    This is always one of my all time favs. And no matter how many times I watch it I can’t help notice the tool marks on outside of lid and bottom hahahahhaaaa. Not like I’m not expecting it. Lol

    I’m new to turning and I didn’t know paste wax can help reduce tear out. I’ve battling with that. Thanks for the tip and I’m gonna try this project.

    Great tutorial. Close-up views are the best.

    Why did we add wax on a few cuts? Adding wax will help support the fibers during a cut, reducing tear-out on difficult timber.

    It would be better if you cut the join between the top and bottom the opposite way. That way stray salt would fall back into the box instead of out.

    I’m currently making one of these. This is also my first box. Gonna get some new wood soon. Hopefully some walnut.

    Thanks for the videos. As a beginner it would be great if you could write in the corner as the video is playing which tool is being used and what finish is being applied. Otherwise I don't know how to follow along.

    As usual. These folks offer training courses. I strongly recommend whichever that meets your skills. Everything is absolutely first class. The Powermatic Lathes, Tools, sharpening stations, and class projects.

      Craft Supplies USA. My pleasure. I forgot to add that not only are the facilities first class, but so are the instructors. Scott and Kirk communicate their expertise very effectively. I learned more in one week with these gents than in years of self taught experimenting. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks again for such a great class.

    I really like the video and the box but as an amateur chef, would not be my first choice for a salt container. The tall lid- how much salt fits up in there, and the little button knob when your hands are wet.

    Très intéressant, mais dommage que l'on ne voit qu'une présentation et aucune information. Quel est le bois idéal pour y mettre du sel sans altérer le bois et donner un goût au sel?

    The paste wax is used to prevent tear out, but also is used after sanding? And then beeswax over top?

    • @CraftSuppliesUSA
      @CraftSuppliesUSA  5 лет назад +1

      We used Scratch Free Wax to prevent tearout, then we used it again to polish the wood (as the final sanding grit) before applying a beeswax finish. Here's a link to Scratch Free if you're interested. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/17/5652/Dr.-Kirks-Scratch-FREEE-Woodturners-Polishing-Wax

      @@CraftSuppliesUSA I am relatively new to turning but isn't sanding paste/wax applied before using tools, dulls any tools that are used because it has either Tripoli or Deatomaceous earth?

    I have been turning more boxes lately and learn a few tips from this video. It would be helpful if you showed the lathe speed at the beginning of the video and the speed when ever it is changed. I am always looking for more tips from experienced turners.
