Hands up if you were never turned on by the idea of a tele to begin with, but when you bought your first one, realised they're the best guitars in the world!

Steve Bell my first tele is going to be a fender customshop journeyman 1952 black finish or a fender customshop journeyman 1963 candy apple red finish can’t deside between the 2 beauty’s gonna compare the 2 to what i like the most of it so cant wait 👌🏻

Steve Bell. Bingo. I have and have had quite a few guitars in my time and always considered a tele to be a limited guitar. I just never really played one. But I bought a 2003 American Standard, same colour as this guy is playing. Basically just to round out the main three of the holy trinity (strat tele and LP) My collection now along with the tele is a 95 Gibson Nighthawk, an Elite Strat, a 72 strat, and a 2019 LP Standard. My bro asked me...If your house was on fire and you could only grab one guitar, which would it be? It would be the tele! I cant believe what a great axe it is. I can play anything from country to ACDC on it. I love that thing! Who knew?

This is one of the best demonstrations showcasing the differences between all of these amps. There are no looser or winners here as with everything being equal, it's all subjective. Also, if I may add, it's one of the reasons I have a small stable of ten different tube amplifiers in my collection. As well as cabinets, effects, drive pedals, and the list goes on and on. Same with guitars as well. One of each just won't do! Great video.

My buddy has the Cube and loves it, plays it more than his other amps and he has a Peavey Classic 30 and other valve combos. I have the Supro Black Magick so I'm biased lol. I also have a Katana and that's based on the same Tone Logic circuitry that's in the Cube, I like it a lot and there's a huge community for both Katana and Cube users. So you're definitely not a fool my friend, if anything you're ahead of the curve lol.

@@javiceres The Supro is a damn fine amp and it sounded good with all my guitars but it seemed to really like my LP. I ended up selling it and the Katana though and got a EVH 5153 50W that I run through a Marshall 4x12. I've been on a 80's kick and just today I ordered a Charvel DK24 Pro Mod, the Satin Burgundy Mist one with the white Duncans. As far as combo amps go I think my all time favorite is my Yamaha THR10X. I can take it from room to room easily or anywhere else, plus it's a great interface. You can record the dry signal along with the wet and afterwards I use AmpliTube 4 on the dry track and try a few dozen amps and settings on it. Such a fun little amp, I highly recommend it. Plus as soon as you get one you'll notice that damn near every guitar RUclipsr owns one and you'll start seeing them all over the place in their videos lol.

THANK YOU for the great effort to produce these videos. Very, very helpful :-)
My favorites are the Peavey Classic and the 3 Monkeys, the Vox AC15 is a real disappointment. The Supro BM was also quite a positive surprise for me. This amp has a great character (and works great in a band context) - not for me but for other players (styles) it might be the winner.

    @lance134679 8 лет назад +1

That tele is very bright. Some amps handled better than others for sure. The Three Monkeys, the Marshall, the Supro and the Bassbreaker seemed to deal with it the best, in my opinion. The Supro was really noisy with lots of buzz. Of course, if one were allowed to change the EQ, one could probably compensate. Really the best situation would be to have them all at your disposal. Great video series. It's nice to hear all these amps together in one video.

What a great series of demos. The Marshall and 3 Monkeys really stood out, but the prices for those make them unrealistic. The Supro was amazing in all the demos as were the Bassbreaker, Peavey and surprisingly the Roland. The others had their moments but were not as consistent and the differences on the different guitars was eye opening. I hated the Brugera and Dr. Z but I could see where they would shine in the hands of Johnny Marr type player.

  • @hubbydad1322
    @hubbydad1322 2 года назад

Sounded great overall. The only thing I observed that may skew the results a little was your mic placement. For some of the amps it looked like you placed the mic directly in the center of the cone, and for others it was a little offset, and for some others it was quite a bit offset. The mic placement relative to the center of the cone records more bass or more treble depending. So, some amps may sound thinner if the mic is in the center and others more bottom end if way off to the side of the cone.

Hey Johan, I recently bought a Weber Mass 100 after you demo'd it (I love it). When I ordered it I just went flat out and got the balanced output option not really knowing what it was about, think you could give me a rundown of what exactly I can do with the balanced out on my attenuator.

+John Doe Hi, I guess it's the line out. Mine is marked out with "line out". Sometimes it can sound cool to blend the line out with the miked cab, but by itself it sound very harsh I think. Cheers Johan

    1. Supro
    2. 3Monkeys
    3. Marshall
    4.Dr. Z
All things guitar related are purely subjective and my opinion might be different if I were there playing and adjusting the settings for my taste. I've watched all 3 videos and have a few thoughts.
    1. 3Monkeys - It sounded the best in each vide, with all 3 guitars.
    2. Supro - This was my favorite.
    3. Dr. Z - Sounded better with the Fender guitars.
    4. Marshall - That's just a super cool amp!
See the comment section of the other videos for my top 4 rating for each video.

    Really enjoyed:
    1. 3 Monkey - Nice saturation, all around very musical, this chubby kid can run fast, hit hard and doesn't care what people think. You want him on your team.
    2. Marshall(surprised!) - Nice punchy, great overtones, classic gentleman. Kind of amp that talks and tells you what to play, even when you don't realize it. Doesn't matter he's always right
    3. Bassbreaker - Punchy, rounded, warm with just enough highs. Humble fellow, not fond of bragging, but works hard and always gets the job done right. Always reliable
    4. Orange - Love that british low mids with a pleasant fiz and aggression. Skater kid, not afraid to break the law. Nothing can stop him
    Okay:
    5. Supro - Cool chiminess, wish it sounded a little more open(New tubes? Mic Placement?) Tall, slick fellow who wears shades and drives his Thunderbird at 72mph.
    6. Koch - Kinda cool fiz, doesn't not the deepest or sparkliest, but still 3 dimensional. Cheerful chap, self motivated, knows his place, but isn't afraid to speak his mind.
    7. Engl - Not in love by its self, but it would sit in a mix very well(little nosey). The friend you call when everyone else is busy. Not bad company.
    8. Peavey - Your chime and punch make me hungry for more of it(which you don't happen to be giving me). He's got great personality, he's just shy....give him time, you might really get to know him.
    Meh:
    9. Roland - Muffed, unfocused, not completely awful. Initially feels good to be around. Tries to be warm and energetic, but doesn't communicate very clear. Not good with long term relationships
    10. Dr. Z - Almost cool mids, but I feel like you are stuck in a box. Drives a 90s mid level convertible sports car. Think Uncle Rico.
    11. Bugera - Feisty kid, loves to insult people to their faces. Very colorful vocabulary. Unfortunately he needs to do a few push ups or eat a cheese burger so he can put his money where his mouth is.
    12. Vox - Has a rich and famous parent. He has a little bit of their charisma, seems motivated but its fake. It sucks living in their shadow. Some girls fall for him, others think he's the annoying rich kid.
    Disclaimer:
Take no insult. My commentary is based off of this specific sound clip. It seems Johan is capturing a straight forward sound from these amps to give us a general idea of what these amps are. Not necessarily trying to get tweak crazy.
    Realistically:
    12. Vox - Use the top boost channel. Cut the tone, boost the Treble. Mic slightly off the cone. This amp can sound wonderful. Switching to a Celestion Blue and swapping tubes can work wonders too. I've gigged this amp many times and got many lovely tones out of it.
    11. Never used a Bugera, I think the axis of the mic can drastically improve the tone and get well into JCM800 world. Honestly, it is a very useable tone in a mix
    10. I owned a Dr. Z. It sounded very boxy. I do think a little more highs or a different set of tubes may do the trick.
    9. The Roland could be nice for layering guitars. A little more presence(crystal highs) or even a compressor might make it pop more. (I might swap tubes or speakers)
    8. I like the spankiness of it. It's 85% there. Wether tubes, a Graphic EQ or Tubescreamer or a little more treble, I see potential for getting this nice and chewy.
    7. Never really spent time with an Engl. I feel like this amp bridges a gap for a modern rock rhythm player, but with just enough vintage vibe.
    6. Never used a Koch. I can imagine making a record with two rhythm guitars panned in stereo, Koch would be nice paired with a brighter cleaner amp.
    5. Supros are sweet. This sounds great. I think they have an incredible ability to sound just a slight bit more open(it's my preference), there is nothing wrong with this tone.
    4. Orange isn't the sound for every occasion, but man, I love that chugginess!
    3. I may like the Supro and the Orange more than the Fender, but I can see the Fender having by far the most flexibility and being useful at basically any gig.
    2. The Marshall has an incredible tonal spectrum, although I feel like the Bass could be turned up a bit more. Just musical. Just reminded why it's the King.
    1. The 3 Monkey isn't really for every occasion, but it has it's own unique voice, personality and just speaks. It's the kind of amp that can totally dictate your playing style and make you play things you'd never think of.
