- विषया विनिवर्तन्ते निराहारस्य देहिनः ।
रसवर्जं रसोऽप्यस्य परं दृष्ट्वा निवर्तते ॥ २-५९॥
Tongue - desire for the taste and other sense organs. अपरोक्ष ज्ञानी does not have attachment to the taste. A normal person will get drawn towards the sense objects.
Sense organs - पञ्चभूत - five basic elements from which creation -
आकाश - space (ears) - space
वायु - all gases (skin), space | touch
तेजः - fire (see) - space | touch | see
आपः - tongue space | touch | see | taste
पृथ्वी (smell) - space | touch | see | taste | smell
आपः and रस are talked about in this Skloka. Is it meant as an indicative of all 5 sense organs?
In terms of grossness, it is neither the least gross nor the grossest.
Tongue is both a कर्मेन्द्रिय and ज्ञानेन्द्रिय।
So it is most difficult. What is the difference between ‘when it is starved’ - what happens when the Gyani sees the Lord - ‘परं दृष्ट्वा निवर्तते’.
