There are so many Asian Americans that have sincere love for the US and what the governmnet has given to them. They appreciate it. I am an Asian immigrant myself and I had a hard time getting US citizenship. I tried so hard to get it for the better opportunity but still failed so many times. Very complicating process. Ever since I got the green card, My appreciation towards US for accepting me as a member of their society has been sincere. However she is given that opportunity when she was born and grew up in the states and studied here treated as an American. Now she thinks choosing nationality is some kind of joke. If she stays in the China and when she visits in the States if she is treated as same as any 'foreigners' then It is okay.
I would love to get dual citizenship for my daughter, who is Chinese-Western, like Gu Eileen. But this is impossible. Much as we are obviously rooting for her, something about the ease with which she can switch between both countries stings. Compete for China, make $30 million, then enroll in a US university, enjoying all the benefits of both countries. Good for her, go girl, but meanwhile we can't be legal inhabitants in both countries and we struggle with visa every year.
The point of the Olympics was that each country send your best to compete for medals and prestige. The practice of shopping around the world for athletes to compete for you instead of using a homegrown athlete, should be ended. It all comes down to greed and how many medals you get, rather than national pride.

中文流利不是会不会说绕口令吧 对于在国外长大的孩子 生活用语可能还OK 但读写才是太问题
做为美国成长的华裔已经不容易了，有些象她这种背景的说得不流利，或者带着口音，有些甚至不会说。当然她跟着长辈（外婆）生活，天天说京腔普通话，不过有些这种孩子一旦长辈久了，就回头说英语，把所谓的母语（家里说的第一语言）丢了，在美国看了太多例子。
她每年暑假回北京，还是上補习课，应该会些读写，当然程度有限，毕竟受的是美国（英文）教育。
我是正好相反中文说的并不流利 , 反而读的比较流利. 老爸是武侠迷 "飞雪连天射白鹿，笑书神侠倚碧鸳" 在书架上全套的金庸的 , 古龙的 , 梁羽生的 , 每一部我都读过十几遍.
节目在评价一个母语是中文的人说中文的水平如何。
