All your “out of focus” shots have so much character, I think even for clients, unless you are selling an ad campaign for a sunglasses company, the work looks absolutely professional. For fashion editorials all those pictures are more than perfect.
So I talked myself into getting the GFX 50Sii (yes, I'm bummed its not phase detect but another $5k will will get there with the new one). Initially I got the Mitakon 65 and the Mamiya 100 2.8 and I couldn't be happier. I wish Mitakon would make a 120 or or 150 that's as good as the 65mm 1.4. So after watching this video again , I went on ebay and ordered the Mamiya 150 3.5 (they make a 2.8 at 3x the cost) and the 210 4.0. Also cheat code for using focus peaking: use the bright red and set a B&W profile (easier to see) Then you can change it to whatever you want in post, assuming you shoot raw. Still have to nail my color grade, my initial test were just checking out vintage glass both MF and FF. So @Cam , if your offer to do a GFX color grading video still holds, I would certainly watch and give you a thumbs up ! Love the videos, keep on creating my friend !
The angle you choose for your shots make the whole shoot look more lively and connected to the audience! It gives you a feeling that the viewer is in fact looking at the subject in person. Amazing work!
Cam, really, really appreciate this. Have a Mamiya 645 and most of the lenses you show in the video, and have been wondering how those would work in a GFX body... it's such a "niche" thing that I thought nobody would make a video about it, but you did! Thanks!
I watched all your GFX 50R videos before I took the plunge on one 2 months ago...I LOVE that camera and totally understand why you look back at those shoots so fondly! The color and dynamic range is insane, and the shooting experience is so satisfying! Glad you picked up the 50S II and just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me to pick up a GFX 50!
I love the merging of old and new tech. It feels really good. I’ve been using vintage glass almost exclusively on my Sony for a couple years now and am not looking back. I think the idea for me is there are some things we already got right. Old glass from the 60s and 70s is just something special that we got right. And in the name of perfection or something we have engineered out all the beautiful character, most contemporary glass is just kinda boring and bland from a creative and artistic standpoint. Love to see this stuff! Beautiful photographs!
Love this, been using the Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 for Nikon on my gfx and loving it. Super versatile and weirdly easy to manual focus. Love this stuff man!
Man.. the colour grade on your youtube videos is so nice! Love how it matches to the style of the photos that you are taking and editing. Cheers for all the infos!
Nice! I'm really happy with my Mamiya lenses on my GFX 50r. The 80 mm 1.9 is definitely my favorite of the bunch but the 150 mm was surprisingly nice! I was not expecting that kind of quality but it delivers!
man i loved the music and transition on 0:55. once again great video annd steller shots. really inspiring!! you're such a good videographer too. what can't you do!
Been shooting 645 glass on the R5 and the Komodo for a minute; been soo freakin curious on how it would look on a medium format digital camera. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VID. Some of my favorite portraits from you dude!!
These images are fantastic! I love the full colors that your work shares with the older mamiya glass ! Ive been doing some similar work with Fuji systems using both mamiya and minolta work and i absolutely love it--keep up the great work!
I’m obsessed with your style, I love how you give a film look to your photos! I shoot canon but you’re making me want to get a Fuji as a second camera for fun
Dude, you finally found your ideal camera rig! Manual focus is tough, I've been playing with the Helios on the XT3 and I take a lot of bad shots. I'm experimenting with a 7" monitor hanging from my neck. Too hard to focus from the rear screen with focus peaking.
Brilliant, gorgeous images, so much character. Fabulous outfits, location, composition and edit. "Trying to do manual focus when I'm going blind and shit" oh yeah, you and me both hahahaha. Love it.
Love vintage lens! Can’t believe they turn out great on fujifilm. I tried some old vintage lens on my canon and haven’t had some on point shots like yours.
I love the Mamiya 645 Sekor C lenses on GFX. I went crazy during covid and bought soooo many from Japan, in excellent condition. Not the same amount of resolution and perfection as modern GF lenses, but so much character and still excellent quality glass. The 120mm f/4 macro is excellent though, I think the best out of all the ones I have in terms of resolution.
Have shot those len's on a 50r for a few years now mostly for wedding portrait work.... Awesome glass.. One thing I have found that helps a me a ton with the focus peaking is put the screen/in a black and white film sim mode... (your shooting raw saw you still have the raw file to work with post) The focus peaking typically blue or red high... seems to pop off the b/w fv better and its more visiable when creating the shots... the peaking color does not get lost in the rest of the color so much using that tool in the toolbox :) Great shots !
I’ve used some old contax (Zeiss) glass on my mirrorless ! Takes a little getting used to, but the results are 🤌🏻 PS I’d love to get that beautiful Fuji 🤙🏻 Keep inspiring 🍻
Cool images, love the look from the vintage glass. I have two I use on my XT-3. One is a Pentax 50mm f1.7, the other is a Canon FD 135mm f3.5. I used the 135 to shoot my nephew's T Ball game. It was fun getting the focus down. I kind of used the zone focus idea and got some really nice shots. I totally laughed when you commented about how after a while you felt like your eyes were shot. I have that same problem. My eyes suck. So, after a while it's sometimes hard to tell when you hit focus. Love this video. The outfits were so cool as well as their colors. She was a really fun model too. I wish more models felt it was ok to smile! Have a great week!
Your processing is great, man, super classy looking! Wish I could process colors half as well as you can. I'll have to work way harder at it from now on! Amazing photos!
Been thinking about this camera for a while. I don't own a "photo" camera, and this seems like a nice option to get the medium format look and feel out of a digital alternative. Love your channel, great work ✌️
i have been painfully trying to decide on a xh2 vs 50sii for about a month now. been looking for something i can take filmic BTS shots on the sets i production design while having something for personal work. i have only shot on film since selling my 5d years ago so getting back into digital feels overwhelming. i have the same mamiya lenses, so i think this video has answered my question :) thank you so much for this!!!!
Glad I found this. I have a large RZ67Pro II system with 1- or more lenses. Do you think I could use them as well? The RZ lenses have the shutter built into them, so that may be an issue.
I have a shoot scheduled later this month to shoot some fashion out on Bonneville Salt Flats. Using the 45/2.8, 80/2.8, and 150/4 Mamiya Sekor C lenses. The 45/2.8 would have been a better choice in my opinion than the 35
Loved the vid! The helios 44-2 58mm F2 will blow your mind with how well it adapts to GFX. Also, Kipon makes a focal reducer for Mamiya 645 glass to RF. I would love to see you do this same vid with the R5C and that full frame-to-medium format focal reducer! Technically the focal reducer on the R5 (.71x) would give you a wider field of view than any of the fuji sensors (.79x).
Man I gotta be honest, focal reducers don’t excite me much. Specially for photos. Would just make it more difficult to focus Prbly. Might get one for my XH2S tho!
@@cammackey I have been working with a custom build that includes a .71x focal reducer and a 50mm f1.4 for my canon R5 for over a year now. It very rarely leaves my camera just because of the amazing 3d pop effect I get from the combo! I am putting together a video to show you when I get everything perfected. It may not be worth it but it’s been fun to tinker with lol and it would be a no brainer in my opinion for the xh2s, I have too much full frame Ef glass to switch and the extra stop of light is super nice!
Would love to see a video of how you deliver your images to clients. Apologize if you've made one already, but Im always curious to see the different ways photographers turn in thier assets.
This is great, thanks for posting! While I don't do portraits, I appreciate and enjoy your documentary style of photography and the looks you create with your portraiture. I'm trying to get some Mamiya and/or Pentax glass for G mount. Lots of things to try on this system!
Love yah, brother. Appreciate your attitude and sharing. Have that same 80 pro leaf shutter 2.8... got it a month or two ago. Using it as a "between" lens... between the GF110 (crazy good) and the GF45 (I'm getting delightful images with it). Absolutely loving the 80 on the GFX.
The amount of prep with the model, outfit, location and composition is what sets you wayyyyyyyyyy further ahead of the artist on yt. 👏🏼🙌🏼
This is the most helpful video on the 50sii so far, especially the in camera focus peaking part. Finally a RUclipsr who can actually shoot.
All your “out of focus” shots have so much character, I think even for clients, unless you are selling an ad campaign for a sunglasses company, the work looks absolutely professional. For fashion editorials all those pictures are more than perfect.
Agreed. Plus it's a simple slider adjustment to wipe out that CA.
The quality of this video, plus the stills... wow. Nice work!

Just ordered a Sekor 80mm 1.9 for my 100s. Can't wait

Love how you did that rack focus at 1:55 - thats a run-n-gun cowboy rack focus move.
Damn... You've got some beautiful photographs! Absolutely pin sharp too.
Great to see another video of a Fuji camera with a vintage lens. I like the look of old lenses.
Ok, Amazing editing, Amazing contents, Super GFX Gears and last but not the least… her Smile! She is Special! Congrats

You’re really making it easier to justify buying into the gfx system. I might have to treat myself before the year ends
Ohh man, I love that your using vintage glass, I have been experimenting with that myself as well, specially after getting into film photography.
Xpro 1 here we go!
Those golden rich colours are so fitting with the work you and the models have put together
Totally love the aesthetic here. Everything. Amazing freckles too.
Damn, the locations, styling... 🤑🥳

Epic! Beautiful shots. I don’t mind the softness. The vintage lens have a nice meatiness to them.
your colors are always so on point man, great work!
This is next level! I need to try this
Awesome. You save the GFX50S II.
Fuji colors are fire ! Love the fuji content
I would love to get my hands on a Fuji X pro 3. Also I like that you push the Fuji system in the real world a bit more then others.
I’ve used some old contax (Zeiss) glass on my mirrorless ! Takes a little getting used to, but the results are 🤌🏻
PS I’d love to get that beautiful Fuji 🤙🏻
Keep inspiring 🍻
Keep that Zeiss glass. It's unmached in terms of character and out of focus rendering.
Great stuff. Would love the Classic Neg presets!
Love me some vintage glass !
Amazing video. Subscribed for how well you captured the process!
wow thats almost every mamiya lens i need to know on gfx, amazing
