According to interviews they spent 3 million buying the place, 40 million on renovations, and then decided to pay their staff $30 an hour which is higher than the median wage for all of Colorado and they dont use tipping for the service. Suddenly the $40 tickets seems more reasonable.
So fucking cool. They were the only people on this planet and went for it. Like God. They spent so much they probably never going to see a dime from it but to say you had the means and did it. Priceless.
My mom worked there in the 80’s as a damsel in distress that would be pushed off the cliff into the water by a gorilla. She also acted in the commercials. Casa Bonita was great as a kid. Used to be a JC Penneys in the 60s. My school in wyoming took us kids to CB in the early 80s. So Matt and Trey grew up around where I lived as a small kid, and one of my childhood acquaintances actually went to school with Matt. If I hadn't moved away I might've even met them myself. Of note from someone born and raised in the Denver area: the chef they hired is actually very well respected in the CO food scene. Before Matt and Trey, the system was basically a cafeteria line and the food was atrocious. The arcade was there in the original incarnation. In fact, one of my most distinct memories of the place is that Big Bertha game.
as a teen, i was one of those guys that guided you from the cafeteria line. one weekend, there was 2, yes TWO, full kid's soccer team that just showed up. the grownups wanted to seat all the kids in one section. it was busy AF and the seaters couldn't find an open section big enough to accomodate them, so the kids had to all wait with their heavy food trays on that ramp that led up to the seaters. after like 30min of waiting, the grownups said, "drop your plates, we're going somewhere else." all the kids left their plates on the floor and they all left. what a shitshow that was.

When I saw the Casa Bonita South Park Episode as a kid binging the entire series, I not only know what as exactly what Cartman would do for it, I even understood the hype he would have had being all the way in the mountains. Thats quite a drive out, up to a few hours depending on traffic. Me and my family haven't visited since the renovation, and I have a lot of good memories of the place, including getting seperated from my father and cousin while we watched the waterfall play, and the staff finding me and taking me to the back rooms while they found them. I’m really excited to finally see it again, last time I went was my 16th birthday and the food poisoning after was the most memorable part.
As a Coloradan, it’s so cool to see others experience this for the first time. This has been a staple of my childhood and is just 20 minutes down the row.
I was shocked to find out it was a real place. I saw it on that episode of South Park and assumed it was made up, because what restaurant has cliff divers? I don't think I would gaslight my friend into a bunker so I could go, but it makes a lot of sense that Cartman did.
I glad you were able to experience it. I tried to go for my birthday back in July. But with their employee strike and not hearing back after trying to make a reservation at the restaurant with no response. I had no choice to cancel my trip as that was our main reason for going. maybe this year will be more fruitful.
I was a pre-teen when my father was stationed at Lowrey AFB in Denver from '76 - '78. We went to CB a few times for the fun... the food was substandard. I'm now in my late 50s, and I am again looking forward to making my way back. This time, I'm hoping the food is much better. Thanks, Matt and Trey.
I loved Casa Bonita as a kid ans we used to go at least once a year. After not being there for almost a decade, I finally revisited in 2015 and I was overwhelmed with nostalgia. Now it has once again almost been a decade since my last visit and I cannot wait to see it after all these renovations!
I was lucky enough to grow up going to casa Bonita and I recently went to casa Bonita with my family for the first time in like 15 years. Matt and Trey nailed it. I’m glad you got a chance to go!
This was a great video.. as a south park fan and cook for most my life, been definitely contemplating a trip from Canada before I'd even seen this video, and even more so now (what's a 24 hour drive really)
I stopped by Casa Bonita a few weeks before they started to let people in to take a picture of the place about to open. Hopefully with Casa Bonita opening it brings some life back to that area. The area around Casa Bonita is pretty abandoned and dillapitated with a lot of closed businesses.
Some time ago a Studio ghibli theme park was opened too. And this sort of thing always reminds me of the beginning of Spirited Away, where the father mistakes the kami village for an abandoned theme park. They should open a 1950's style drive-in theater nearby, and host Vtuber events on the big projector like Inugami Korone and Muyu Muu and Ironmouse.
I grew up and live in Northern Colorado, and I, for some reason, have never been to Casa Bonita until February of 2024. Of course I've always known about it, even before hearing the South Park Creators bought it and restored it. When I went, I was expecting it to be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be *that* good. It was just pure, Mexican, tropical, kid-like fun, and I even got to sit right next to the Cartman table. It was truly and experience and one that I was sad that my parents didn't take me to experience when I was younger, but I was so glad I was able to experience it after it was restored, because it was incredible.
I remember going there every time the family went on a ski trip,, sort of like old local amusement parks, all just memories now but this place now revived, many thanks gentlemen✊🏼💪🏼
I have fond memories of Casa Bonita as a kid. Though the food wasn't memorable, the experience was always fun. And just by the looks of the video, I'm excited to go to this much improved Casa Bonita.
Do you know the deep seeded memory you just awaked when you showed big Bertha! I have purposely blocked out that nightmare game for 25 years 😅 But yes Casa Bonita is a treasure
Been there 5 times ranging as a kid to an adult. Waiting for my tickets for about 8 months, party of 12 is excessive BUT will be an awesome experience to return when they give the green light. Thanks for the video ❤
We used to have a Casa Bonita here in Arkansas when I was growing up, it was later changed to Casa Viva, but I loved it so much as a kid. Im hoping I can save the money to make a trip to Denver in the next couple of years to see this place.
We didn’t have tickets but my kids made up a song like Carmen’s and I recorded. 😂 singing and dancing around the water fall . Security just look at us! But we all said one day we all go! Congrats on going bro 😎
I first went back in '88 when I was stationed at Lowry AFB with a bunch of friends and had a blast, I have been wanting to go back, and was stoked to see Matt and Trey restore it, one day Ill make the trek back to Denver to relive my teen years.
Not just Denver, but also all of the other locations that used to exist too, including Tulsa and Little Rock. I can only hope and pray that they open more locations around America so that I don't have to travel as far, so that others can experience it or re-experience it, and so they can gain even more money. Matt and Trey are 2 of very few people in this world who actually deserve all that money!!! Casa Bonita was LITTERALLY the BEST restaurant/ entertainment center to ever exist!!! It was truly magical!!! Plus, the small, walk-thru event area they had changed with every season or holiday! The areas were great, the arcade was great, kids shows were great, waterfall was great, and just walking thru the cave was magical! I never got a chance to sitdown and eat in the cave, but always wanted to! Plus, now that they South Park'd it up, that makes it even better! $30 for a magical lunch? $40 for the best, most magical dinner you will ever have? Damn, that's fairly cheap!!! AHEM, HOW DARE YOU CALL MANBEARPIG A GORILLA!!! He's only 1/3 Gorilla!!! Have you not seen the South Park episode or played the game?!?!?!
I went to Casa Bonita a couple months ago and it was so much fun, especially seeing the cliff divers. I honestly loved it, it was so much fun, I even got a drawing of me and my friend. 10/10 experience
My daughter lives in Colorado Springs alittle bit south of Denver but her mom knowing how much I love that show has reservations for us for my visit in November ❤ bucket list item crossed off then❤
I was on a skateboard trip in denver in 08 and one of the guys i was driving with said you remember that south park episode with casa bonita, its right there. So i saw the pink castle but didnt go in, wish i had.
If there was a casa bonita around me, and i had a family with kids, it'd be an obvious go to option. Anybody who got to grow up with a disney land-like restaurant is lucky. The rest of us got applebees! XD
I went to Casa Bonita in 2019 for the first time. It looks like quite a bit has changed because as far as I'm aware there was no purchasing tickets beforehand. My friends and I were in Denver for an anime convention and they had planned out a couple places they wanted to go while we were there, so it was sprung on me last minute. Super enjoyed it though and it's intresting to see what has changed from your video. Definitely want to make a trip back someday!

I grew up in the Denver area and went here with all my frinds on the last day of 5th grade. So magical. So much fun. It's unfathomable that the food is actually good now so I've gotta check that out haha
There was a casa bonitas in Tulsa, OK or something like that and my parents took me and my brother on vacation. The arcade was fun, that big Bertha arcade game was one of the games they had at the Tulsa location. Unfortunately, they shut it down I forget when and they tore it down.
I went to Casa Bonita more than a dozen times I'm sure - as a kid, in college with friends from out of town, and even as a young adult with my nephews. As a kid it was always a magical experience. Even as an adult it was fun (except for the food) but the restaurant always felt a bit empty. Whole sections of seating would be closed, puppet shows were rare, the theater was never used, etc. Now I just went last night with my own kids (5 and 2), and I've got to say it's the best experience I've ever had there. Every little nook and cranny is filled with something special. It feels like this is always the way it was supposed to be, but hasn't been since the 70's or 80's. Absolutely worth the price! And yes the food is good now.
In the older Casa Bonita, instead of the cartman statue, they had put up south park plushes hidden around the restaurant. It was adorable

3:45 I noticed Mr and Mrs Tenorman chilli is not on the menu.
You know, everyone has problems, it doesn't mean you have to be a little crybaby about it.
Gotta love two guys who support their hometown. Sounds like it's a hit with the waitlist. I would be very tempted to jump in the lagoon like Cartman.
I glad you were able to experience it. I tried to go for my birthday back in July. But with their employee strike and not hearing back after trying to make a reservation at the restaurant with no response. I had no choice to cancel my trip as that was our main reason for going. maybe this year will be more fruitful.
6:03 I'm sorry but isn't that Manbearpig?
He’s not a true fan
It’s actually the son of Manbearpig, I can’t remember his name.
Yes

He not a fan.
I have a feeling all these Paramount specials are paying off this building to this day! 😂
I stopped by Casa Bonita a few weeks before they started to let people in to take a picture of the place about to open.
Hopefully with Casa Bonita opening it brings some life back to that area. The area around Casa Bonita is pretty abandoned and dillapitated with a lot of closed businesses.
And now itll revitalize as south park fans mecca lmao
Some time ago a Studio ghibli theme park was opened too. And this sort of thing always reminds me of the beginning of Spirited Away, where the father mistakes the kami village for an abandoned theme park.
They should open a 1950's style drive-in theater nearby, and host Vtuber events on the big projector like Inugami Korone and Muyu Muu and Ironmouse.
I’m convinced! I wanna fly out to Denver to see this!!
I have purposely blocked out that nightmare game for 25 years 😅
But yes Casa Bonita is a treasure
Glad you could come! Hope your visit to lakewood was bum & crazies free, especially the ones down east colfax to straight through Denver!
JOHNNY BONITA
I dont get the joke but to me he’s more like a Charly Bonita 😂 he looks like Manson way too much 😂😂😂
Great video! I'll know I'll never be able to go so was cool seeing it, cheers!
Been there 5 times ranging as a kid to an adult. Waiting for my tickets for about 8 months, party of 12 is excessive BUT will be an awesome experience to return when they give the green light. Thanks for the video ❤
The Denver TSA took a snow globe from my son too!
They had to save us from snow globe related terrorism. Think of the havoc a snowstorm would cause inside of a plane!
We used to have a Casa Bonita here in Arkansas when I was growing up, it was later changed to Casa Viva, but I loved it so much as a kid. Im hoping I can save the money to make a trip to Denver in the next couple of years to see this place.
I love in depth reviews, and this fit the bill for sure.
I like how they could have just turned the whole thing into a south park thing. they didn't. and kept the casa bonita vibe real and true
Excellent video. I shall subscribe. Your theme song is amazing. 🎉
I use to go to Casa Bonita when I was a kid man is it nostalgic to see, I still have a core memory there…
We didn’t have tickets but my kids made up a song like Carmen’s and I recorded.
My daughter lives in Colorado Springs alittle bit south of Denver but her mom knowing how much I love that show has reservations for us for my visit in November ❤ bucket list item crossed off then❤
"There is a ton of integrity in that approach."
You mean Tegrity.
I loved this place when I was a kid. Magical and I'm so happy they kept it alive.
This, South Park, the Denver Broncos, and Forza Horizon 1 are my best impressions of Colorado as a New Englander.
I can see how it might be kind of magical, especially as a kid, and coming in from frigid Colorado into this little world
I was on a skateboard trip in denver in 08 and one of the guys i was driving with said you remember that south park episode with casa bonita, its right there.
Ive been on the waitlist for SO LONG 😭
Went from being surprise its real to unlocking the memory of going there 12+ years ago.
I am from Colorado and grew in on Colfax. Casa Bonita is magical I knew the old GM before South Park. If you ever have a chance to go, do it you will love it!
looks like so much fun!! it’s awesome that matt & trey brought this place back to life 😊
This is exactly the video ive been waiting for 👌
As a former server, they should have little table flags at every restaurant.
Now speedrun Casa Bonita
I saw this in my recommended videos and it was perfect timing, cause I'm going there in like 1-2 weeks!
update: i went there like 2 weeks ago and it wad awesome, but our waiter said they round up to the nearest dollar
Cheers to you and your pals, Ser 2Cellos!
Fantastic overview review! Definitely would love to visit one day.
Cool video, dude.
Love your stuff.
Matt and Trey are genuinely amazing, i may have never been to Colorado but i am a big fan of South Park, their other work and am grateful for them saving a historic landmark!
I grew up in the Denver area and went here with all my frinds on the last day of 5th grade. So magical. So much fun. It's unfathomable that the food is actually good now so I've gotta check that out haha
I love that I live in Denver, put my name on the waiting list a number of time and still got 0 invite lol.
40$ is actually a pretty damn good price.
Added to my bucket list !
I really like to go to Colorado for this
There was a casa bonitas in Tulsa, OK or something like that and my parents took me and my brother on vacation. The arcade was fun, that big Bertha arcade game was one of the games they had at the Tulsa location.
Unfortunately, they shut it down I forget when and they tore it down.
Visiting casa bonita in now on my bucket list right before paragliding and right after swimming with sharks
I've been to casa Bonita, and I will say it's one of my favorite restaurants to go to.
Love how the creators of south park saved the resturant because of how popular it was in the show and game
It was saved because it was special in there hearts and childhood, not cause of popularity.
Travel tip. You can send stuff home in the mail.
That TSA agent just wanted that really cool snow globe
As a south park fan i definitely feel the need to go there it seems really fun
The fact that your drop back light is pink to match the Casa Bonita vibe is a funny
Bro imagine being a Cici’s Pizza in the same plaza as CASA BONITA 2:03 😂😂
ah hell naw not cici's pizza 😭
@@Mikko-Maggie-Moreaye aye don’t diss on cici’s pizza
