Watch the original. Never a need to remake it.
It already had one with Rutger hauer
Can you really remake a book?
That one sucked too. Stephen King's book deserves better than what Hooper, TNT and now Warner made.
But the original, which was made for TV and is unmatched, didn't have the all important race swapping. That matters more than the actual material these days.
@@Hatchetforce The Hooper version didn't give a crap about the material as well. The 79 version took the story of a rural small town community with a lot of baggage being corrupted by evil into a 08/15 vampire horror flick which only has 3 good scenes and otherwise is a snoozefest at worst, a cheap jumpscare compilation at best. It's "unmatched" solely because of nostalgia of the older generation. But in actuality it's a bad made for TV adaptation that can't grasp what the book is all about. Hooper might be good for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, for King's works he's unfit. The fact that Dauberman's Remake orients itself on the 79 version already killed it on arrival, as it makes it just a bad Remake of an already bad adaptation.
Remember Stephen King also praised the Flash movie.
Stephen King talks a lot of crap. I like his books, but his forcing of his politics into them is increasingly intrusive and unhinged ('Gwendy's Final Task' was 80 per cent Trump Derangement Syndrome!) It's like he feels guilty about being a multimillionaire, so he has to slag off Republicans and conservatives at every turn. Hilariously, a good 80 per cent of his characters are absolutely archetypal small town, small-'c' conservative Republican-types that he has to go out of his way to claim are Democrats.
And bashed The Night Stalker (1972) television series. He wrote a reporter facing a different monster every week was unrealistic. I detect jealousy.
Which was a great film
The Flash is fantastic!
Salem's Flop
🤣 Good one!
😂😂😂brilliant
Ayye, nice 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nice, they'll never recover from that one.
It's just going to HBO
Stephen king.... I recall the one time he directed a film.... Maxium overdrive.... He was on more cocaine than tony Montana
Hilarious 😂 😂
Stephen King claims Kubrick was being lazy when he made Barry Lyndon & The Shining. He claims his 1997 miniseries is superior in every single way.
Loved that film as a kid. The vending machine scene was hilarious
That machine called me an asshole!- King
I remember reading that he doesn't remember writing Cujo, only that he had tissues rammed up his nose to stop all the blood gushing out! His screenwriting is awful.
It would work better as a series - eight hour long episodes. The novel is fucking massive
Agreed, but can we please have adaptations of King novels that haven’t been adapted yet like The Long Walk
I agree. Its actually one of my fav King novels and a 2 hr movie could never do it justice. When you're dealing with the destruction of a small town, you need time to get to know the town and all its characters.
@@ericcartman7361 I love that story. Darrabondt has been teasing that forever. I would love a miniseries about that.
@@mattjones7226 its getting a movie by Frances Lawrence, The Hunger Games director. Hope they cast Thomas Jane as The Major
I want to see The Regulators get adapted.
This remake has no Soul.
Like a Vampire 😂
Very Clever
Fact.😅
I see what you did there 😂
You wouldn’t know that, it is unreleased!!!! You were in one of the e THREE screenings, yeah?
I used to be a huge King fan. But he's turned into a joke who suffers form a terminal case of TDS.
I never thought that he was that good. Trick 'r Treat is far better than anything he has ever done. The Simpsons eps where SK steals H. Simpson's idea and they automatically give him a bag of Money no matter how crap it is.
His plots are basic. But he writes fantastic characters and dialog.
But that doesn't translate well to horror movies. But is great for dramas, which is why his best movie adaptations are his dramas like Shawshank Redemption or Stand by Me.
And why the only horror movies that did well are heavily character based like 1408 or The Shining. When it becomes about a spooky monster his movie adaptations become very generic very quickly.
he hated Kubricks version of The Shining, so you know that Kubrick did it right
@@karenpojar2514 Green Mile and the Dead Zone are really good IMO too. So is The Running Man novel, which I believe is being remade by Edgar Wright, and with a remit to follow the book more closely.
This sucks. When I was a young boy back in the early eighties this was my favorite horror movie. My mom says I called it “the blue monster movie”. One of my favorite movies of all time. Definitely my favorite version of Mr Barlow. The 2004 remake was good but Barlow was closer to novel version. FUCKING BLUE MONSTER MOVIE!!!
My sister called the thing from (50s version I believe) the carrot man and the blob - blob o’jelly lol. Our father had us watch got us into old school movies
All I want for brand new rated R vampire movie is. Elizabeth Bathory The Blood Countess and it's directed by Guillermo Del Toro and the infamous historic figure/monster is performed by Hayley Atwell. But first if they are going to make a movie like that. The director, the movie crew, and the actresses have to go to the country of Hungary to make and shot the movie. Now I'm not saying that the movie will happen right away. I'm just saying that this is my wish for a brand new vampire movie.
Him or Eli Roth.
I prefer Guillermo Del Toro because he has the experience and has been directing for a very long time since the 90s. Eli Roth in my opinion isn't that good of a director as most of his movies mostly consists of extreme amount of gore with no story/lore at all. The Hostel movies and the Cabin Fever movies are great examples. Sure Guillermo Del Toro does matured movies but he puts story/lore first matured stuff later.
Mm. I feel you on Del Toro, but not sure I see Atwell for the role. And I quite like her! Just don’t know if she could have the calm yet psycho element I think it needs.
Yes!! This is the vampire movie I'd love to see too.

Stop, stop, stop the remakes!
And so say all of us !!!🏴
Every single Stephen King remake has been complete trash. Every single one except 2017's IT which was a great film even though I liked Curry's Pennywise better than Skarrsgard's. The last two King remakes, Pet Sematary and Firestarter were laughable. When are they gonna learn that remakes just don't work?
Gay Vampires time.
Gay vampires…he commands it! Lmao
Pls no remake of twilight. Lol
Trans vampires. Trans-pires?!
Fangs ain’t what they used to be 😝
😂😂😂
I'm unclear why everyone keeps saying it should have been done into another mini-series. They took 'It', and had no problem remaking that (from what was a miniseries) into a fully realized, more faithful adaption of the book, (and doing a pretty damn good job of doing it.) Salem's lot, the novel, while lengthy, is still substantially shorter than 'It'. ( Salem's lot, the novel, comes in at around 600 pages. 'It', I believe, is around 1100 pages, so you figure they divided that book for the remake into 2 films), so maybe, yeah, done appropriately and faithfully, the Salem's Lot remake would have had to have been like 2 and 1/2 hours, but it certainly could have been done. There definitely would have been a fancore audience for it, and it would have had more of a faithful adaption to it as a remake than what the original '79 mini series was, ( and yes, I'm definitely a fan of the '79 miniseries, but... that version took liberties,... and left out a lot of key cool components of the novel, and as of now, is dated and we're ready for a faithful remake.) That's just the way it is. If ''It' warranted a remake, so does Salem Lot, so it shouldn't have been such a beguiling task, whatsoever. It, unfortunately, sounds like a case of what we've heard; too many hands in the pie and too many opinions and thus seemingly resulting in a leaner, faster-paced version which then just defeated the whole point of remaking a faithful adaptation.
If you want a modern remake of the Salem's Lot mini-series, then just watch Midnight Mass
Great point, totally loved that series.
I can only imagine how they shitted up this classic.
I bet mr.barlow is now ............a woman....a bald 1 at that 😂
The world doesn't need a salem's lot remake!
what's it to you? don't want to watch then don't
Nope. Salem's Lot needs a good Adaptation for once. 79 flick wasn't. The 04 TNT series wasn't either. And Dauberman's won't be as well.
@@justasoulsfan9805 2014 Series was good.
@@Marty2011uk the 2004 Version bit off more than it could chew. Modernising the setting was a double edged sword. However I respect the TNT 2004 adaptation in the sense that it at least tried to adapt Salem's Lot and convey what the story was about. Although I think Rutger Hauer was miscast as Barlow. Sutherland as Straker as well. Then again, the vampire children in the bus scene was very good.
The 1979 film is dated. It has atmosphere, but thats about it. I grew up on this version, but I completely see where Tarantino was coming from when he wrote in Cinema Speculation that it bored him. He saw it when he was older & had high expectations. Had he seen it when it came out he probably would have enjoyed it.
Nice haircut bud, and I totally agree with you on Stephen King. Wow that guy has fallen.
His asinine political takes ruined him. He's lost most of his fans at this point.
@@freezetasticvoyage19His unhinged TDS alone is bizarre and cult like at this point.
@@SarcasticPlotRecaps Yeah, he claims President Trump is a madman by ranting like a madman about President Trump! Zero self-awareness!!
How fucking hard is it to make Salon's Lot? I read that book when I was 8, it's a great, classic vampire story, a modern version of Dracula, and it scared the hell out of me. How do you mess that up?
This needs a Netflix type miniseries to really flesh out the story completely. I've always thought that Mike Flanagan should have gotten it.
Midnight Mass was almost an unofficial 'adaption' treading similar ground.
Flanagan's working on Life of Chuck at the moment which with his track record should be spectacular. I read that story four years ago and loved the haunted house scene. Made me think of the Marsten House. LOL
The book is one of Stephen King’s very best and the original TV film is a classic.
Remember watching the the David Soul version when i was a kid ......scared me shitless
Remakes, reboots, sequels and prequels, had Hollywood got no new ideas or talent anymore, all they seem to be capable of is serving up lukewarm garbage, the sooner Hollywood goes out of business the better.
I like King's stories but the man himself is unbearable. The factor the man was chased off the set of Carrie and The Shining, his wife caught drugs/addictive "substances" in a trash can and directed Maximum Overdrive (on said substances) is filled with hypocrisy.
Another example of his hypocrisy is his non stop whining about Kubrick "ruining" his characters in The Shining (which were zero dimensional card board cut out cliches to begin with), yet he wrote an X-Files episode (still filled with his cliches) which had Mulder & Scully were completely off. Chris Carter had to re-write it, & King had a childish temper tantrum about it. He thinks its okay to ruin other peoples creations, but still cries about Kubrick. He thinks he can go into other peoples productions & take full control over it.
He is a massive narcissist. He can't stand how Kubrick's The Shining is considered a classic film so he still has to take shots at it 40 years later.
Stevie liked his blow 😅
I worked on this movie as a stand in, I'm really hoping it comes out because some of the stunt scenes were cool
So was it as bad as they say?? Was the story tonally jarring etc? What can you tell us already lol
The Hooper version scared me so much as a kid, but its fairly dated now. The window scenes, which are the scariest, are over done & used too many times. The Barlow Vampire, while scary as a kid, is cheesy now because its just a blue Nosferatu rip off. It also didn't help that around the same time, Werner Herzog remade Nosferatu.
Apparently, in this new version, Barlow is once again a Nosferatu rip off, & Robert Eggers is doing his own version, so that makes it even worse.
Stephen King saying the film is good is also another reason why it is likely crap. He has zero clue on what makes good cinema. Sure, he has praised good films before, but he has also frequently stated he understands cinema & filmmaking more than Stanley Kubrick. Everything he has been involved with creatively is garbage. Nobody should listen to what he has to say about films, because he is completely ignorant, even though he claims he is a genius when it comes to cinema.
I totally agree with you. King may know how to write fiction but his taste in films leaves something to be desired. The one exception is the 1994 adaption of The Stand. I beleive he wrote the screenplay for that. That's the only good work that he's ever been involved in.
Tell ya what then .........turn the series on ,while in the dark n on headphones.n make sure your in bed...........n see if ya don't get scared, like ya did watching as a kid .......... because I guarantee ya will.
Salem's lot is a bit boring at times but the sinister n creepy parts are brilliant for the time n ye been ripped off by so many it's sad to ruin a classic 🇮🇪
That sucks. I’m a big fan of the novel. For now I think they should focus on adapting non adapted king books or other horror authors. Impatiently waiting for Ben Stillers Stephen King movie Rat and The Long Walk
It's still coming out and listen to Kingdom Movie Channel update, he got his info from a WB source.
IMHO it's not something that needed a modern adaption. The original with David Soul was spooky enough. If you lived on the ground floor like I did as a kid that window scratching stayed with you. What I would welcome is a 13 episode series of Cycle of the Werewolf aka Silver Bullet. Now that's something that could be brilliant.
I would rather have a good adaptation of the book. And the 79 version had like 3 good scenes. The rest was a messy snoozefest that failed to capture the essence of the novel.
@@justasoulsfan9805 It has atmosphere, but it is dated. The window scenes were creepy, but they relied too much on that gimmick & repeated them. The Nosferatu rip off for Barlow ages it poorly. Werner Herzog remade the Murnau film around the same time, so it just made that decision bad, even at the time.
NOTHING can live up to the '79 mini-series with David Soul and the unforgettable James Mason as Straker, plus Lew Ayres, and several other top-notch character actors, like the ubiquitous film noir veteran Elisha Cook, Jr. (who starred in "The Big Sleep," "The Maltese Falcon," "Rosemary's Baby," and God knows how many other films!) as Weasel Phillips. By one of the great horror directors as well. As for Stephen King, "Lot," along with "Carrie" and "The Shining,"--his first three novels, are arguably his best books, aside from some later outliers. His book "On Writing" is OK as a craft book/memoir as well, but he's a figure of fun now, spouting irrelevant political opinions on social media about issues he knows nothing about. He's got King Solomon's Mines in his wallet, and is one of the most insufferable "celebrities" operating today, who seems to have made selling book blurbs a side hustle, probably without reading the book. Example: he provided a cover blurb for the "horror" novel "The Ruins" by Scott Smith making the idiotic claim that it was the "greatest horror novel of the new century," or something to that effect. Book came out in the mid-2000s, so making a bold claim like that doesn't say much for his marketing acumen--not much faith in his future list! A real dope!
Love the Robe Lowe TNT version. That was fantastic!
Really I thought it crap. Lowe was awful in the role. Vampires are cannibals. Badly miscast Sutherland.
@@matthewburrows4359at least it didn't have the laughable blue smurf vampire 😂
It was so bad it’s laughable
I loved the book scarey as fuck always wanted a modern update just a pity there's no one with the vision or imagination to make it worthy what is going n with studios these days everything they need is right there...
Turns out they have actually done work to stop it looking like a mess. It will hit cinemas across the UK October 11th. Yep, it’s getting a theatrical release now
Just watch Midnight Mass, it’s heavily inspired by Salems lot, essentially the true successor to the original.
Honestly, call it sacrilege, but I think Midnight Mass is better than Salems Lot. I have no nostalgia for the original and I watched it recently. While the ideas/story holds up, I don’t think it’s good.
@@joshdea7 not gonna argue with that. I’ve never been huge on the original, although I loved the book
Yes that was amazing
@@joshdea7 Midnight Mass is better than all movie adaptations of Salem's Lot. The book however, is peak. It literally is the go to of any vampire invasion literature. Second only to Matheson's "I am Legend". Without Salem's Lot, we wouldn't have stories like They Thirst, 30 Days of Night, Fright Night, In the Blood, Midnight Mass (both the Paul F. Wilson book and the Mike Flanagan Netflix series, both are unrelated though).
@@justasoulsfan9805 interesting. I’ve read I am Legend, never read Salem’s Lot
The two versions out there are more than good enough, the David Soul and Rob Lowe versions tell the story nicely.
Totally agree.
It didn't need to be remade, but if you're going to do it then keep it a mini-series type format. Also, I own both the 79 and the 04 versions. Love them both but probably prefer the 04 one
The original was ace. There is no reason for a remake.
Maybe a reason for a Sequel, but not for a remake. The original is one of Kings Best Book to Screen adaptations ever made.
Whatever though- Play Stupid games, Win Stupid Prizes!
dammit- they already did the the television mini-series and NOTHING is better than the original.i'm so tired of reboots and sequels and remakes and REIMAGINED "live-action" films! i hate hollywood now.i don't look forward to hardly anything studios are putting out.
The original novel written by Stephen King is miles better than the 79 series ever will be. The same applies to the 04 Remake and the Dauberman Remake.
The "original" is the novel. Just because it was adapted into a TV two-parter doesn't mean ut can't be adapted again. The problem seems to be the conflict between those wanting to do an adaptation of the novel and those wanting to remake the TV movie.
Given what Doberman wanted and what Wan wanted it does sound like the director and producer clashed really badly and Warner Bros had to step in and fix it as best they could. I would be interested in how this films production coincided with Aquaman 2's production which took such a toll on Wan that maybe he was still suffering ill effects that bled into this film. Because it's Salem's Lkt a fairly traditional vampire story but hearing that ending made me go something happened along way where Wan forgot this is a horror film.
''Salem's Lot', of all Stephen King's novels, ought to be the easiest to adapt: it's the least 'deep' and it has an extremely linear plot. The only reason an adaptation could be difficult is if the filmmakers want to change it in some way. Even if they wanted to blend in a few references to the original miniseries, that ought to work. Me? I'd open the film by adapting the short story 'One for the Road', pre-credits, then jump back several years and do a straightforward retelling of the novel. You could even blend a bit of the short story 'Jerusalem's Lot' into the tale. The through line is 'How the town died.' You acknowledge it and make it as tragic and eerie as possible. Ridiculous that it's been adapted three times and only the first has had any real impact!!
that movie didnt need a remake wth dumb lazy Hollywood
Salem’s shot

I LOVE the original . I bought it on Google TV , and that muthaf@cking Barlowe( Barlow? ), STILL scares me . I'm 55 years old , and I STILL have to watch it with the lights on .😊
Mr H what ARE you doing? I truly am not trying to cause an issue as I enjoy a lot of your work but the comments on King were over the top. 1. Had he. It written the book there's nothing for you to discuss. 2. He is entitled to his opinion as are you...but he's actually seen it. 3. Your opinions on how King should be thought of as a whore and "tit" had. Nothing to do with the film and it was being mean for mean's sake. If you dislike King then that's fine. We all have things we dislike...but this came off as a very personal attack and it undercuts the observations you were making. --- Again I think you have a great page and I enjoy your work. Just didn't get the King hatred. I am no one really just saying what I saw. Keep up your excellent work. I will keep watching.

I still want to see it, always loved the story, at least we have midnight mass to make up for it
Stephen "sewer scene" King
Stephen King: the genius who hated Kubrick's "The Shining" and directed the masterpiece "Maximum Overdrive"
Yeah that’s a bizarre piece of extravaganza up there. From a sophisticated guy like S King you would expect much more subtlety on this one subject. Or perhaps he’s not that sophisticated after all or The Shining was a flop when it came out so bashing it was in vogue. But why persist with this take when it became a classic years later? I wonder what’s the matter. As a person himself being inspired by other creators’ works King should be more understandable of creators taking liberties with stuff. I don’t get it
@@andreyzhuchkov1882 Kubrick's _The Shining_ wasn't a flop as it was able to turn a profit upon its release. It just fell well short of another 1980 film by the name of “Empire Strikes Back” which perhaps isn't the best guide to measure it by.
@@SmartCookie2022 that's interesting to note. And going back to creators taking liberties with sources and not making a literal adaptation. One of the modern ways of taking liberties with source material is modernizing for modern audiences. And while it could take a form of injecting agendas and it could also be rather creative as well. And example would be, and a pretty meta example at that, of trying to modernize Lex Luthor for current era -- creating a projection of sorts of M Zuckerberg onto popular consciousness, and it's funny that was an actor playing earlier Zuckerberg in quite momentous a film itself which is very fascinating that they pulled it off after all. And now going back to Kubrik obviously he didnt' do that, he just created almost a different piece of fiction, wasn't tryiing to modernize or anything, the result being quite fascinating as well. I wonder whats up with Mister King
They gave the guy who did The Nun. Annabelle and The curse of La Llorona the rights to make one of the best Vampire stories in existence.
How can anyone be surprised it turned out this way?
What a shame... I was looking forward to this... Man they can't get good vampire films down at all the trouble with Blade and this film... I guess Abigail was okay.
I used to love reading SK interviews back in the day but modern social media really hasn't done him any favours ......and just makes him sound like a self-deluded guy who is out of touch.....while ranting from his gothic bell tower.
I was excited for a Salem’s Lot remake of it was done decently- but I have no hopes for this now. It’s a shame too cuz vampire films are starting to make a comeback. Also Stephen King is washed at this point.
Well, we got Abigail this year. And Robert Eggers Remakes Nosferatu which comes out this December.
@@justasoulsfan9805 Barlow in this new version was supposed to be another Nosferatu rip off, so that would just make it even worse with Eggers remake.

My friends worked on this 4 years ago.. crazy
It works better as a mini series, they have 10 episodes to tell the story!
The original Salems' Lot was the first horror film I ever watched, and I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I won't watch this remake though. It's probably bollocks.
As a horror fan all my life (born oct 31st 1985) the 1 film that scared the absolute fuck outta me as a child was 1979 Salems Lot. Barlow was the scariest thing ever. As i got older, The Exorcist is, and still is the scariest film ever but PLS PLS dont make a mess of Salems Lot. I love it😊
This is a pretty straightforward movie to make. No excuse for garbage. Let it breath, take it slow and it would be amazing. I also agree with the comment about doing it as a 8 x 1 hr. series.
Tobe Hooper had the magic touch. I wish his version lasted an extra hour so we could get the vampire school bus scene.
The last one was a disaster of its own kind......it should be an easy adaption essentially being a clever modern re-telling of Dracula where the villain goes further and actually manages to 'convert' a whole town.
Damn what’s this guy’s beef with Stephen King?
The Tobe Hooper version & the novel are all we need.
The first one terrified me as a teenager. James Mason was fantastic.
Unsalvageable? Keep the faith, bro!!! I've heard it's pretty good!!! Obviously, Dauberman being Dauberman, there are some plot twists and changes from the source material, and some so-called jump-scares, but pretty good, I've heard!!!! 🙂🙏🙏🙏🙏
The orginal still holds up great. And if this remake was any good it would have been out in 2024 imo
When it comes to Warner Bros., I am not shocked in the slightest about studio interference. They are well known for screwing with things and making them incomprehenisble.
I was divided at the prospect of a new Salem's Lot film, especially after Tobe Hooper's passing and the fact that his TV adaptation is my favorite TV movie - now this only confirms my desire not to see the new version!
The 2004 Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Andre Braughe, James Cromwell, Samantha Mathis version was pretty good.
I still want to see it because I love Salem's Lot even the 90s mini series with Rob Lowe. The Book and the original series film cannot be beat.
Wouldn't that make every author a pimp?
He has also said that in interviews, he doesn't care if a book adaptation is good or not.
I bought pet sematary bloodlines last week.
Should've saved myself the money. That's why i won't be buying a salems lot remake.
I've got the original, so I'll just rewatch that, lol.
I hear they're remaking the running man, but it's supposedly closer to the book, and not the Arnold movie.

I will say it’s such a good film, had it have landed in the right hands with decent cast it had potential to be amazing and unforgettable.
I doubt that a remake would be able to terrify me the way the original did.

Now Mr H don't you think you were a lil mean bashing Stephen King like that ?😂🧐
Like most horror moives and shows made in the 70s and 80s you can't recapture that "gritty" feel they have. Modern horror is way too pristine and glossy in appearance and execution
Salem's rot.
This Gary Douberrman guy rode off a success of IT which he rewrote but did not write the base sxript. It was Fukunaga.
Then he directed one of the worst theatrically released horror films Annabel 3.
How did he get to make this film is beyond me.
Bummer, fan of the other adaptations. Even the Rob Lowe one I enjoyed. There’s a couple of short stories that have also been adapted, though the “One For the Road “ I think has only had amateur productions you can find on RUclips. I think a proper miniseries handled by the right people not bent on the message could do it. A single movie would have to edit out a lot of stuff that helps world build a whole town being decimated. Can’t flesh out characters.
While I would love a proper Lot adaptation, I think they should focus on adapting non adapted King novels. Ben Stiller is set to do an adaptation of Kings Rat and The Long Walk is in progress of getting a movie
