This is so true. I’m a loner and when I’m home no one EVER approaches me and wants to take. But when I travel solo, I get people waking and taking to me all the time. It’s wonderful!
Been a solo traveler for 3 years, it's a life changing experience that I love to go back over and over again. It teaches you to be rely on yourself and to be more independent 💯.

Once you go solo, the idea of having to plan a trip with someone else seems annoying. I absolutely love this. I solo travel all the time (over 30 countries and counting). The best places to go to meet people are hostels and events. Always google the latest scams in the area (especially on transportation). I went a trip by myself to Strasbourg, France on Saturday and it filled my energy cup. I got to cafe-sit, people-watch, eat churros and take in the scenery without distraction. I have a fiance whom I adore and long to be close to and fully supports my trips alone and we enjoy trips together. Solo travel is normal for a lot of people. Don't be discouraged by the naysayers. xxSafe Travelsxx

This gave me a sigh of relief. I have been so nervous thinking about a solo trip to Japan or Europe. I’ve watched way too many crime specials, and I’m terrified to be a solo female traveller. I think I’m going to do it.
@@cwilson7458 idk about japan but most countries in europe are perfectly safe ( specially southerns that live of tourism ) , so its pretty safe to travel there solo, they arent 3rd world countries
Those are comparatively safe destinations for women. Just do your research on the cultures (and take a detailed look at the crime stats - in many parts of the world the rates of murder and rape are high but rarely involve travelers) and stay alert. Countries I really wouldn't travel alone are India and most Islamic countries. And maybe a few in south America and Africa but that can vary a lot. It also depends on the type of travel you do or traveler you are. Eg. being out late at night is always more dangerous no matter what part of the world you're in but ppl still do it.
@@cwilson7458 you sound like someone who wants to control women and keep them in 'their place'. If you're actually female then I'd think seriously about the people who've caused you to think this way and how it's affecting your life
Packing cubes was honestly one of the best investments I've ever made for travelling. The convenience it brings you is just a quality of life thing you never knew you needed.
So amazing to hear this! I’m from SF, and did the exact same thing my first year out of college working in tech. After two years of traveling I came back and worked at Lyft where my coworker told me about your channel since you two worked together. Such a small world!
I remember I went on my solo trip in Ilocos Norte and Sur. Everyone is asking why am I going solo? Hahaha. Like it is a sin. Thanks for the tip Haley! Planning to do one in Mindanao next year!

Last time i traveled solo, things were easy and less stressful. Last time I traveled with a friend, we got stranded. So if you're traveling solo, follow this girls advice. If you're traveling with a friend, be sure he does not do drugs.
I'd agree with a lot of that. I've done a number of trips as a solo female from my 20's onwards and most people you meet overseas are indifferent at worst, friendly and helpful at best, but you must always keep aware of your surroundings. I make a habit never to drink or have headphones in when I'm out and about alone in potentially risky situations. It's just not worth putting yourself in that sort of position if you are unlucky and someone without the best of intentions is about (and I also agree that should be always, not just when overseas). If something feels off, then consider leaving/not going. Better to be safe than sorry. Be cautious of being approached by overly friendly people who then suggest they show you the sights, a cool shop or a resturant to eat, they might be genuine, but there's a good chance you're about to get scammed or worse so think carefully about whether their story is making sense. (I was approached many times, I wonder if you're a solo traveler you may be seen as a bit of an easier mark and you notice the similaries in the pitches after a while) But, there's no point assuming everyone is out to get you either as that's simply not true at all. Most people are decent human beings, and I've been surprised by just how helpful and nice some have been when I've had an issue when overseas. Also do some basic reading and research so know where you're going, what to expect, cost of living, what the common risks are, health concerns to be prepared for (water, vaccs, water/insect borne diseases etc) and so you're less likely to run afoul of local laws or customs. When you're in another country, if you respect the local laws and customs, it's not only polite, but means you're less likely to upset anyone or get yourself into trouble. Not just relevant to solo traveling either. Don't be afraid to get off the main tourist traps either as a solo traveler. The best thing I did on my first overseas solo trip was to decide to plan much of it myself, rather than relying entirely on the travel agent. I actually hated some of the things they planned, but loved most of the stuff I organised myself (they couldn't book anything related to a place I wanted to go so I just decided to go for it and take my chances.) It was all done on a super short notice time frame, so you can just go for it without everything being overly planned out, but I still had a good idea of what I was going to do and when. (Which kinda got thrown out the window when a bad storm hit one of the places I was meant to go and delayed the trip, but if you don't panic you can often sort it out.) Travel agents can be good for booking flights though. I've found a few times they've managed better deals (or at least matched) than I could find online, and then you have someone to call to help if stuff going belly up with the flights which obviously happens sometimes with connecting flights being missed or canceled for whatever reason. Get travel insurance also. Read travel reviews for hotels, locations and tours on places like trip advisor, then take them with a grain of salt. Some may be false, but you can often get a feeling for how good a place will be for a solo traveler from them before committing to go there. Picking a common tourist destination as your first solo trip can also be helpful to find your feet as it'll be much easier to find options if you get stuck at any point. I also agree with giving trusted people your itinery and telling them you'll check in at regular intervals. Get a local sim if staying any length of time and give them your number so they can call if concerned that you haven't checked your email in days (probably due to poor internet.) Some countries also have a register you can sign up for so that if there is some kind of unexpected disaster, they know you're there and will hopefully come looking to help you out. Keep photocopies of all your important ID and travel papers in different bags. Put locks on your backpack zips or carry them in front if anywhere where theft might be likely to reduce the chances of losing something important. (Such as crowded places.) People often ask me if I get lonely, but I'd have to say if you're traveling alone, you're far more likely to strike up conversations and make friends as you go along.. Personally I think it's a very good idea to have a basic plan before you go that you can work to and budget for. Not everything has to be booked depending on what you're doing, but it's nice to know things like what days and times a ferry/train runs, prebook accomodation before arriving (especially if local festivals, holidays or events are in effect or it's a small place with limited options will save you a lot of stress) If things change, you can often change with it, but if there's no plan at all, you could get stuck in some way sooner or later. Oh yeah almost forgot! As you're the only one funding your trip in attendance. Have a back up method of getting cash (Extra cards etc) and carry at least some petty cash in local currency for times when you may not be able to access money. One time before I'd even departed, the ATM at first stop over (before I'd even left my home country) ate my primary ATM card shortly before I was due to board the connecting flight!!! If I didn't have a back up card I could use I would have been in so much trouble at that point! Not worth the stress. But yeah, I do love the freedom that comes with solo traveling. You can decide to go and do what you want on your own time. Just needs a bit more preparation to make it a good experience.
I've done 3 solo road trips so far and have more in the planning. There's a lot to be said for solo travel!!! I'm not brave enough to travel solo to a foreign country though. Thank you so much for this video it gave me such a relief! I am 19 and want to start traveling alone and was very scared but now I’m ready for it after seeing thus vid!
I love solo travel, I have nothing bad to say about it. If there were one thing that I do find a little melancholy about it, it's not being able to talk about the things you have experienced and seen with someone you shared a special unforgettable moment with! Do you remember that time we did this or saw that? Do you remember that family that took us in for the weekend because we were stranded and there was no transport, what was that families name? Little things like that, but it's not a problem but sometimes would be nice to remember things with someone and relive the moment and have a laugh over a few drinks :) I loved this video, thank you x
Well.... I am an introvert (Honestly I am not comfortable commenting here too! ) But I want to start travelling alone as I hardly know anyone who has the time to go on trips with me. For me, I feel the hardest part will be meeting and talking to new people. I am too reserved and I dont feel comfortable opening up to new people. I am confused and dont know what to do now! 😅
Just like your mom, at an early age left Manila went to Denmark to chase her dreams. Really admired your strong personality to be able to do all this alone at an early age and looked at you now a very secured independent strong lady, you inspire us to travel just like you are with all your tips, stay safe👍😘
This was a great video! While my wife and I are newlyweds and won't be traveling SOLO.. we are definitely enjoying the travels that we have been on together!
Same. I stayed in a 5* hotel with Fine Dining 20 years ago and I suffered from Anxiety each day thinking about the restaurant. The staff were lovely, guests chatted to me, I always took a book to read, but still..... i didn't enjoy it. And I wasn't even alone, my sister, her husband, and my niece were there too, at another hotel....but still that anxiety.....it was there.
My biggest fear with traveling solo is not being able to communicate - the first time i left my country was in 2021 to come to Mexico, and I'm still here! But i came with the intention to learn Spanish. Now I'm itching to travel the world but i worry about not speaking their language
Watching this video alone in the hotel restaurant in a country that I landed not even 2 hours ago. 4 weeks to go with solo traveling through Spain and Italy. Scared but excited! Let’s do this!!
@@Hereforthecomments1 Hei Wyatt, It was AMAZING! The best trip of my life. I just went to hostels and met amazing people. In the beginning I was a bit shy but then as I started getting more confident, I started making friends really fast. I recomend to everyone to do a solo trip.
You and Will are really amazing people! Thank you for sharing this and for inspiring us who are kind of skeptical about traveling solo. We just really gotta do it because at the end of the day we are not gonna stay here forever! Let us all spend our time here on this planet wisely.
Especially if you're a guy. (It's a 1000x better than spending half your money on another person such as a girlfriend/wife.) Also, I'm confused..."Meeting, and Traveling? Sounds like you were spending those times kinda rent-free with men/women, and offered to pay for the food as a way to pay for rent...if you're a guy it isn't that easy, just save up guys, and by the end of the year, treat yourself, because this woman has it easy. We men must really earn out way towards solo traveling.)
I have traveled pretty much Asia (house in Bangkok), Europe and Middle East, but lately am looking for a solo travel as I lost my Thai wife in Feb 16 2024 to Dementia and have travel many place as well as her. She was a flight attendant for Thai, Pan Am, United retired cause of her illness. But she told me to continue on in travels as I know she would want me to. Someplace would like to see again. You mentioned many good tips as I already do practice that but you missed out that many places have certain cultures and guideline for visiting in countries. For instance Thailand at the Temple women need to cover their shoulder and head and men no shorts and baseball cap etc.....many of these countries are listed to go by the culture and behavior to not upset anyone. I liked your video! Thank you!
Hello Haley, first thank you foe this video. I wanted to ask you , did you have a lot of travelling experience before starting to go solo? I’ve dreamt my whole life of travelling and experiencing cultures but I’ve never taken a plane and going though that stresses me out. Last year I travelled solo (kinda) for the first time with an organized group to new york by bus. Once in New York I was by myself most of the time . Thinking back now, I did really enjoy myself but I feel like maybe the perks of travelling with someone is to share the experience with them. Sorry for the long paragraph, honestly could have an hour conversation with you 😅
Mary ann dela cruz,Hi Haley ,I admire a lady like you for being independent in a young age.In that way you're becoming more mature knowing which you like.God bless you more and Wii,mama papa
Cleaning out ones savings and buying a one way ticket to some random place on the other side of the world doeasnt seem like a bright idea that would ever work outside of absurd luck.
When you travel how do you connect with your phone and stay on the web if you’re constantly traveling from copperhead/ Egypt for example? Do you use a a different SIM card at every location ?
You got the love when people say they travel solo but then they are not alone! That is not solo travel under no circumstances. Solo means you are traveling on your own, alone without anyone else!! If you go alone but then you are making friends left and right and traveling with them, you are not traveling solo.... duh!!! I love to travel alone. I get to do what I want, with total freedom, with no stress due to other people. I get to see so much stuff and never need to compromise because I always have a plan B and C and D...... lovely. Traveling without a plan is just planning to fail.
Although solo traveller as a female is not easy but you are energetic and positive ... Like your videos and the way you describe .. its amazing .. Love from pakistan

She did not just say cancel gym membership...
U can train calisthenics for free
I love traveling solo. I can do whatever I want whenever I want ❤️
Lol I can NEVER do big things like this. I even get really anxious when I have to plan a hangout with my friends.
That's my fear because it's one of the most special things to remember when you're traveling with others. However, this will not stop me!!
For me it is the same.
Hi Haley. Thanks for this inspiring video. I am planning for my first solo trip in South East Asia, can you recommend one country?
You look much beautiful without any makeup. 😊
These are really great tips! This is such an important topic to be discussing as well, I really enjoyed the video!
Hello. I enjoyed the video.
We are planning to capture nature along the coastline of Korea. Please show a lot of interest.
my whole life has been one big solo trip 😅
Just like your mom, at an early age left Manila went to Denmark to chase her dreams. Really admired your strong personality to be able to do all this alone at an early age and looked at you now a very secured independent strong lady, you inspire us to travel just like you are with all your tips, stay safe👍😘
Thanks for the great tips! I have solo traveled in the US but not yet internationally - but it's a goal for 2022 :)
I've been to 8 countries solo :) doing other two this winter break from school!
This was a great video! While my wife and I are newlyweds and won't be traveling SOLO.. we are definitely enjoying the travels that we have been on together!
I have been a solo traveler for about 5 years now, and I wish I had watched your video when I first started. These tips are 🔥
I know this is an old video but does anyone have any dining alone tips? It’s my biggest anxiety right now
Love traveling and solo trips are always awesome. Thanks for the tips, could definitely use these tips during my next travel.
5th . 1 min late 😍💖 imagine a Heart from my Idol💖💖💖💖💖
Hey how was it
@@Hereforthecomments1 Hei Wyatt,
It was AMAZING! The best trip of my life.
I just went to hostels and met amazing people. In the beginning I was a bit shy but then as I started getting more confident, I started making friends really fast.
I recomend to everyone to do a solo trip.
Okay i made up my mind I wanna travel too someday 😂💖
You and Will are really amazing people! Thank you for sharing this and for inspiring us who are kind of skeptical about traveling solo. We just really gotta do it because at the end of the day we are not gonna stay here forever! Let us all spend our time here on this planet wisely.
Thanks so much for this video! This really did help motivate me to do solo traveling which I have been longing to do for years :)
I'm glad I came across this. Very informative. I'm going to Tokyo 28th of April. First time traveling overseas and going solo.
I miss traveling so much, had to watch some traveling videos and put up my own as well 😱✈️
Hi Haley! Thank you for all the tips. Empowering content.
Hope we all can travel more this year.
Thank you!
I CANT TRAVEL THIS SUMMER EITHER BECAUSE OF CORONA😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬!!!!!!!
How do u book a flight 😅
50 countries..... You must have a terribly big carbon footprint :'( Tho I sure get the wish to travel
You’re absolutely right that most people are decent. It’s actually a selfless belief to grasp that. I’ll definitely check out the rest of your videos. Good luck with your channel!

Maybe after this pandemic 😷
Cool, thanks for all the help Haley. I've been a shut in most of my life as an artist an tech guy. I've made the decision that I'm going to sell my house and just start traveling with the extra money I can save.
"and also remember their name"
Well shit
Good points mentioned, so will definitely help! I know you touched on it, but do you have any recommendations on where to go for 1st time solo travellers??
Just wondering, in the different countries you traveled to, did you find a job there? And how did you keep your money out of the negatives? hahahaha
I wanna travel so bad but I only have a couple friends (introvert) and they just wanna go party. I’m gonna try solo traveling soon and I’m scared to death
Awsome vedio
Wait don't cut the gym membership you wanna look good for your trip 😎
Tip 1: be an attractive girl with an outgoing personality and life will come to you.

trying to find ways of using my education and experience to do small work jobs, my major in marine biology but I had a friend who went to South America and worked at a bird sanctuary for 1.5 months, and food and housing were covered. I wonder if you know other places like that around the world where you just work for a bit until you are ready to move on.
Hello! thank you so much for your advices. I wanna travel alone but just like you were before, i'm scared of loneliness ! Do you think it's better for me to go to a hostel (knowing I will be scared to see other people with friends while I'm alone) or go to an RBNB ?
I'm 15 and this is my dream since I was a child but my very big problem is money
You said you left for Denmark without much of a budget so how did u manage to travel for 4 months did u find work out there?
This is great! I am building out a 1988 chevy van home to travel and work in film and tv and I have been worried bc I am a solo female traveler so I really want to make sure I take extra safety precautions. Thank you for making a video for fellow women. It can be a battle to be a woman in this world but we are so much safer if we have each other's backs
HELLO THANK YOU FOR YOUR WONDERFUL I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU AND I HOPE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO ANSWER ME WHAT KIND INSURERS TRAVEL DO YOU RECOMMEND TO BUY
Is it really solo if you interacted with another human along the way? NU
I look forward to travel. Great video and it reminds me that I once saw a backpack review where the big pack had a detachable day pack and maybe carry on as well? Definitely the day pack though. So awesome. Thanks!
Wanna visit nigeria from india please tell me about connecting flight.
I’m think about going to the Philippines. It sounds similar enough but also very unique
