Hi shy guy. I totally understand. I have been manually flushing it for weeks. Didn't want to call a plumber. Watched this video. Fixed the loose part . In 3 seconds it was fixed AND my gray hair is now brown again! Elizabeth
My dad passed away a year ago, and he used to do any and all repairs to the house I live in (my parents own the house). But now I've been figuring out how to fix things myself. This week's lesson is replacing the lever to the toilet! This video is perfect and helped me so much! Thank you.
Oh my stars. Never in a million years would I have guessed you slide the whole thing threw the handle hole. You legit blew my mind. We broke 1 thinking we had to disconnect the black part. I told myself don’t break another watch a video. So glad I found your video. I will watch till the end and go fix my toilet. Thanks. So much
First-time homeowner here. Thank you for the clear instructions! This gave me the confidence to fix it myself. Once I got the piece it took only a couple minutes.
Thanks. It seems so simple now that I watched your video and made the fix, but I spent a MONTH putting it off. It wasn’t until I watched your video that I got the energy to deal with this. The only thing that threw me for a minute when buying the part was that my toilet has a side handle and most of the parts at the hardware store are for front handles. They did say you could bend the arm but that just seemed like a recipe for disaster so I managed to find a unit specifically designed for side units. It was a few bucks more but installed perfectly! Thanks again for your super clear video!
Thank you!! Our toilet handle lever broke the other day, so I've been flushing it manually. Enough of that, already! Now I'm off to the store to buy a replacement unit, and now I KNOW I can fix this. Thanks for the tip about turning the nut to the left--the opposite of what I thought. P.S. You're a good teacher, with plenty patience and clarity of directions.
Could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Practically your first sentence "this nut screws in the opposite direction of every other nut in the world" (I'm paraphrasing here) and voilá! Just fixed my first toilet ever in my life. THANK YOU!!!
I sure was doing “righty tighty, lefty loosely” and about loose my mind!! I was thinking, “I don’t know what kind of glue they used to install this, but it’s not budging!!!” smiling….it was me all the time!!! 🤣 perfectly installed…after the video of course!!!!😁
The manager at my apartment complex fired our maintenance guy because he didn't believe in using "bandaids" for repairs. Pity for us because we lost the best thing that ever happened to our community. So... since we don't have a maintenance person, and since her responses have been non-existent when it comes to a simple repair to my toilet, I decided to do my research online and I found your video. Thank you so much for these instructions. I was able to find the part at the local Ace Hardware store, and fix my toilet within 3 minutes. You are a lifesaver! :)
I know it’s been years but thank you! I just started living on my own and I have zero experience fixing problems like this because my dad always did it quietly. Feels good to do something on my own!
Thank you so much for this video, I am a woman and I was trying to help my parents who are over seventy. My mom held the flashlight, but after watching your video we fixed the lever in under a minute!! It was funny before we watched the video I was like is this water clean, lol!!
Thank you so much for this video! My wife calls me “the least mechanical man” she’s ever met, so even these types of things can be a challenge for me. I tried to do it with the directions on the back of the box, but found your visual demonstration MUCH easier to follow and understand. What an easy fix for < $10!
So glad it helped! We're all pretty non-technical in some way or another. Growing up, my Dad wasn't allowed to touch tools after his initial few "mishaps" but even he proved to be a great helper in all of my projects as I got older.
Thank you! Thought only man can do this. Waited about 6 months for this to be fixed and it took me 15 min. Very nice video clear to see and not wordy to get the point. Thanks again!
Thank you! I was having a problem where pushing the handle down as far as it would go was barely opening the flapper. You helped me figure out that it was the chain that was too loose after having had the flapper replaced. I adjusted the chain and now it works properly again!
Im absolutely crap at doing repairs and replacements for literally everything but I just replaced out my first toilet bowl handle! It might be simple for some but I'm proud that I did it! 😊
Great instructional video. Very simple and easy to follow. I also appreciated the followup advice to the commenter who couldn't get the plastic nut off (even when turning clockwise). I got out my trusty Swiss Army knife and sawed it off!
Great, straightforward. I suspected that was how it was done once I looked up the part, but it was great to get the reassurance from someone who knows!! Thanks for the tutorial !!
You are wonderful. I know this video is 10 years old but I just broke the toilet handle in my master bathroom and your tutorial helped me fix it in no time I bought the part from Home Depot and voila, toilet fixed....thanks so much for sharing. 🙂
Thank you for making this very helpful video ! I have been trying to replace the flush lever mechanism in one of our toilets- it seemed as though it should not be that hard however I was getting stuck.. it was good to know that the thread is not typical, so your righty loosey/ lefty tight comment was a good tip. A couple of other things became obvious upon watching your video as well. Very nicely explained - saved me having to call a handy person or plumber.. really appreciate your explanation!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm 62years old and was able to replace my flusher by myself. Plumber wanted to change me $100 I went to home depot and brought the flusher for $8 thank you again.
Thank you for this video! I live by myself in NYC and even though I've been isolating and wearing a mask when I do go out, I really did not want to ask my landlord's elderly handyman to come here during the pandemic (mostly for his sake, he needs to stay home, he's retired and just helps out sometimes) and with your video I see that I can easily fix it myself with parts I just ordered for $8.70. You might have just saved a lovely older man from covid exposure with this video! Thank you!
Wow. Thank u so effing much! I fixed my gf's mom's toilet handle in her apartment (she didn't want to call maintenance)... this was such an easy replacement all because of your wonderful video! Seriously. U described each step so easily for anyone who is not too handy when it comes to toilets and the process was quick! Thanks again!
I appreciate this video. I bought my new handle(and lever) but didn’t realize the entire ensemble (minus the locknut) (which I believe you mistakenly called a “washer”) goes through the hole in the tank. I was trying to figure out how to dissemble everything first! Thankfully I watched your vid before I broke the whole dang thing! :)
Thanks, l really appreciate your video and l’m a lady and you made it easy. I just needed to tighten the chain. Thanks for making it simple and saving me the cost of a plumber. 😊
Thank you for this video! Thought it was difficult and waited for days before finding ways to open the nut, but your video encouraged me to just go ahead and try, it's really easy and it blew my mind. Never thought i could do this too, thank you very much!
Thank u sir 4 ur very clear & thorough instructions. I'm not very handy at all but was able 2 fix/replace my toilet handle using your video. Thank u once again.🙏🏾
Thanks mate! I was tightening the nut as I didn't know it was reverse thread. Had to cut off the whole thing off cause it was too tight and I was just breaking it with my pliers, lol. All fixed now, thanks to you. :)
my dad passed away just three weeks ago and I've been figuring on how to fix things out in our house since my mom's already a bit old. My dad was the one who fixes everything in out house so now that he's gone, i gotta do it. One of the things that needs to get fixed is our toilet flush lever so thank you very much for this video, man!
Thank you. I realized I put the plastic screw on the wrong way & you explained that righty tighty is actually backwards & it worked like a charm. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

THANK YOU FOR THIS! My apartment complex literally never sends maintenance when I ask, so I pretty much gotta fix everything here myself. 😬 You’re a lifesaver!
Thanks, that was very informative. My arm didn't break -- it just came unscrewed -- but, you said they screw on the opposite of what you'd think!! And, after 15 minutes of trying to screw it on the OTHER WAY -- that worked!!
Wow, I was having a hard time getting the old toilet handle off, and so I typed in how to fix a toilet handle and your video popped up first. It was great. I think the lefty righty thing was what my problem was. I don't have the new piece yet, a friend suggested I take the old one off first and than I'd know what to bring to the hardware store. Thank you! This is exactly what happened to my handle at 10:30 p.m. tonight! I have to buy the new one. Bless your heart! I thought I needed a plumber!
This was a interesting job, don't think toilet handle had ever been replaced in 45 years at least. Handle snapped off, screw head had corroded on the inside hairpin holding it in place from getting out of hole snapped off but with a careful hot knife I was able to remove old piece and replace with the universal part which was not universal but after shortening I made it work. Thank you for your video!!👍
Yay! Only costed me $6 to replace. Saved me from having to call maintenance and then placing an order for service and letting some stranger access my apartment when im not present. Thanks!!!!
thank you sooo much! i feel like i saved so much money watching this video rather than calling a plumber. injust bought a home and i have no man in the house to fix stuff so i have to figure stuff out on my own. thank you!
Ah!! THANK YOU!!! Lol I literally was doing the righty tighty, lefty loosey - this is the exception (love an outlier!). I’m selling my home and have a showing tomorrow. I forgot to remind the contractor to replace 2 handles where the white paint has worn off. IMO, it’s a definite minor eye sore for a buyer. I bought everything and was baffled - thanks for the clarification.
Thank you! Thank you! I had the parts, but didn't know the "RIGHTY TIGHTY" was BACKWARDS and thought it was stripped! Nope! "LEFTY LOOSEY" tightened it! Who knew? Thank you SO much!

Oh my gosh. Thank you SO much for this video. My toilet handle & the rod that goes from the handle to the chain broke last week. I have been taking the lid off and flushing manually. What a chore to have to so that all the time. I thought it would be hard to replace. I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow to get what I need, then come home and fix it...thanks to you. 😃😊👍
Thank you 🙏 I used to be so clueless about fixing things until I came here, I’m alone with one child because my husband went to work 10 hours from here, and I have to learn from things😊😊😊 THANK YOU 🙏🙏🙏
Thank God, I chanced on your video. Totally forgot about the inside nut turning in the opposite direction and was wrestling with it to open it. After the video it was a breeze. You made my day.
My new handle didn't come with instructions other than "remove old lever, insert new lever" so I searched for instructions and this came up first. Perfect. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m a female and never learned how to fix things; my dad always handled things like this. My toilet handle broke a week ago and I keep asking my husband to fix it, but he hasn’t gotten around to it. Now I can do it myself without having to depend on someone else. I do wish you’d have shown the package of the new part or say what the part is called, but I’m sure I can figure it out if I go to the toilet section at the hardware store. Thanks again! ❤
This came in handy. Yesterday my toilet handle broke, so I rigged a string to the stick, so I could have a temporary fix. Today I picked up the replacement part and with the help of this video, I fixed it. Thanks again !
I'm having this situation. I figured it would be that easy of fix just looking at it. But I had to check a video to make sure. This video helps. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this video! I nearly screwed up by trying to go "righty tighty", but then I remembered your warning about that and I ended up finishing the job in under five minutes!

Thank you we had this broken for a long time and I want to fix this for my family 😊
Just love folks like you who make toilet repair work easy - thank you!
Thank you for this step by step . My family now calls me for this service 😄🤝🏾
thanks for the helpful easy to follow video. I'm not handy at all but was able to fix my toilet handle with this video.
This came in handy. Yesterday my toilet handle broke, so I rigged a string to the stick, so I could have a temporary fix. Today I picked up the replacement part and with the help of this video, I fixed it. Thanks again !
Great demonstration.
I need a side replacement handle set
Thank you for this! It’s 2023 but you just helped me so much
I'm having this situation. I figured it would be that easy of fix just looking at it. But I had to check a video to make sure. This video helps.
Thanks for posting.
Thank you for a short and sweet tutorial.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what has happened to my toilet. I feel confident to fix this and knowing what I need to do. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for this video! I nearly screwed up by trying to go "righty tighty", but then I remembered your warning about that and I ended up finishing the job in under five minutes!
Nice work!
Glad I found this video! Another one I found said this repair should take one hour 😮
Many thanks. I fixed our toilet handle lever easily after watching your video.
Thank you so much. I'm a woman landlord with NO handyman and NO husband. Now, I can do this one!!!!!
I didn’t know that you can actually replace the flush lever. Thanks for this video, I’m going to the store to buy a new one. Thank you!!
'Preciate You big bruh. You just made my day and I solved my problem. Which the leasing office wasn't willing to get us a maintenance to check over it.
Thanks dear, now I can try fixing my flush broken handle that has been faculty for some months now 😘😘
