    I first came and settled in SF in 1983. A very cosmopolitan, sophisticated, accepting, festive, beautiful, romantic city. I retired in 2022. The city changed, loss its soul. All the places we used to frequent changed. The quality of life drastically went downhill. Nowadays I avoid going to the city. All I have are memories of that great city.

    • @austinklar

      City is still great-it has certainly changed no doubt. And some once great areas are great no longer unfortunately.

    • @oyajiblues

      bllllbbbb…. me blowing a raspberry. Young people certainly will see it differently. It has changed to accommodate the new style of young people. They don’t want to eat in old fuddy duddy restaurants serving butter laden old school food and hang out in the “wash bag”. They want trendy upscale foodie places and may go to North Beach but rarely if ever would go to the Wharf. I understand it is sad for you, but hey you are using a computer not a pad and pen… things change. However i will agree that many of the “new” young people are not all respectful to the City…. some very selfish self centered rich kids have definitely moved in.

      I think what we're seeing is the city going through an especially bad cycle of renewal. If you look back over the city's history, you'll find these periods of "decline." Sometimes they are true decline, sometimes it's just a pause. But the city will recover. I can't say when or how or how it will "feel" when it emerges again. But it will.

    • @oyajiblues
      @oyajiblues 25 дней назад

      @@briancase6180 this is a really good point. I am sure the Wharf will be jammed with Condos in a year or two. THis City never falls, but it does have ups and downs. I mean in reality we just came out of a massive boom. Now the world is different. Many large corporations do not need huge office spaces. SO downtown will need to adapt somehow. I am sure most of those spaces can be rehabbed into great apartments. But, so many videos portray the City has gone to the wolves…. and it is just B.S. Most of the City is thriving. The Mission for sure…. Jammed…

      @@oyajibluesI couldn't agree with you more, as a native San Franciscan born and raised, the city has become a magnet for high tech workers who bring with them their own culture, and sense of self importance, have little regard for the natives that has been here for generations, rarely do they take their eyes off their cell phone screens and say hello to anyone, that would be too much of a inconvenience, because they have taken over just about every quarter of our city and changed the culture of San Francisco to their liking, the rest of us will suffer, from the arrogance of rude in a hurry youngsters who are well versed in their rights to be a jerk. and we accept them, because we know they are the future of our city... GOD help us.

I lived on Nob Hill on Pine and Taylor amazing breathtaking views Grace Cathedral unbelievable architecture I could see the entire city from my dorm room. Then i moved to Fillmore/Japan Town amazing neighborhood world class dinning, i lived on Steiner Across from a ballpark/soccer fields Then i moved to the Tenderloin on Hyde and O'Farrell so fast and exciting being in the middle of downtown SF i lived there way back when the Giants won the World Series I loved to Ride my bicycle all over the city best transportation possible in SF. Dolores Park was my summer spot. I left in 2016 and it seems like such a different city now. Im truly blessed i was able to experience living in San Francisco.

    I was born in L.A., but I've lived in S.F. all of my life. I recently moved to L.A. for 1 1/2 years, but cam back to S.F. L.A. kicked my azz! And upon returning, so much had changed, in a blink! I came back to S.F. in total shock! Everything has changed. I do miss the sun, smell of fresh fruit and beautiful flowers, in L.A., but I don't miss the crazy driver's. They'll hit your car and keep driving. I do appreciate drinking the water in S.F. The water in L.A. tasted really bad. Especially, in Paramount, CA. And it's SO hot!
    I do plan on visiting L.A., the next time, I go back, just never relocating there. Changing county's messed me up, too, in regards to my medical coverage, DMV, and mail. I also didn't like how far L.A.'s downtown area was. Downtown S.F. is just a hop and a skip away. However, I did enjoy driving on those "ONE" type of streets, that takes you from county to county. Good times! Good times!
    P.S. I once caught a side view of a bearded 'Ben Affleck' in Santa Monica. He was in that BIG new black truck JLo bought him for xmas. I wanted to honk, but he looked SO calm and chilled, so I kept driving.

    #5... I would disagree with you for the point you made about traveling outside the bay area. You REALLY have to plan your day around traveling around the bay on public transit. A lot of places that would only take a half hour with a car takes almost 2 with public transit

    • @austinklar

    #6.... The muni bus line is actually not too bad. It does have a subway system too... not just the bus system. It connects the city quite nicely. But also with my disagreement on point #5, it will take you some time to get from Point A to Point B

    I miss the downtown vibe sooo much. I used to attend the art institute in the civic center. My cousin worked at the west field mall and our grandparents lived in Nob Hill. I did not live in the city. I lived in America Canyon and worked in Napa on the weekends. But commuting to SF for school, visiting friends and family, and the hustle of hanging out downtown… even grabbing coffee and watching people. I miss that. It’s not the same. I was just there this past summer, and it feels different. I live in Boston now, and the bustle energy here is similar to what SF used to be like in the 2010s. I plan on returning to the Bay, someday, your videos help instill hope in my heart. Boston is lovely and super safe compared to what I’m used to growing up in the Bay, but SF is definitely better as far as beauty, culture, food, and character. 😅

    It astounds me how some people move to SF without ever researching the most _basic_ stuff, like weather. FFS, you have all that info at your fingertips. To them I'd say, if you'd rather complain that summers aren't as sweltering like they are in, say, Kansas or Fresno, but you failed to notice SF's lovely warm spells in September & October, then maybe you're too stupid to live here.

      As he said it depends entirely on the neighborhood. Tenderloin, market, Soma are the main crime areas people know about and are mostly quality of life crimes like homeless, drugs, prostitution. Bipping is very common in tourist hoods like North Beach and Pier 39. Violent crime is very uncommon but mostly occurs in the South East in hunters point and Bayview area and sometimes tenderloin where drugs are at their worst. Even with recent crime spikes it's still safer than in the 90's

    • @mark99k
      @mark99k 21 день назад +2

      @@someguy1559 Agree. I've lived in SF since the 1970s, and even some bus lines that were risky then felt much safer after 2000. But neighborhoods vary & always have. It annoys me when tourists (or internet editorialists) visit SF, land in Union Square, walk only downhill, arrive at the TL, and stupidly conclude that the entire city is overrun by druggies and/or covered in feces. Some people seem predisposed to rag on SF because they were expecting it to look & feel like Beverly Hills.

    Protests, didn't mention that one, louder and more disrupting. try working all day and running into a protest or sometimes several protests in one day. Shop lifting, maybe you shop somewhere better than convivence stores, still happens several times an hour, Unfair parking tickets, poor parking, mental health breakdowns on the street, empty streets like a ghost town and a mayor who gives herself a self-congratulatory happy dance at her state of the city speech (just a month ago). The old guard politicians like Willie Brown, Newsom, Pelosi and the wealthy families (Gettys, the Pritzkers and the Fishers and many more) that influence California don't want change in terms of how politics work and are actually now functioning with more secrecy...If you don't have much money it's a miserable place to be, just an awful sinking feeling of decay...It wont get better because the regional news sucks and is politically owned, it's so bad I watch other cities evening news on my roku because the bay area news sucks so bad, actually had infomercials that looked like the news during the evening news (KPIX/CBS channel 5). No shame at all...summer of 2023 SF only had only few days with temperatures above 70 degrees, can be unusually cool for long periods of time.
