    Nice work. I hate the fact my tundra has no extra USB outlets. Only thing I would do differently, toss those blue crip connectors. Splice, solder and shrink swap all the wire connections. Take a little longer but its a way better connection. I have seen those blue connectors fail in the past. Keep up the videos !!

      Thanks! Soldering definitely has an added benefit. If you decide to do it, let me know how the project goes!

    I was wondering if you added the nice battery cable clamps? If so, where did you get them?

      No, those clamps were stock. I'd imagine you can get some great clamps on Amazon tho.

    I just did this to my 07 SR5 and wondered if you had an issue with the USBs staying hot (powered) even with your truck off.
    I have the same USB kit but orange glow. Wired it directly in to replace the existing outlet and the plug stays lit constantly. I don’t want a slow drain on the battery so I guess 8”” have to run an accessory switched tail from the front.

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  2 года назад

      No, I don't have that issue. I purchased plugs that did not have an always-on feature just for that reason. The link is in the description for the model I bought and installed.

    Great video, thanks! Looking to pick up a Tundra Platinum early next year and this will be one of the first things on my list. Did you have your dealer do the TRD suspension install as part of the purchase, or did you do it yourself after? I have a very specific ask from Toyota as I want the new 2019 TRD pro Fox shocks and 2019 TRD pro wheels - and these are obviously not an option as part of the Platinum. Thanks, John.

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you! The dealer I purchased from has a customs shop inside of it, so I worked with that team to customize the added TRD suspension, wheels, and tires. This allowed me to roll the truck out in my flavor immediately with only 9 miles on it.
      The packages Toyota offers are an interesting mix. Therefore, I wanted all the technological gadgets of the Platinum with some of the TRD Pro offerings which required customization. First time for me, but it's been fun. I recently added the TRD Cold Air Intake which seems to have added a great sound (especially when pushing the throttle hard). I'll upload that video once I've edited it.
      Thanks for watching, please subscribe, and share your truck once you get it!

    Very nice work. What about adding a 110v outlet? any ideas?

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  5 лет назад

      Thank you! The only thing I can think of would be adding an inverter to the line and mounting the 110 outlet like I mounted the USB charging ports.

    What size step bit were you using. Looks like a 1" then you dremmeled the rest to size? Looks clean. Good job dude.

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the compliment! Yes, the USB adapters required a 1 1/8" bit, but I only had a 1" bit. I used the dremmel to finish the rest. However, your local hardware store will sell that bit in a 1 1/8"...but they're ~$40!

    How did you know which wire was positive and which was negative?

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  5 лет назад

      Sorry for the delayed response. Apparently RUclips had your comment in "held for review" limbo. The positive negative won't matter in this scenario.

    I hope you checked the fuse size, of your 12 volt plug. Because you just added an extra 10 amps to that fuse. I seen that each usb port had its own fuse, but you added to the total amperage of that circuit.

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  4 года назад

      10 amps...if you use all of the USB ports at once and they all require that amperage. So far so good. I've had up to three devices plugged in at once and it's been working fine since the install.

    • @DualSportGuy
      @DualSportGuy 4 года назад +1

      Militarized Citizen If you use just the usb or just the 12 volt you should be good. But my worry would be if be some chance, you used all of them at the same time. Boom overload, you would be safer to put the usb on it own circuit. It easy to do to be safe

    great idea, I have the 2018 Tundra SR, so mine didn't come with much fancy stuff. I have started adding to mine. I had the Basic Entune, so I managed to find a Entune Plus radio from a 2016 Tundra, go that installed, used my old SIriusXM radio antenna, it worked great and the HD Weather and live traffic now works with the other antenna that mounts under the dash.
    I bought some after market fog lights, but of course mine didn't have the switch on the headlight switch, so I bought one for a SR5, got a friend to install it on the steering column and it worked! Next step is the intermittent windshield wiper switch, should be an easy install.
    So, next after this will be USB ports since the Tundra doesn't have any. So I liked how you did yours, but how can you make it that it is always on? But if I do it always on, I see the blue LEDs, so would that not be a good idea? I would like to have my phone charge say if we have been at the beach and camping, but I would not want to leave my truck running just to charge the phone. Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thank you for your video, looking forward to more mods :)

      Thank you for the compliment! Toyota does seem to lag behind the industry standard when it comes to technology, unfortunately. However, there are work-arounds and it gives us DIY'ers something fun to do - customize our trucks! The Entune Plus upgrade you've done is almost a must. Have a good one and keep on customizing!

      Hey Rob, for some reason the comments on my RUclips Studio app weren't completely showing. I didn't mean to miss the remainder of your comments/questions. Since I tapped from power at the cigarette lighter, the USB power comes on when I switch the key to the "Accessories" position so I don't have to turn my truck on. If you want this to always run hot then you'll have to run a wire all the way to the battery (and through your firewall) in order for that option. But yes, it will constantly draw power from your battery.

    I do not like the fact that Toyota didn't add these or make the cig plugs hot all the time..... when I install mine I'm making them hot so I dont have to have the key on just to charge

      I completely agree. Studying "The Toyota Way," I also understand that Toyota is a practical manufacturer. Even so, most of their other vehicles come with new tech, so you'd expect their top-of-the-line truck too as well. Here's to the new Gen in a couple of years!

  • @mildside322
    @mildside322 3 года назад +1

    Not bashing your tutorial, but, this is absolutely the wrong way to wire. Great idea up until the tapping. Just make a double jumper and tap directly off 12v prongs. Cleaner, safer, and will last forever.

    its too bad Toyota is that far behind on technology and creature comforts ...still in 2007 mode.

    • @MilitarizedCitizen
      @MilitarizedCitizen  4 года назад +1

      Yep. If you dig into the Toyota Way and understand their manufacturing philosophy as well as understand the Japanese culture, they are very practical. The trade off is extremely high quality. This 2018 Tundra will last me well over 15 years without much maintenance costs.
