I remember the Auckland supporters shouting/singing "Joeli Give Me Hope" !!! like the song "Joana Give Me Hope"......everytime he took the ball, Eden park erupted 🇫🇯🇳🇿
An experience one of my mates and I will never forget till the day we die. One really foggy evening after a game at Eden Park as students sitting in the old Terraces, shortly after Joeli was forced to retire... they allowed the crowd to storm the field. We ran on and about the 22 meter line this massive figure emerged from the mist walking towards us. It was Joeli. My mate and I sprinted towards him. I side stepped left and my mate side stepped right. Coming together behind him we high five and cheered. Joeli burst out laughing. He knew what had just happened. From that moment on (and today we still tell our kids) about the day we side stepped Joeli Vidiri on Eden Park.
I remember watching him tear it up for Auckland back in the day. My cousin came and spent the summer at our house and we'd watch the Super 12 on Sky Sports. He's a big England fan and couldn't understand why I was so into Southern Hemisphere Rugby. I told him to watch Vidiri and he scored a wonderful chip and chase try within minutes of kickoff. He looked at me and simply said "I get it". A great man. Thanks for the memories!
Great tribute to an amazingly gifted man. Highly respected at home in Fiji 🇫🇯 we loved watching him as a kid. Vidiri & Lomu man what a pair .. RIP Lomu God Bless them both great men 🙏✊
I went to an Eden Park open day in the 90s and took a photo of him and my son. I still have it. My son is now 27. Next time I go to NZ I will make a point of going to that Mitre 10 Store (what branch?) and will show him that photo. Much respect.
Joeli you are a legend!! Whenever I see you I feel like singing. Your soul and spirit is a light to this world and especially Pukekohe . Bless you brother 👍🤗
Thank you for the wonderful memories Joeli, you were truly a remarkable athlete, especially while Jonah Lomu was around. RIP till the Rugby Universe Cup in Heaven.
Joelli I hope you read this. Growing up your were one of my favourite players, so gifted, strong, quick and could of played anywhere from 1 to 15 and made a very good job of it. And then you were gone, without a trace, the video gave me closure almost, to know that somebody made a video that told your story. Much respect, great job guys. Nothing but love all the way from England.
My mother had her kidney transplant the week before Jonah’s. The week after Jonah left hospital she was back and she died two days later. I also will soon need a kidney transplant but it gives me strength to watch this and see such a humble genuine awesome man speak. Never take tomorrow for granted and treat everyone as if you won’t see them again. I have learned this!
When first put on the counties jumper I was there ..you played powerfully and gracefully I've always been a big fan of you and so have my family especially my mum Paula Cross.. I'm glad things with your transplant worked out your an amazing man keep well big Joe peace and luv to you and your family
I think you're amazing, and you will never be forgotten by me or God, because you are a very humble man, give my love to you and your family and your mum
Certainly, it makes you think and, in a way, brings your feet back to the ground. Thanks for this real life story of a great, impressive rugby player!!
Legend of the game! Wish you all the best! Stay strong and know that you give people hope as you a good Motivation for us all! Wish you health, wealth and prosperity! Was good watching you play and even better now seeing your fighting spirit! Love from South Africa.
What a great spinoff, should done more great almost all blacks or all blacks that started but dropped off... But great work with this one I remember watching Jo play at Eden pack against Auckland!!
Absolute legend. One of Counties/Blues greatest ever players. I remember when he stepped Andre Joubert in the 1996 super 12 final. Didn't lose an inch of speed and the Great Joubert was left hanging onto thin air.
may the soul of Joeli rest in peace andmay God bless soul amen im Pilipino but i love rugby and im so sad hear the news that they had pass away goodbye Joeli
Makes me proud to be an Auckland blues man knowing some of the great men that played in the jersey, how their character shown throughout the game they loved💯
A mates brother played against Joeli and Jonah in the same match; Counties v Canterbury. He rated Joeli as the better of the two. I moved from Christchurch to Auckland a few years back and live near Pukekohe these days. I see him in Mitre 10 occasionally. I've always wanted to shake his hand and tell him my mate played against him and rated him so very highly.
Growing up Joeli was one of my favorite players, those who handsomely benifitted from his magical displays of greatness should be ashamed that he was not financially secured for life. Same with Jonah and the rest...
I am not sure what your heading is about, joeli Vidiri was simply a great player who bought so much to new Zealand rugby. Sacrificed so much to play in NZ.
The 1st of many Flying Fijians that opted to play for NZ 🇳🇿 Paved the way for Joe Rokocoko, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Sevu Reece and Hoskins Sotutu (Announced soon).
In Afrikaans some coloureds use the term "Vidiri boude". Basically having muscular thighs like Vidiri. Lol silly but part of some local terms in south africa. 💚🇿🇦
Why isnt this man an ambassador for NZ rugby????? Why isnt he travelling the world inspiring young kids?. Shame on you NZ rugby. This guy sacrificed so much for that black jersey!!!!! Your a true legend

Very touching story - We only saw the smiles in his face but behind those smiles, it’s a man struggling to even survive - battling kidney problem

Loved to watch you carve up your opposition like a hot knife through butter 💚✌🏾
Sad to know, my dad loved these guys, don't know about the 10 dislikes, some people just foolish, but great video keep up the efforts, appreciate
The dislikes are most probably from Bunnings workers
I saw him play against england at Twickenham when he played for NZ baa baas in 1996, he was awesome.
Really beautiful and touching episode. Thanks, and congrats to him for what he's achieved, on and off the rugby field.
