- After more than a decade, Ford redesigns the Escape to be much more stylish and refined. A Ford Escape V6 is no longer available, but the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine has plenty of power. Read our blog post for more information: bit.ly/JrN0rg
Yes, when they are done testing, they sell the cars at a substantial discount, usually to a member of their staff or their relative.
I think it looks much better than the old one.
This model has been on sale for a few years in the European market. All the bugs have probably been worked out. The only major additions for the Escape would be the kick to open, and MFT which you aren't going to find in Europe.
Anyone else think this looks sort of like a cross between a Mazda CX-7 and a Saturn Outlook? I'm not saying it looks bad; actually, I think it's a huge improvement and looks great! Good job Ford!
I'm liking the styling on it and the 2013 fusion. The latter reminds me of the front end of an aston martin. That touch screen looks a bit weird though. It should follow the contour of the dash instead of being inset like that. Overall I would buy one though. Ford is doing a bang up job in trying to reinvent themselves.
Careful optioning this -- that is a top of a line Titanium edition. If you fully load it, price will be around $34k+. Up towards VW Tiguan and the larger Ford Edge levels.
I bought one and just love this SUV I have the 2.0 turboboost with a tow package and I can tell you it has more power than the 3.0 that was in my Taurus ,I have no issues with this car, I did here that the models with the 1.6 liter engines are being recalled for over heating problems from what I have read it is mostly a computer problem but the 2.0 whooooooo!
It has an AWD system that you can add. Just as capable as the Subaru provided it has enough ground clearance.
They're TRYING to compete with the RAV4 and the CR-V that have great MPG for both city and hwy miles. I think they're doing a decent job of competing with these 2 fuel efficient SUV's. There are some things I'd change but they are putting forth and effort which I appreciate.
Nice, it look like an over grown escort, same front end, engine, dash, and rear lights.
the escort looks good so as this thing :)
might make me ESCAPE from the Ford showroom
0-60 with EcoBoost 2.0 Liter: 6.8 seconds. VW Tiguan 2.0 Liter TSI 0-60 7.5 seconds. Even if the fully loaded model comes around $35,000, the Escape will win over in terms of advanced features. At least all Escape models will achieve at least 20MPG in the city.
I like the rear of the old one better. I know it looks boring but I think it looks good.
Right on the window sticker 18p $495. 536 trailer towing $395.00
It's actually roomier than previous generation Escape
I think that the trend towards quieter models, even plebeian ones, is a wise move. A lower stress driving experience should not be something reserved only for the affluent. There are plenty of other ways to get money out of them without depriving the masses of a safe and quality automotive experience.
it is fwd, all suv's on this category are fwd, with the exception of the subaru forester which is standard awd.
this is going to number 1 in the SUV segment
Looking forward to it, its small so what, im small too! When the CRV came out in this video, from that angle, the alien head scare the shit out of me.
Question, does Consumer Reports sell the cars that they buy to do there testing? I know it may seem like an obvious question but didn't want to assume.
It has a similar size to a Tucson or CR-V. Actually you can tell it is not that big just by looking the guy in the video is taller than the car.
You can get either fwd or awd.
Firm seats?!?! Try boards wrapped in a blanket. The one I ordered I payed extra for the power tail gate. The toe trick didn't work because I had orderd the towing package. So why charge extra for something that doesn't work? The vents in the front were fixed and didn't adjust as I had read. There were numerous things that I had read about the vehicle that that was not fufilled. One would have thought that Consumer reports would have caught these flaws.
I like the new shape, different strokes I guess.
That looks great
Beware - the inside aft lowering gate back plastic shroud handle tends to brake. from the hatchback door. Overheating issues...
for more speed / quicker acceleration? some people need a suv but dont want to deal with a i-4
It has a feature that ensures this will not happen. The radar will only recognize the L-shape created by the meeting of the foot and leg.
In case anyone doesn't know, this is the SAME 2.0 engine used in the Range Rover Evoque! I'd rather buy this at a 50% savings!!!
i can see something like a cat or small animal brushing up against the back of the car and opening the tailgate accidentally
The recessed touch screen with the buttons in the way looks like a bad idea.
I am not sure you paid for that. While it is included if you purchase certain packages, it is deleted if you select the option of the Class II towing. Also, most what you read is often inaccurate unless it is from the source. If Ford Motor Company mentioned something that was not accurate on their website, that could be considered a misrepresentation. Your ideas of a flaw are relative to your expectations which may or may not be inflated.
looks good ....shame about the screen.thanks.
i think consumerreports actually liked a vehicle O_O
i totally agree
I went for training on this vehicle. The pedals are positioned so awkwardly that if you don't drive with a straight foot you will hit the break pedal when releasing the gas. It's horrible and will cause accidents.
me too, they just don't want people fixing they're own cars. just another annoyance to those repairing their own. they don't reduce engine noise or anything, just add weight and bulkiness
Looks pretty damn good and im not an american car buyer. As long as they keep the price down and dont make you pay for features that should be standard then it will be a hit. Lets be honest. The venza is average priced but at that price its bare bones no features. The crv is good but boring. The tucson is cheap but has a really cheap interior and the well then theirs the rest.
it reminds me of a sorento and a sportage they arent that similar but to me the excape has similarities to both vehicles
The new Escape is so nice... but much smaller than the outgoing Escape.
You're right but you've to consider almost every automaker is switching to this basic idea. Real SUVs are dying, while CUVs are all over the place. This idea has proven successful for Ford, they've been selling more Explorers since the new generation came out (compared to previous generation) and Escape has always been a CUV, it just had a truck-like exterior. It's not Ford's fault, it's people's choice.
I just hope Expedition to not be axed, they need at least one RWD based SUV.
Yes, but the chassis remained the same. This is entirely new.
RR borrowed Ford's engine and chassis for the Evoque. God knows what else they've shared considering they're partners. Good news in all of this it is a Ford engine so it won't be breaking down!
There is an AWD option.
Only in price could it compete...
I would not want to have but would much rather have a X3, XC60, Q5, RAV4, Qashqaieven, Vitara, Forester (anyday), CX-5 (when it comes out) or even a (previous generation) CRV.
...come to think of it, I'd even rather have a KIA Sportage.
Don't you mean the Focus?
actually looks exactly like a Subaru!
you are right
why?
It looks alot alike the European Ford Kuga
i like it i prob wouldnt buy one just because id rather have a fusion/taurus or a flex for the price.
The front looks like a Porsche Cayenne, but the back looks like a Hyundai Tucson, Overall it reminds me of the CR-V. *is confuse*
why why would you ever want a v6 in a compact suv?
It's my favour small suv.
The Escape was never a truck, in the body on frame sense. It was always unibody, but looked like a truck.
then buy an explorer or expedition
i think that a i-4 is great for a little suc like this one
This would have to be better than my father's 2006 Escape. It rides harsh, is loud in engine, road, and wind noise, it's slow, and not really that fuel efficient. I do NOT want another one.
acceleration/towing.
You just need to take a small step back, just like with any boot duh!
Just went to ford.com >2013 Escape> Talks about having active grill shutters in first section.
Dont want to deal with a 4-cyl.??? Whats so bad about 4-cylinders?
The brake pedal/gas pedal are an accident waiting to happen. The most awkward positioning I have ever seen on any car!
I love Ford, but the back looks just like a Veracruz.
While the new platform, engines and transmissions are all worthy upgrades, the car-like styling inside and out ruins the new Escape for me. I know it's a crossover and not a true SUV, but it should still look the part.
My 1.6L Escape has had nonstop overheating issues post recall fix.
Watch my videos below.
2013 Ford Escape 1.6L overheating Sept 2013 Santa Cruz, CA
2013 Ford Escape 1.6L overheating Apr 2013 San Juis Obispo, CA
Let's face it, SYNC 1 with nav is better than sync with myfordtouch
You can't base everything on looks. The interior quality is cheap. Knock on the plastics inside and hear the hollowness and cheapness. The center console eliminates a lot of side to side room in the front making it cramped, for a crossover/SUV, which should at least offer you some more room, not less room than a passenger car.
I sure wish the automakers would stop using that damned shiny black trip plastic!
The back looks like a Hyundai
How on God's Earth is this a SMALL SUV?
Yup, The Back Is A Replica To The Sportage !
Hope thats not fwd
I don't see how they've ruined any car. The focus is a good looking small car, what's the big deal that they look similar? It's called brand distinction. Ford will never make the Mustang look like a Taurus; the Mustang is an iconic model that will always retain the same basic styling. And as far as them selling their models to government fleets such as police forces, they've already made police versions of the Taurus and Explorer that they plan on selling to municipalities within the year.
I think that ford made a mistake with this redesign, the old one was so popular that it wasn't funny, and it does look like a suv version of the focus. Not a fan.
Went to look at a new Escape. Colour choice not good and they pulled a MB/BMW and charge extra for some colours. The dealer must have had 50 in stock...49 with black interior. Some were black exterior too...a sea of black. Must have an Amish fellow that does all the ordering for inventory. That silver skid plate at the rear stands out like a sore thumb
Front headlights look too much like the audi haedlights poor audi:(
id rather have a cx-5
This guy belongs on an antique show...soooo drabbbbb.
And the foot sensor trunk gadget? You better run out of the way before it crunches you. Not the best execution.
no it looks more like a ford focus
This thing is tiny compared to other SUVs on the road in the US, compared to a Ford Excursion, Ford Expedition, or even a Ford Explorer, there are cars bigger than this thing.
the cx 5 is extremely underpowered, and i'm jut a middle aged conservative female driver. i hope the front seats are cmnfy in this car - i need a fuel eff car with cargo space, decent acceleration and power/heated seats under $30. haven't found it yet. prius v: same downfall as the cx-5; doesn't accelerate & loses oomph with the slightest hill. hope the mpg hwy is 35+.
this new ford escape looks like kia design or hyundai design thumbs up if you agree or like thanks
I like my 2003 Ford Escape better :)
Looks too much like the new tucson.
I don't like large SUV's not only are they gas guzzlers but they're not my style.
looks too much like the rav 4
I hate hate hate plastic engine covers.
wow very favorable first look by cr
sigh...Ford Escape aka Ford Kuga....thats so not a complete re-design (maybe for North America)....this car's been around for years, lol....America, always getting the European hand-me-downs
looks like a cheap Hyundai
would rather get the Mazda CX5
Man is that thing ugly. Looks like a jecked-up Focus. Ford really dropped the ball on this one. I think you'll see a rather quick redesign soon.
It looks nothing alike to Hyundai or Kia.
They're really good at ruining cars. Lets take a great selling small SUV and make it look like the focus! It worked when we turned the explorer into the new edge! Whats next will the mustang look to bulgy and muscular? lets make it look like the tarus and we can put a turbo charged 2 cylinder in it?!!??!! IMO theyre going to run ford into the ground and they already lost a ton of money in gov contracts with the discontinuation of the vic. But i guess times are changing.. smh
Too similar to Hyundai/Kia designs...
FORD= fix- on- remain -date...
yeah but Honda CRV looks like it has an ugly hunchback.
Ugly back!
