This is based in1940s Undivided India..It shows the story of 2 families and how their relationship got destroyed because of Partition and creation of Pakistan...This teaser shows the various princely states and region of Undivided India.Here the families which once loved one another turned into enemies #Kalank
At 9:15 I think they all in the background had become *Rama* and the day is Dussehra coz you can see the 10 headed demon, *Ravana* when they both walk towards each other and lots of fired arrows flying towards it. This happens on every Dussehra when a person becomes Rama and fires on the big puppet of Ravana as we have continued tradition from Ramayana.
I think it depicts that after fighting all the problems and situations they are finally together. In Ramayana, lord ram had to fight to get her wife Sita back from Ravana (the ten-headed statue you talk about) and this scene is the same as that of after killing Ravana. Here in the movie the Ravana burning in the background signifies burning of the evil that they fought and are meeting each other after so much.. that is why in IMDB, it said ETERNAL LOVE!

It's Rama, not Krishna, it's a pity that we Indians don't recognize our own ancient history and culture and then think it's cool to not one about it and joke.
All those people in background are in-acting Ramayan, the depiction as art form is called Ram Leela. The Giant statue on fire is part of the whole celebration called Dushera where Ravan statue is burnt after RamLeela as a sign of victory of good over evil.
I see a lot of inspiration from Bahubali, Devdas and Bajirao/padmavat. It's a good tribute. Madhuri and Sanjay coming together after decades is definitely the usp of this movie.

During that time also some people came from like regal sophisticated backgrounds (looking at the Grand table he was sitting in), Kings and royal families or people who hung out in those circles, they were pretty well groomed so maybe the hair cut was trying to reflect.

Remake of Devdas with a touch of Bahubali... didn't like it... specifically the time... 1945 just 2years before independence and after world shattering WW2... should have changed the timing to make it atleast a little believable
