Now ofc we talk about an old game with old house design, these are build by Maxis devs, unlike on Sims 4 where some lots builded by content creators. Its kinda good to look at how Sims 2 houses built diffrendly in those times. May not look pretty, but this neighbourhood does have a fun lore, if not as huge as Pleasantview, but a decent one to play on.
Desiderata Valley is actually my favorite map to play 😭 the map of residential lots and shapes of the houses sort of reminding me with common things in villages of some islands in Indonesia. So it feels like... Desiderata Valley is totally made for me.
I use Desiderata as my personal genetics playground lol. It's so ugly and uninspiring that I feel free to do whatever I want. I don't even have any attachments to the sims there, so I don't even get sad when they die (the thing that keeps me from ever suceeding at legacy challenges)

Yes, I’ve often described Desiderata Valley as having some of “the ugliest houses in all Simdom”. But they are all salvageable with a little work. I agree that I think this was deliberate on Maxis part to have is spend time renovating and exploring Build mode.
My theory why Desiderata Valley's lots are lackluster is because the developers were busy making The Sims 3 at that time. BTW have you checked the neighborhoods and lots in The Sims Life/Pet Stories? They are pretty good IMO
I want to make this neighbourhood interesting BADLY, so I was checking all the lots too a couple of months ago, and I also was horrified by the roofs. I'd give the Mole house a strong 8/10 tho. It's supposed to be a little bit weird and office-looking.
Make it a subhood for a main hood and have fun with the chaos of Don wooing ladies or Nervous Subject stealing their newspapers lmao I made it a subhood along with Four Corners(Life Stories) hood for main Strangetown and it's rather fun
Desiderata may not be perfect I still have fun playing this town once in a while! It's always fun watching you play with the different families/towns and giving them the fun story lines the deserver! I can't wait for you to play with Veronaville and all the drama that town has ❤
I think the Architecture in the sims 2 speaking in general, was really ugly but of course it was because back then games were not supposed to be stylish, aesthetic pleasing and focused on that type of building gameplays that it's nowadays. The sims 4 is a great improvement of this type of gameplay so at least the sims 4 can say that.
Oh, I remember that place for beach lots. This map is great for a small and cozy resort town. Desiderata Valley really feels a bit lazy and boring at first. On the other hand, it is great for those who enjoy rebuilding and improving maxis neighbourhoods
One of my hobbies is shooting hoops, so I can’t stand it when the sims do those underhand throws. Somehow, it’s even more annoying when they actually make the basket.

I think the lots in desiderata valley wouldn't have been THAT bad if: they didn't have the steep roofs and the kinda odd layouts in the houses. at least some of the houses do have nice backyards with lots of trees and plants everywhere, so that's one good thing about the houses in desiderata valley.

CrazyMarq, I agreed with most of your choices, but I do like the cute hobby room in the Joques house and the ballet room in the Bell house. Why is all the furniture along the walls in the Mole house? Weird! This neighborhood always makes me want to redo things. Also, the last lot, Frippery Frocks has a grill INSIDE! Do they want our Simmies to burn up? Wow!

I never really played Desiderata Valley rotationally, but I did always bring John Mole and Natasha Una together. In my last game before I had to uninstall the sims, John and Natasha got married and lived together in her house. They had twins, Lucia and Caleb. Natasha was a stay at home mom, but also a freelance artist and John became a spacial agent (if i remembercorrectly). I made sure they always spend quality time with the kids and they always had dinner together as a family. After they'd put the kids to bed John and Natasha would always spend some alone time in the living room on the sofa 😉
Since every EP was produced with only base game stuff first, maybe producers forgot about roof cheat /roof adjuster (idk with which ep was it included as build mode feature) - so thats why roofs seem tall & ugly Similar thing is with Apartment Life - Belladona Cove Magical World castles - castles feature medium octagonal roofs, and only that type is avilable in build mode - cuz full access to octagonal roofs required Open For Business ep

I think Free Time is a useless pack sorry 😂 it is just boring and I never use the secret lots. The NPCs are annoying as hell. I only like the witches. I remember EA made a poll what should be the last expension to sims2: - sth like makin nagic -celebrities and such -completly new stuff And the last won and I am so disapointed.

Thanks again for this review video❣ I would love for you to delve into the Lore. Honestly, Desiderata is the one neighborhood that I rarely play in, as the hobby lots can be accessed from all hoods with FT installed (or by having the Ultimate Collection). I thought you might have added those into your review, as some of them are fairly decent to Nightmare fuel. I kind of see the aesthetic EA was going for with John Mole's abode (it seems to draw inspiration from the Bourne movies, imo). I also do like Natasha Una's home, and the one with the gazeebo (I forget who lives there). There are quite a few issues with the community lots, but they pale in comparison to the Secret Hobby Lots (i.e. Peerless Park has routing issues, although the pond is awesome looking in the fall). All in all, the houses and community lots can be spiffed up with ease. On the other hand, the Secret Hobby Lots (as with all secret lots, aside from the SS lot in TS2:U), are a bit trickier to fix (I still have not figured out how to make fixes permanent either).

First of all I didn't expect you to rate builds here! I did a review with the lots a long time ago, I must say, Desiderata Valley not only is the least attractive, stylistically it suffers from lacking an identity. Pleasantview is the typical American suburban, Strangetown is deserted nowhere, Veronaville with the Tudor and Mediterranean style and RIverblossom hills is more farm and country style. At best Desiderata Valley is a Pleasantview knock off.

I like houses with enough place to have later a nursery (or with a nursery already). But I can't stand buildings where a family lives without the nursery. It's just a big NO-NO from me, especially where the elderly parents still are alive. Where the hell they've raised their kids? There is no sense behind this at all. And don't forget the forgotten objects. It looks like something that was done quickly so that at the end the players would ask themselves, is EA serious?
Still can't decide on whether some houses were just built by bad builders or were intentionally designed poorly to get players to try out build mode. The answer is probably somewhere inbetween. Seriously, what's up with the windows though? One house had a SINGLE window and the one with the windows hiding behind the roof? Excuse me? Also, the pre-mades and 1 bad interaction making them fall out of love 😂

Desiderata may not be the best but I still enjoy it a ton! I regularly find myself thinking about John Mole's home because it just gives me such a nostalgic reason for some reason. Some Dutch homes look like that and it reminds me of my childhood haha.

This is the neighbourhood I use the most, I even have a whole legacy going. I prefer the newer neighbourhoods, because townie sims have better clothes and just look better than the base game clothes and hair.
I've burst out laughing because I am definitely the one who paid 20k for the worst starter home... I forgot that houses in Sims 2 come without full furnishing, so the beginning was a bit rough. I spent all remaining moneys on windows, changing floor&wallpaper and a nice big bed... Also moved one wall and swapped bathroom and bedroom. But I've raised 10 children in this house, so now I'm biased. It's not that bad if you make a little renovation. And all people do renovation in starter homes.

But! These good for new start without bothering about neighbours relationships like we cant married with anyone in pleasant - them all have love or something, or someone have "creepy story"

Marq judges lots harshly like I do. I tend to obsess over architectural design until I think I’ve perfected a style. I’d be interested in Marq giving his own scores for our various submitted lots. Either whatever style or maybe a certain theme. I think I’ve got a few that would score pretty well if I say so myself. 😎

I think EA/Maxis planned to create a hood with "modern" vibes, but the execution was SO bad it came off as basic and plain. The desperate use of wacky colors and patterns in some houses doesn't hide the lack of creativity lmao. Also, about the secret hobby lots, I feel like it was an afterthought. My theory is : at the last moment, EA/Maxis didn't want Desiderata Valley to be the only premade hood with hobby-focused community lots and it would be unpleasant for players to build (or even place lots from the lots bin) several community lots only for that purpose so they added that secret subhood... All of this was probably rushed and that could explain why some lots in Desiderata are "duplicate" and, just like you said, less special. Nice video, and yes another one focused on the lore would be interesting and fun ! :)
I think this neighborhood was done in a hurry, or at least as far as the houses are concerned. Because the difference in detail and commitment is more noticeable in the community lots. However, the lack of care for aesthetics, functionality and practicality in the houses is unbelievable, a Lot of them had 2 or 3 Windows!!!. Several of them did not even have a fully equipped or decorated bathroom. I notice an excess of space in the houses as well as ridiculously high ceilings. Some of the houses are nice, like the one in the first part and the others, but I can't say the same for some of them. The neighborhood could have been a little better in terms of lore and better designed houses. One of the best houses in my opinion is Natasha Una's (that's her name in Spanish). Do you have in mind to do an evaluation with the Riverbloom Hills neighborhood or the universities?

Free Time was my favorite somehow. I miss the many hobbies, it was really fun and I think it's a shame that there isn't anything like that anymore. I think Free Time is a useless pack sorry 😂 it is just boring and I never use the secret lots. The NPCs are annoying as hell.

@@the_sapphirerose oh yeah, I could do that, the Houses Bin has some “gems” for sure! Originally, I even planned on covering the FreeTime bin lots in this video but decided to just focus on the neighborhood in the end

Honestly, Desiderata is the one neighborhood that I rarely play in, as the hobby lots can be accessed from all hoods with FT installed (or by having the Ultimate Collection). I thought you might have added those into your review, as some of them are fairly decent to Nightmare fuel.
I kind of see the aesthetic EA was going for with John Mole's abode (it seems to draw inspiration from the Bourne movies, imo). I also do like Natasha Una's home, and the one with the gazeebo (I forget who lives there).
There are quite a few issues with the community lots, but they pale in comparison to the Secret Hobby Lots (i.e. Peerless Park has routing issues, although the pond is awesome looking in the fall).
All in all, the houses and community lots can be spiffed up with ease. On the other hand, the Secret Hobby Lots (as with all secret lots, aside from the SS lot in TS2:U), are a bit trickier to fix (I still have not figured out how to make fixes permanent either).
@@TheMya1988 Thank you for watching! I was considering doing the hobby lots but decided to only go with the lots that are actually visible on the map. But yeah, there are some moderately questionable ones in that collection too 😭 Maybe another time? 👀 And yeah, I agree most of the regular lots have reasonable potential for a renovation. I guess the devs really gave builders something to do with this pack hahah

First of all I didn't expect you to rate builds here!
I did a review with the lots a long time ago, I must say, Desiderata Valley not only is the least attractive, stylistically it suffers from lacking an identity. Pleasantview is the typical American suburban, Strangetown is deserted nowhere, Veronaville with the Tudor and Mediterranean style and RIverblossom hills is more farm and country style.
At best Desiderata Valley is a Pleasantview knock off.

I like houses with enough place to have later a nursery (or with a nursery already). But I can't stand buildings where a family lives without the nursery. It's just a big NO-NO from me, especially where the elderly parents still are alive. Where the hell they've raised their kids? There is no sense behind this at all. And don't forget the forgotten objects. It looks like something that was done quickly so that at the end the players would ask themselves, is EA serious?

Still can't decide on whether some houses were just built by bad builders or were intentionally designed poorly to get players to try out build mode. The answer is probably somewhere inbetween. Seriously, what's up with the windows though? One house had a SINGLE window and the one with the windows hiding behind the roof? Excuse me?
Also, the pre-mades and 1 bad interaction making them fall out of love 😂

Desiderata may not be the best but I still enjoy it a ton! I regularly find myself thinking about John Mole's home because it just gives me such a nostalgic reason for some reason. Some Dutch homes look like that and it reminds me of my childhood haha.

This is the neighbourhood I use the most, I even have a whole legacy going. I prefer the newer neighbourhoods, because townie sims have better clothes and just look better than the base game clothes and hair.

I've burst out laughing because I am definitely the one who paid 20k for the worst starter home... I forgot that houses in Sims 2 come without full furnishing, so the beginning was a bit rough.
I spent all remaining moneys on windows, changing floor&wallpaper and a nice big bed... Also moved one wall and swapped bathroom and bedroom.
But I've raised 10 children in this house, so now I'm biased. It's not that bad if you make a little renovation. And all people do renovation in starter homes.

(to be fair, my old pc ran the sims2 too poorly and lagged a lot in build mode, I ended motherloding really big houses with everything on it so I won't had to access the build mode again during my play, and the way to build like that on sims 2 stuck)

Marq judges lots harshly like I do. I tend to obsess over architectural design until I think I’ve perfected a style. I’d be interested in Marq giving his own scores for our various submitted lots. Either whatever style or maybe a certain theme. I think I’ve got a few that would score pretty well if I say so myself. 😎

I have been playing sims2 since it came out (with every expension packs) and never heard of this town but it seems I did not miss out much lol.
I broke my laptop a few months ago, got a new one and learned that Sims 2 is no longer available. I had the Ultimate Collection on my old computer for YEARS. Sad, but watching TS2 on RUclips will have to suffice :(

I think EA/Maxis planned to create a hood with "modern" vibes, but the execution was SO bad it came off as basic and plain. The desperate use of wacky colors and patterns in some houses doesn't hide the lack of creativity lmao.
Also, about the secret hobby lots, I feel like it was an afterthought. My theory is : at the last moment, EA/Maxis didn't want Desiderata Valley to be the only premade hood with hobby-focused community lots and it would be unpleasant for players to build (or even place lots from the lots bin) several community lots only for that purpose so they added that secret subhood... All of this was probably rushed and that could explain why some lots in Desiderata are "duplicate" and, just like you said, less special.

I think this neighborhood was done in a hurry, or at least as far as the houses are concerned. Because the difference in detail and commitment is more noticeable in the community lots. However, the lack of care for aesthetics, functionality and practicality in the houses is unbelievable, a Lot of them had 2 or 3 Windows!!!. Several of them did not even have a fully equipped or decorated bathroom. I notice an excess of space in the houses as well as ridiculously high ceilings. Some of the houses are nice, like the one in the first part and the others, but I can't say the same for some of them. The neighborhood could have been a little better in terms of lore and better designed houses. One of the best houses in my opinion is Natasha Una's (that's her name in Spanish). Do you have in mind to do an evaluation with the Riverbloom Hills neighborhood or the universities?
