  • A neighbor had to remove a cherry tree that was struck by lightning. In this video, I demonstrate the amount of effort it took me to cut a piece of the log into usable lumber.
While this video isn't a tool review per se, I do make use of the ‪@StockroomSupply‬ little ripper mill, giving my opinions as I work my way through my first usage of the tool.

Your saw is cutting well. One thing is to try and read the logs. The tree guys invariably (I'm talking decades of experience) cut right through the clear sections and put knots in the middle. But if you can buck around knots (rounded protrusions in the bark where a branch broke off). A decent electric chainsaw with a regular blade (not rip filed) will provide a guy with endless material, even instrument grade if you know how to ID trees. A Luthier needs 2-3' material. Coat the ends and then coat em agian, repeat. EZ days.

Thanks for checking out all my videos!
I definitely got some good boards from the first batch I cut. You’re right on the tree service guys…had I had a chance to talk to them before hand, I’d have love to got some longer logs for some acoustic guitars. But as it is, I can piece together some electric bodies and plenty of cutting board material

Interesting way to do what you did. Little bit on the wobbly side so i don't think you can get accurate cuts that way. Rough cuts for drying looks like the job for that sled assembly though for sure.

Yeah, I was pushing my luck for sure. Upon reflection, using that jig to cut an irregular, 40 lb chunk of wood couldn’t have worked very well.
Since I’ve got another dozen of these to do, I’ll probably forget the idea of the jig and freehand cut the rest. Then once the wood is dry, I can use the jig on the smaller pieces to cut thinner pieces
