used to do with similar voices leading each other into carrying the weight . . . the way. Nice!
Awesome...sounds very good.
Thank you for the share!! Great!!
Thanks for sharing this gig! Nice to hear/see. Didn't know they were still at it. Really enjoyed the musical memories, x
Ah yes, my first exposure was at the Satsop River Fair & Tincup Races in Washington State circa 1971 I can still hear their signature song at that time which was "Blowin Free" & Andy sure worked his Flying V.
Хорошая группа......................Приезжали еще в СССР в Ленинград ...........\кажется 1988 год\.............был.
40年以上前からのファンです。いつでもいいですからまた日本に来てほしいです。アンディー!
does anyone here speak japanese?
FABULOUS SOUND AND VIDEO, THANK-YOU FOR BEING THERE, NOW I CANN BE THERE TOO!
As much as I wish there could be a mending of fences between Martin Turner and Andy Powell I would much rather hear this band perform these tunes. Powell's playing is iconic and much more evocative, lyrical, and memorable as far as the songs are concerned. The vocals are much improved since Turner cant hit the notes on pitch anymore in his version and Powell's group plays with the right volume, tone, and attitude of the early band in its heyday. Love that they have gone back to the Orange amps which have THE Wishbone Ash tone!!!
Top Band , I Love !!
More wishbone ash please !
Always the Best.
The 48 that dislike this just don't know how to appreciate
Seit den siebzigern schon eine meiner liebsten Gruppe, vor allem mit dem Album Live-Dates.
Great WA!!! And were are Martin & Ted Turner??? And Steve Upton??? For me, the best WA
formation ever!!!
They played in a band called Wishbone Ash , this is not Wishbone Ash.
Both WA are better than 98% of what's currently available for intelligent listeners.....the millenials are musically deficient.......
Long gone. It's called progress of time!
These guys always reminded me of medieval type music for some reason.
Its got a baroque feel...esp Argus album.
Going to see them in Washington state Aug 2019-looks like WA is flying many miles to do this one show! Thanks!
Powell Ash you mean .
Andy's voice just right for the songs off of FPNews album. One of my favorite albums. "Come in From The Rain" could've been a bit faster for my taste though. 😊
Twin guitar heaven!
Bloody superb!!
I was there!!!!!!!
Nice one guys, sounding good Marky boy.
Amazing show. 💯. 👏👏👏👏👏
Saw them many times in Houston
espetacular , como sempre bons
Thanks to those for their time and effort of posting high quality video and audio
god how they have aged well - in their 20's in the 70's in their 30's - 60's in 2019 !
LOVE!!!!!!!
¡Mucha fibra!. El Rock And Roll está más vivo que antes.
Robin Trower/Wishbone Ash, Winterland, San Francisco, Ca. 1976-77
I last saw this band at the Bickershawe rock festival in 1972
rod mclaughlin hi i lived at bickershaw in 1972 ...i was olso at this rock festival these guys were utter magic ,,,and still are ... lol xx ps what a line up of genius bands ....
For me it was at The Great Western Festival outside Lincoln, May 1972
I was there too! Great festival.
公開してくれてありがとう。
Круть- моя любимая команда
All this discussion about Andy and Martin and who's right and wrong and whIch bands the best will no doubt split opinions. I give credit to Andy for keeping the band going and releasing so much new material over the years. Both Elegant Stealth and Blue Horizon are excellent albums. However personally I think Coat Of Arms is disappointing with weak lyrics overall. Still love both bands though and Martin Turner has excellent musicians playing with him. Kept me entertained for 50 years and long may it continue!
Super banda, buen grupazo👏🎼suenan de cine
34:43 for 4 mins... Excellent...
Andy always has a good guitar player by his side. My favorites remain the original, Ted Turner and after him Ben Granfelt and Muddy Manninen were the ones that pleased me the most. I never liked Laurie Wisefield. Thanks for the video.
laurie wisefield is great so is martin turner
Ok, your opinion and my opinion. I really never liked his guitar, I always found him more interested in looking like a heartthrob than exercising his creativity .. of course this is just my vision. Martin and Steve Upton are forever in the band's history and in the heart of their fans ... us.
I second +Seventysounds.
I discovered Argus et al. in the early 1980s which impressed me deeply. In 1988 and 1989, I was able to see the reunion line-up live, opening for Rush in a grand arena in 1988 and as the sole act in a 1989 pub setting. They blew me away. For some reason, the amazing, almost magic power of their live sound never made it through to any of their live recordings.
Conserning Wiseman, I came across his work quite recently (talking decades here...), when I was starting to complete my record collection of Wishbone Ash studio albums. To be honest, I like Andy Powell's bluesy modern takes more than 'There's the rub' and their ilk. But that's just me, I'm not going to tell you what you should like or not. Certainly, though, the Wiseman albums are very much not up my alley.
OscarWilde-Fan, my first time was just with a live album of them. In 1973 was released the magnificent "Live Dates" and was the year that I met them. I don't know if you ever heard this album, if not, listen because all the power you mention is there ... I don't believe you do not notice this on this album. I never had problems with Andy, my problem was only with Laurie who never told me much about his guitar .. but as I said, this is me, my taste. I think most WA fans like Laurie's guitar.
@@Seventysongs : I agree. Everybody of course is free to like whatever they fancy!
Phoenix 1:27:28 15 minutes-remember me of long forgotten times! Also an epic like 8 Miles High from Golden Earing!
Also, why do you go to a concert just to ignore and talk over the band? I mean seriously, WTH?
They are talking about the old band
A common problem these days I am afraid. I've been to some quieter folk events recently where it has been difficult to hear the music over the audience. Requests for quiet from the band fall on deaf ears. Personal expression rules - even if it is just a stream of banalities! I was at this WA concert and the music was thankfully loud enough so the chatterers evident on the recording were drowned out. Didn't spoil a bloody amazing concert!
David EarleRobinson Robinson ... W.A. began their various and subsequently split lives as a pub rock n blues prog band. Martin Turners' American version does well as does Andy Powells' and both are gr8. My personal fave is with Ben Greenfeld. This one will settle in and do well although Andys' voice is changing... maybe it's time to bring in a really good lead singer n harp player...
Рок для души🎸🎸🎸✌️✌️✌️ нехватает бассов(звук) а так норм.
Да супер группа люблю.более даже дип перпл
Einsenberg can play guitar...👍👍👍❤
i like wishbone ash , itz rock jazz krautrock
The absence of Muddy Manninen in the group is felt...
