00:33 Cloudflare WARP 1.1.1.1: Free VPN???
Cloudflare promises that WARP is not an April Fools joke: they're really adding a free VPN service to their 1.1.1.1 app for Android and iOS. We were impressed with the 1.1.1.1 DNS resolver when it launched, a review the current Android and iOS app is in the video!

11:07 Computer Power Supply Upgrade!
Chris messaged us on Patreon about motherboards, then asked, "How about PSU brands? I currently have corsair that emits an electrical buzz when under load. So I would like to find something else that doesn't have that noise." We talk coil whine, how to fix it, 10 year warranties on power supplies (and HardOCP’s testing of 10 year old PSUs!), 80+ PSU certifications, and, of course, picks from Seasonic, EVGA, and Corsair in the video!

19:16 Riding In Waymo Self Driving Cars!
This weekend Shannon was flown out by Google to see and experience the Waymo self driving cars in action during a brand ambassador trip to Phoenix Arizona. What was it like riding while an AI drove the car? Watch the video!

34:37 Cold Reboot Your Cable Modem - Or Anything - Automatically!
Want to restart that cable modem/ISP box (or anything that runs on 120V) automatically? @roughlyandrew tweets, "On the podcast you discussed periodically restarting devices. There are some devices to help, including Kasa Power Strip & the 3Gstore Switch. The latter pings regularly & restarts the cable modem if the net connection is lost." Thanks Andrew!!!

Like Evan! His Dad just found a pile of "original reel 2 reel recordings of things like his wedding & other family things from before video. No idea what to do to digitize. Is there a service?" Yup! Memories Renewed and LegacyBox are two of the many services that will digitize those tapes!

The real limit on adopting driverless cars won't be the technology, it will be sorting out liability in case of an accident. If the original deep-pocketed technology vendor gets sued every time, even Google will keep the car in the garage. It's going to require rational, well-written legislation from Congress, so don't hold your breath.
"coil whine" is a result of magnetostrictive force. An alternating current (as is found in switching power supplies, causes the magnetic material (think core) to expand and contract based on the alternating current flowing through the wires.
The Waymo footage was pretty cool. It makes me curious how it would handle snow up here in MN... Snow drastically impacts the calculated time to get through an intersection, cross a street, stop etc...
If you want a router to reboot regularly just set a Cron job in it. Most run Linux. If it's an all in one with built in modem the whole thing can restart on schedule. It should be possible to set them up to reboot when connectivity is lost for a certain time frame as well.
As someone who is visually impaired and cannot drive I would LOVE to have a self driving car
I have an hour commute at highway speeds almost the whole way. I would love a self driving cars so I could get an extra hour of sleep.
I've heard that trucking companies can't hire enough drivers and the existing supply of drivers is slowly nearing retirement.
Great show. Been driving through the Candler are for year and always get excited to see the Wyamo cars. Glad they picked you to be an ambassador.
Waymo's progress has been impressive over the years. Was weird/cool seeing them drive around last time I was in AZ. My question though is how well they'd do on the spaghetti mess that is European roads. I feel like the organised grid-layout of a lot of US cities helps with their navigation
Comcast X1 devices for TV already do this reboot cycle automatically. The call it daily "updates" but it is really a daily reprieve for terrible hardware/software...thanks Comcast 👍 you can configure the time or postpone if watching TV. Not sure about the modem as I have always refused to lease an ISP modem or router since the beginning of time.
Tried PIA but battery life tanked so that would be a major test consideration when you do get to test it
That speed test was useless because a DNS resolver only helps with the initial connection to the web server by converting the web address to an IP address.. hence the 13 ms response time you mentioned from the list comparing query times. A speed test will only be affected in the real world by a VPN or your traffic taking another route to the destination and/or the return path depending on congestion on the internet.
Always informative, and my kingdom for youtube-wide volume normalization.
The Kasa Power Strip is a great product and can automatically restart everything EXCEPT your router and cable modem. You control it with Alexa, Google or its own Kasa Home app. They all require a Wi-Fi connection. So the second you turn off your router or your modem, you have to manually control the power strip Plugging it in unplugging it just like a cheap one.
It works wonderfully for restarting anything else though, and has scheduling and power monitoring built in.
SaveMe GrilledCheesus I use an Insteon on/off module and a mini remote. That way you can turn it back on even with the loss of WiFi and/or internet. Used one on my router and a different one on my access point.
@@dennishalling2805 thanks Dennis I wasn't implying there are no products that do this I was just saying that this particular product does not
Want self driving cars. Great episode. : )
Why does Waymo do all of their smart driving burning dinosaurs? Electric cars make a lot more sense doing that kind of mileage.
You can also build your own reset switch using a Wemos D1 Mini with a relay for less than $10
i dont think LIDAR can see though things like tress... so no xray vision
Time for an update: Warp is live. Comparing DoH vs DoT now would be a nice thing too...as would full vs split tunnel.
Great show! ✌️
Check out Tony Seba’s video on self driving cars and how it’s a disruptive technology. He does the best job at describing how disruption works and why no one sees it coming. I believe all tech channels should give a review of his video.
i use a rPi SSH and wake on lan for my PC and Pi's. once i am on my network via either the PI or RDP. i can restart switch things on and off. dont see why this could not be built to use smart sockets.
Oh, looms... I thought Patrick said loos. That changed the meaning.
Driverless taxi sound great.
Wow, I have never had a power supply 'buzzing'. Do you have a sound bite?
Self driving car a motion sickness sufferers nightmare.
What is with the whole Max Headroom thing?
Whoo hoo I beat snubs on the wait list lol
If self-driving cars take over, can I stop renewing my driver's license?? LOL
Did I understand correctly that a power supply only uses the amount of energy needed at a given time and not the rated wattage? So if my PC is on 24x7, it isn't using 750W at all times, but instead the amount of watts will fluctuate depending on what the computer is doing? What about laptop power supplies?
Yes you did, and even better news, unless you are running quad sli, there is almost no way your computer is running 750W ever. Even with a high end rig running a 9900k, 2Hdds, 32Gb ram and a rtx 2080 will consume under 500W at max load and under 100W when idling (or doing something simple like watching video or web surfing)
@@savemegrilledcheesus494 Thanks for the info. All these many years i thought my computer was running up the electric bill.
my question is will warp work with netflix lol. we'll find out when it actually comes out.
i think we need a little more testing before we accept self driving cars, they dont exactly have the best track record even right now and theres not even that many on the road lol
They have a better track record than people
Was going to say the Waymo thing has been around for some time, must be new to your area, Then you actually come to my Area to take a ride. Well then. That is interesting
Get Smart and the Cone of Silence?
What happens if the car comes up to an accident, construction or a closed road not reported in Google maps?
It maps out alternative directions and also takes construction signs into account as well as cops hand signals. The car learns how cops may signal to divert traffic and will turn in the direction it thinks it supposed to go. Good question! Our waymo coordinator gave us a bunch of info on this.
can you suggest a software in which i can merge 70 different csv and xls contact files
Python :)
Unfortunately the service is blocked in China.
What isn't?
Since this is one of the easiest ways to communicate with you guys I am just plain confused as to why you review and suggest so many Huawei products especially with your affiliation with Hack5. Now another and major universities is disassociating with them: "MIT breaks ties with Huawei and ZTE over security risks, government investigations". Pleae don't take this as an attack on you guys or the show....just mainly concerned especially with knowledge that has been found.
Well, until about 3 days ago, we haven't actually seen any reports of a real physical threat to security found in the devices (see: www.rollcall.com/news/congress/u-k-spy-agency-criticizes-huawei-device-vulnerabilities) just fear (and possibly trade war bias?) that the products are being used to pass data to the Chinese gov't. But even then, the vulns found by the UK weren't believed to be there due to Chinese state actors. So far, I havent seen a reported security vulnerability tied to the gov't. Have you? I've been following it pretty closely and while I've seen lots of sanctions and bans, I'd love to know if I'm missing something.
Appreciate the feedback and quick response. In the circles I travel in there has been evidence for a while now however I suppose from a political standpoint it can be dicey on what to share and not share. Once again thanks for the response!
Dose it keep your ISP form seeing what you do I am wondering if cloudfalir dose that
Not until you get the invite and use the full VPN service.
Some countries ISP's block websites at the DNS level, some log access at DNS level. Using an alternate DNS will avoid that. But, your ISP will still see connections to the IP address. Only by using an encrypted VPN can you prevent your ISP from seeing your traffic, that is if it doesn't leak.

Driver-less cars...no thanks. When they build a car that can drive around in rural New England in the winter then maybe I'll change my mind.
