a single woman must never take anything given to her directly from a Muslim man she must insist that he put it down somewhere for her to pick it up by herself when a woman shakes a Muslim man’s hand or takes something he is handing to her directly it means that she is open to his full advances if you are not married it can help to wear a wedding ring anyway and talk about being on your way to meet your husband ( not your boyfriend or fiancé ) these negative things can even happen at the border entering a Muslim country going through immigration in 1979 entering Bangladesh with a male friend traveling with me, a large group of Muslim men approached us telling us that the immigration office was closed and inviting us to spend the night with them ( in fact the immigration office was open 24 hours and they had lied to us ) and all night long I had to beat off several men attempting to get into my sleeping bag in Sri Lanka it is known that back packs and suitcases will be rummaged through and stolen from when checking in at the airport and during my taxi ride going to the airport in Columbia the driver forced me to give him extra money and jewelry to take me to the airport on time; he literally drove me away from the airport threatening that I would miss my plane if I didn’t give him what he wanted Then when I arrived at the airport they told me I was too late to board the plane yet I could see that the plane was still on the tarmac and the boarding stairs were still down and the plane door open yet I had to argue with them to allow me to pass and get on the plane... I think they were angry because I had used twine to tie all the zipper pockets on my backpack together so it would take them too much time to ransack my backpack before loading it on the airplane In Jakarta I was constantly being mauled by pick pockets while walking in the city markets In Medan a houseboy came into my room at night to pilfer through my purse looking for money yet the sound of my bangle bracelets being jingled in my purse woke me up to catch him red handed... luckily In Calcutta I worked at an orphanage with Mother Teresa and her sisters and a Sikh man approached me offering to take photos of me and I agreed yet then he printed Many copies of my photos expecting me to buy them all at a high price that I couldn’t afford. He then interrogated me on my marital status. Many times men would grab my ass or breast as I walked down the crowded streets even though I wore a sari bottom line is that women are a commodity we are meat, we are receptacles, and we are prey when we travel alone and when we are too open and caring to trust everyone alone or without a man ( at times I traveled with a female friend) we become targets since many cultures do not see us as being empowered or independent, instead we are seen as being weak and stupid. remember in the eyes of a Muslim man, women are nothing without a man to care for them; they are second class to the more spiritually superior man I recently stayed at a Muslim home at an AirBnb location in the United States and the wife was very gracious yet she asked permission to do everything ( it was shocking to me ) the lovely couple gave me a copy of the Quran to consider studying what it is to be a Muslim (as I was leaving as a gift to educate me about their beliefs ) and I was surprised to read that homosexual men are supposed to be stoned to death ( and this was a very modern copy of the Quran ) and it made me wonder why this atrocious act would be considered a positive choice or belief..... bottomline is that we may feel emancipated yet others see us through their lens
I had a similar experience in Indonesia on the beach. I went with my bikini, didnt make any research, sooo ashamed feeling naked, a very strange feeling as Im from Spain and it's very different there. You look great Krystal!!! Im so glad for you! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
So inspiring ! I’ve always wanted to start traveling but thought of myself as someone who was always too shy and people might see me as someone vulnerable. You are such an inspiration !
Melanie Garcia I was super shy when I started traveling so I just kept to myself a lot and was more careful! Also staying at hostels made me feel safer. You can totally do it 😸💜
Great advice as always my beautiful Krystal! Just to echo you, ignore your intuition at your own peril. We can sense negative energies even if we can't pinpoint what's wrong. Everything you mention here is applicable to any traveler, even couples. As you say though, they are particularly important for the solo female. Safe travels
Thank you so much for this video! This also happens to be the first time I travel alone this year to Europe, and I was afraid to do it alone! But thanks to this video I now have so much confidence in myself to take this first big step 💛
Very grateful for this as I love to travel solo also and always love more advise I live in cairns Australia and honestly have found this city pretty dangerous at night and had scary taxi drivers too
it's no joke, I went to Turkey over a decade ago & as beautiful as it was the men (& I'm talking about half, literally) were following western women particularly blondes to the point where me and my mates were actually having a conversation about it, bloody creepy! + good luck NOT standing out ; Your pretty striking on the eyes
I would love to know that story where you had to use the pepper spray!
