Tank driving is not, nor any motorised events, horses are there, and if you watch the Paralympics you will see athletes competing in many different SPORTS and GAMES. But u can use only T72 like tanks, not the Leopard2A6, Russia and Belarus use T72B3M and China use Type 96B, another use T72B, those 3 types of the tank all use 125mm gun and same Autoload system, so German can only use the same tank or same system tanks( they could buy a tank from China, like VT2 tank, this one is type 96s Foreign trade version XD)

Or does one team jump out of a tank and jump in another one (rinse and repeat) all the way to crossing the finish line?...or first tank stops [here], crew exits tank and is replaced with another crew (second verse, same as the first), until checkered flag?
It's not about tanks, but about the skills of the crew. The sport is crew-oriented. The Chinese tank participates, but their tank is very close to the T-72 on which everyone participates. But I am sure if the USA, Germany or the UK wanted to participate, then the tank biathlon would be ready to reformat.

My compliments to the drivers given they were "buttoned up". Also the mechanics who got the vehicles into top readiness and who had to go through them after the competition.
This looks like a LOT of fun! It's amazing just how powerful those main canons are. When those things fire, it moves that entire vehicle and they weigh some 50 60 tons. That is a lot of power coming from that main gun!!

What do you mean the distance is not small? Its way lower than engagement range. My distant uncle (tank commander in the red army in ww2) could do it with his tank in 1945. Combat regularly happens at way higher distance (Yom Kippur war - tank battles between Syria / Egypt and Israel show this clearly, and thats from 1973). It should be at least two times longer, maybe three times since both their target and the tanks are stationary - well trained tank crews in modern MBTs should be shooting at moving enemies at 2,5 km range while they are also moving, most modernised tanks can do it in 3 km even. Stationary vs stationary on competition at half of that seems kinda low.
The t-75 derivatives weight 45-48 tons, the Chinese Type 99 weights 60 tons. It not only looks like western tanks, it weights like them too. 1500 hp makes up for it for normal usage, but in a race, the weight and inertia can still cause issues.

Every tank in this biathlon was a T-72 derivate, be it the russian T-72B3, the uzbek T-72B3 also, or the chineese ZTZ-96/99 (an evolution of the t-72 tanks)
