I'm always blown away guys swap out pistons in a still-hot engine in the pit lanes using flashlights and simple tools and get back in the races just hours later.
Better know your gaps tolerances and specs doing that. Most people think there's WAY more to it than there is. This ultra skilled science and experience that only special people can possess. Nope. Anybody who 1- has an attention to detail and can 2- use tools and 3- is capable of putting together an adult Lego set, can combine all 3 of those skills and do anything car repair related. Its basically Legos for adults but with REAAAALLY specific instructions that you HAVE to follow or you'll have a short race😂. Do it enough and the experience comes with time knowing what works and what doesn't
@MrJermbob I wouldn't count on that🤣 it could literally be a plastic coolant fitting that costs $2.99 that cracks and dumps your coolant and you warp a head/blow a head gasket. Could be 1 bolt that loosens or a (regularly) a timing belt breaks or the simple tensioner fails causing bent/broken valves and carnage (btdt plenty of times). An injector can gum up and stick open and burn a hole in a piston. There's tons of basic things that can fail and destroy a motor🤣 that's why preemptive maintenance is important
@@notyouraveragegoldenpotato Sure. It will still run on a melted piston though. It takes proper stuff to kill a engine. Not the situations that the original post was about.
I worked at a place that they would put signs on your truck like "I'm gay & I vote" etc...I got them all back great ! FYI. Myratic acid, pool acid, works great on removing the aluminum out of the cylinders if you burn a piston. Just put some on a rag, and wipe it off. WITH A GLOVE ON🤔
Used to use acid on dirt bike jugs, they would transfer metal off the skirt when they would get really hot and stick the piston, muriatic acid won't hurt the liner. any big box store will hook ya up.
@@mattmanyamUse a container like they use to store acid in a chem lab, only take a couple oz.,take it out when your not going to need it, use your head. Just like you don't store chlorine for your pool in the garage like a buddy did and turned his big block in his 70 chevelle in to a rust factory, but he is an engineer, hasn't found his train in years! )
No Adding spit to your finger and touching each header pipe, you can see how fast it's sizzling off and know if a cylinder is firing properly. Basically the same thing as nate was doing with the temp gun but old school. My old man showed me that way and also using a beer dripping a bit on each header pipe

Yall brave with that quick rebuild I would of definitely used regular oil ran it a few and then changed it ext too the good stuff b4 raceing it so whatever material was in the engine from the blow up and from the repair job on the cylinder walls ext would get flushed out more before she got let loose pushing some power threw it lol that's just me I've made the mistake a few times over the years where I was in the same perdictament and rushed it and skipped over the simple steps that would help it be a solid running engine like not flushing the engine out after a failure and of course material left in the engine and components ruined the hopes of a bounce back quick

You should find a local racer and help in the pit. It's so much fun. If you don't turn wrenches there's plenty of other things to do.
