      hmm i use kinda similar config like you sadly i just cant afford or have good enough psu for 980ti but still:
      i7 3770 at 4ghz (coolermaster xdream cpu cooler)
      8gb ram 2x4 1333mhz
      650ti 1gb (
      2tb hdd
      480 gb ssd (has dualboot winxp./10 on it -winxp 32 bit by the way
      and mobo is gigabyte z68 xp ud3p 1155 (good board heap of usb ports and 2x 3.0 ports aswell sa like 8 2.0 which is good
      yes i know its not a beast but it runs ALMOST every winxp era games except maybe crysis and like far cry 2 /3 (but all older games like i dont know gta vice city san andreas gta 4 gta 3 moorhuhn capitan claw and stuff run flawlessly
      edit: i put better psu now so i can put 980ti if i want to

    The speed increase on the higher resolution is from the bottleneck being taken off the cpu.

    • @tradito
      @tradito 6 месяцев назад

      That doesn't make any sense, that's not how bottlenecks work. The "neck" on the cpu didn't just get wider because of a resolution change, is still the same.
      It's probably a sli/driver issue or doom 3 changed advanced settings without notice.

    • @tradito
      @tradito 6 месяцев назад

      or most probably the same bottleneck is still in place and it's just run to run variance

    Nice little retro PC! However...the modern RGB and case kinda ruin the retro aesthetic, lol. Though it sounds like reliability is more the concern for you. Just be prepared to have those old boards serviced at some point, they may need to be recapped in the near future. Some of the legacy equipment we use at work that still run on XP needed to be recapped.

      This hardware is about a new as I go, I do retro and barely think of anything beyond p4 as being valid for a build like this for xp gaming so even this was a stretch. I'd say this would be a good build in 2008, last year of xp. I didn't think xp games did well in widescreen? if they support it at all?

      @Jackpkmn 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@66mhzbrain Just because it can do 1080p doesn't mean it has to do 1080p. And really it depends on what you define as "Windows XP." Like to me Windows XP encompasses everything that Windows XP runs on and can run. So that means it didn't even end in 2014 with the support closure. It doesn't really start in 2001 but stuff older than that isn't really useful. The best thing about Windows XP is this flexibility in software compatibility spanning more than a decade to me.

      Im not sure. I'll see if they feel hot. The gt was a die shrink on the more poweful 8 series and draws less power and therefore presumably cooler. Anand tech reviewed these reference cards and never mentioned heat as an issue. I'll see if I can stress test them and get at least an ambient temp.
