I hopefully starting a “filter less aquarium soon, I plan have 3 rainbow fish and 3-5 corydoras and maybe a couple shrimps or snails, it about 90ltrs, but I can’t run more power to that room, might be able to squeeze an LED light if needed but it’s right by a wondow that doesn’t get direct sun except maybe 1 hour first thing in morning, plan is to mainly be moss and maybe a couple easy care plants and thick layer gravel bed at bottom also, it’s basically a test/project tank, not a display tank because I currently need redo silicon on it to make sure it water tight (very old aquarium) 🥰🐶
I have a dirted 20 heavily planted. Started with 6 platties. I don’t do regular water changes , been running about a year. There are baby fish in it. So far I HAVNT lost any fish it this aquarium
Under rated channel. Lol I just asked this question on an older video of yours. I hate my filter it’s just too noisy. I’ve thought about a sponge filter.. but I’m honestly thinking of just going filterless. What’s the substrate??
I just saw your other comment too lol, it depends on the fish stocking, if you want medium to high stocking you'll most likely need a sponge filter for the bio capacity, but if your going to run a low stock or low bio load inhabitants then you can just use an airstone to create current and the bacteria that grows on your surfaces will be enough
@@TrafishAquatics definitely going to add the airstone. People complain about the noise. I didn’t mind it in comparison to a hanging filter motor noise. If I have to use a sponge filter I’ll go for that. I’ve had a planted aquarium before but always with a hanging filter. Not sure it even needed one.. This was 10 years ago and I’m just starting to get back into the hobby. I found out yesterday that moss balls are now illegal. 😂 the local fish store seemed offended I even mentioned it.
Yea they're illegal because the last large importation of then into the US was infested with zebra muscles which are highly invasive, as long as the airstone has enough movement of the water it should be fine for a low stocking and a planted tank
Yes mulm, that would be fish poop and waste that has been broken down by bacterial colonies into a plant absorbable form. Basicly the brown sludge that comes out of your gravel when you gravel vac.
If any of you want help setting up a low tech aquarium check out Diana walstads book called ecology of the planted aquarium. It helped me on my journey of low tech tanks. Great info in that book for sure.
That’s a really cool way to set up. Nice tank and I love white Clouds!!
Thank you!
I love your videos. They're always relaxing and also are always food for thought!
Thank you!

That's awesome, you must have enough plants to keep up with the nitrate load and establish a good equilibrium! Well done!
@@TrafishAquatics happened by luck lol.
Still happened 😆

GREAT VIDEO
I need to try a filterless aquarium
Peace ✌️
Thank you
Did you say "mulm and detritus"? What is mulm? i've replayed it a couple times can't hear it well.

I always run filters. Even tho I run small filters. I don't really like to run without 😅
Another great video!
Thank you!
i was looking for way to save on electricity bill and this im awesome info to rum one air pump for my five tanks
Deffinately a good way to save money, especially if your planning on running sponge filters

I agree, it was a good read
I have a fitted planted with no filter
That's awesome!
What a beautiful aquarium. Did you happen to do a tutorial video when you set this up? I’d be very interested to see how this is done.
I did, it's my aquaterrarium build!
