    Best way ever, away with the tugboat anchor and run old school diesel. Like old mechanics say , diesel is for power and gasoline is for washing parts

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 5 лет назад +7

      Carlos Chavez yet the 460 “boat anchor” they pulled made more torque & hp than the detroit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a GM guy & I love my 2stroke detroits. But these guys are going the wrong way. If the truck is too small to stick a 92 series in...you need a bigger truck.

      ROTAXD, the issue is that the 460 gasser won’t last as long as a 2Stroke Detroit nor will it run as efficiently, & cheaper to fuel.

    I had a friend who had a 4-53 in a Ford pickup back in the 90's. He was a fireman in Long Beach CA. Did 25 MPH over the grapevine when he brought it home from Bakersfield empty. Did 25 MPH over the grapevine pulling his trailer and full of stuff. I don't think he kept it very long. Sure it had pulling power, but a 7.3L would out pull it, and was much quieter. Another friend has a 2-53 running a generator in his off grid home in the desert . Very loud engine. But reliable and strong!

    What a great father son project! Thanks for posting, have a few Detroits and find them very interesting engines an engineering marvel really. Clever intake with no valves to worry about! They all run clean and do not smoke! No computer = small carbon foot print because you do not have to throw away and build another engine every few years.

    Babylon falling : 1977 Ford. Factory installed at Detroit dealer (Mesker) all mods were done there ie: front end beefed up, shocks replaced and other things to make everything fit properly. I’ve driven this truck for the 77k miles that is on it, never a problem. Just to old to have anymore fun with it. Also comes with a brand new short block still in the crate from Detroit.

It will be hunting (revving up and down) when u find the point where it 650 rpms at the top of the hunt (highest rev while idling) set the jam nut on the low idle screw. Oh one other thing if you aren't already aware, you want to be running some kind of fuel lubricity adder to your fuel. EPA's low sulphur fuel was designed to have lower lubricating qualities to kill motors like these so you'd HAVE to buy a new piece of shit.
    Simplest solution? 100:1 walmart supertech 2 cycle oil additive.

    • @Misfitpathfinder
      @Misfitpathfinder 9 лет назад

      themotorfreak1 the 453 is a 4 banger. theres other ones too. one thing that helps when you look a detroits is the first number stand for the number of cylinders, then theres usually a letter to show the shape of the engine, then the numbers fallowing are the cubic inches per cylinder. example a 6v53 is a 6cyl v type engine with 53 cubic inches per cylinder. so its a 318ci engine. these 4-53Ts are popular for swaps

      Hekili the t stands for turbo. The turbo usually gives it a whistle or a chirp noise to it,

      A freshly rebuilt one from a well known engine builder will run you about $6,000. I just picked up a well used '79 GMC 6000 box truck that has a 453T last week off of Craig's list and it was only $1,500 for the whole truck. The Jake brakes are hard to find....

      Mr3wheeledbike no problem man. if it were me though I would definitely look for one out of an automotive application with the governor on the side you want. I went through the hassle of moving the governor and blower around and it was very costly and hard to find the correct gear. also if it was out of an automotive application it most likely has the updated block and 4 valve head vs 2 and is a big advantage. And just little things like throttle linkage and clutch linkage is nice as a starting point.

      Larz That's not a bad deal. I picked up this turbo one for 400 and the non turbo with jakes for 1100. the turbo one needed a full rebuild and new crank which was around 10k.
