It’s so cool going back and watching this prep video after watching you celebrate day 75 on the AT and getting the special treat of family time! Can’t wait to see what you do day 100!! Keep going! I’m rooting for you. I started following you as a van lifer but I’m really enjoying your AT adventure. I had knee surgery so no long hikes for me- but I’m going to do trail magic- I want to help thru-hikers after watching how much it could change your mood.
Hi Maddie, how did the backpack work out for you and how is it holing up after the roughness of the trail? I am looking at getting the same thing for my AT thru hike, ULA in Xpack 50.
It wasn’t perfect, but it never got any water inside and if I fiddled with the adjustments every so often, it was okay! I went back though all my gear after the trail, if that’s interesting to you ruclips.net/video/4pf2r22DKiI/видео.htmlsi=J_ZXhNtjq2KOAcde
I don’t really know, sometimes the urge to pee is what gets me out of bed, sometimes I go before setting out for the day just so I don’t have to stop later
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces Thank you so much for answering! And I just notice that I commented on the wrong video, I was binge-watching your adventures! It was meant for the morning routine one. Wish you all the best.
Cant wait to follow you on the trail….you will need to drink a new beer with every new state you get to…to keep with your beer theme of your channel…lol. Best vibes as you het started!!
I try to avoid knowing the exact number to not drive myself crazy but it’s around 21 pounds. The only change I’ve made is swapping things as the seasons change so far!
That’s great. So many people started with heavier packs and they did not look like they were enjoying the trail. Glad you have things dialed in and hope you make things even lighter as you find yourself not using certain gear as much as you thought you would.
I successfully thru-hiked the trail last year. Ditch that tent! I had that same one in 2021. Hated it!!! It's so tiny and has zero ventilation! Every morning everything inside the tent would be wet. Worst tent ever!!! I don't know why REI still sells it. It holds so much condensation! I used a SMD Lunar Solo last year. Much better tent!
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces I sent you funds through superchat during live but if there is a more preferred way (that gives you easier access to the funds while on AT) I would love to help support your efforts on the trail! 😊😊 I know sometimes a good nights rest in a warm dry place can make all the difference! 😊😊😊
From watching your videos on the John Muir trail it encouraged me so I applied for the lottery permit I finally got one for 12 August I’m nervous as hell to try it but I’m going for it.
The ursack seems awesome! At the end of a long tiring day having to find a tree and hang a bag is such a pain in the arse! Looking forward to following your adventure, you will have an amazing experience!
I have the same REI hiking pants. the umbrella will come in handy, I'm sure. Yeah, the Outdoor research hat looks like it will be the choice. I hope you're an REI member and are getting those dividends to use for future purchases. Never embrace the suck on a thru hike. Good call on teh rain pants. Happy Trails, Maddie. Hope to see you near Harpers Ferry.
Thank you!! I am an REI member, but for most of the things I bought this year, I saved more money from shopping around for the lowest price than I would have earned for their rewards!
Good choices, good kit. Once you start, if you're still not sure, stop in at Mountain Crossings at the 30 mile mark and ask them to go over your pack adjustments with you.
The people that benefit from Mountain Crossings’ help the most are the ones who bought backpacking gear for the first time a month or two before stepping foot on the AT. This isn’t Maddie. It’s obvious she knows her sh$t and is an experienced backpacker.

This is really interesting to watch post hike !
Would that satellite stick helped in the stuck mud this year? Love you Maddie ! ❤

@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces cheers thanks!
Thanks for sharing your equipment and introduction to the adventure. I imagine that you inner character will evolve along the trail. Onward!
Can you talk about your meals on trail and do some videos on trail of what you eat?
Sure!! I’ll add that to my list of ideas!
Sure!!
Beer Stipend!! Good Luck with your Trek!
Thanks so much, AK! I really appreciate it!
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Question: when do you go to the bathroom on a typical morning?

You look like a Super 🌟. You can always swap gear on the trail. Enjoy the night stars. Happy trails.
Thanks, Larry! Will do ✨
When u fall in love with the journey everything takes care of its self.
Good luck on the trek. You look as prepared as you can be
Thanks so much 🤘
Happy trails! 👍👍👍
Execelente vlog
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks great Maddie. What is your base weight? Can’t wait to follow your adventures !
Thanks! It’s about 22 pounds without food and water!
That’s pretty good without going crazy! Way to go Maddie. Did you ever read a Walk in the Woods? It’s a good read of what not to do!
what brand is the long sleeved button down shirt
Columbia!
Nice video, right to the point. Only thing I would add is a water proof packliner.
Good luck and don't forget to have fun.
I actually did add a pack liner last minute!! Cool!

What base weight (without food and water) did you start with and have you made any adjustments? If so what is you new base weight at presently?

I agree, I hiked the long trail last summer, and on the rainiest night it leaked, and all of our stuff got soaked. I’m switching to a duplex
@@Nightlight7 I sold my SMD Lunar Solo and bought a like new Duplex!

Great videos Maddie!! Can’t wait to see your first video from the trail!! You got this!!

I got tired of looking for a tree or my line getting hung up in a tree. Also went to an Ursack and an Opsac!
Nice!! From the sound of it, it’s a more popular choice than I realized when I bought it!

@Beer in Beautiful Places also you can bring a mini super glue, if something go wrong it can help with gear and shoes until you get replacement

That scale is hilarious
How so? Because it shows the weight in kg?
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces if you are really counting grams/ounces I don’t see how you can get very accurate with it. Good luck on your hike.
Are you using any sorty of a guide book or is there an app?
Yep, I’m using the app Far Out, which has a map, an elevation map, and comments left by other hikers!
