The now exposed bare metal will rust in short order and begin producing rust streaks down your tailgate. Masking off and painting the hinge recesses before installation with locktite would have been a good idea.
Lots of questions on the lugs... For anyone new watching the video, you can also use an oversized nut as a spacer and then use a proper sized nut on the lug bolt to pull the bolts through. The Teraflex created video shows this, but I actually prefer the NEWERE video for the rest of the install
Great install video. easy to understand and follow. Thanks so much for taking your time to do the video and voiceover the right way. Great content and tutorial. Mine is en route from Northridge 4x4. Great Black Friday price (for this very pricey, well made [from reviews on may differ HD tire carrier options. TERAFLEX is by far above and beyond] Thanks so much for the video. Stay Motivated Mike
Excellent tutorial. Be careful with the torx bolts. I snapped the head off of one pretty easily. Wasn't using a torque wrench, but it felt like no more than 40 foot pounds.
+Brandon Craft (CraftMath) The TeraFlex HD hinged carrier is doing great! Feels just as solid as the day I installed it. I really enjoy opening the tire carrier and tailgate with one hand instead of two separate motions.
+radbcc This product ups the capacity of the spare tire mount in weight of tire and accessories along with the ability to adjust for many tire and rim sizes. Plus it adds the mounting ability for other accessories.
Been seeing some comments on forums where guys say that this carrier cracks over time. Have you heard anything about that or do any research before you bought this? I've been really interested in this carrier for awhile now.
I just got a set of 35s and was looking for something that wasn't too expensive but held up good. How do you like it ? and would you recommend getting just the hinge or should i get the adjustable mount?
+Joe Smith The Hinge will address any additional weight concern. An adjustable mount is recommended for a proper snug fit if your rim has changed and has a different backspacing or offset
Aaron M there are many separate carriers. You'll just need to go with a camera/carrier that you can add your own mount. Many cameras can mount to the license plate frame. I'd suggest just moving the plate mount to the center of your spare tire and mount your camera there on the plate/spare.
Nice video. It looks like the hole for the bump stop on the passenger side was just covered by the closed hinge carrier. Does TF include a flush mount rubber plug to cover the hole. I know not that big of a deal but water can run down between the hinge and the tailgate and enter that opening. Any thoughts?
Been watching JK tire carrier installs for the last week. This was by far the best put together and informative one. Great job!
Thank you for the comment. 😊
mine has been on for 2 years now and love it . no rattles or movement or noise of any kind with my 35 in tires and easy install

Many Thanks for this video!
I just finished my install with your video beside me on my Ipad and would not
have attempted it without your guidance.

Perfect timing! The ups guy just dropped this off today!
Jesse Whaley Sweet!

Thanks for the heads up
Well the torque specs for the torx bolts are only 19 ft-lbs!!!!! The rest are only 15!
Thanks for a great, straight to the point install video! Mine just arrived today. I plan on using this as a guide tomorrow. How is your's holding up?

+NEWEREJK Thanks for the quick reply. Since I don't have a press, I think I'll be whacking at the lug bolts just as you did for the press fit.
Do these tire carriers stop the rattle noise? My rattle is getting out of control, thank you.
Great directions, well laid out. but, what advantages does this have over the factory install product? I did not see video of the advantages? thanks

Is there a kind of hinged carrier that is separate from the tailgate and would allow for a backup camera to be installed?

Thanks for the video I always wondering if they stock carrier would fit

yes it does
How in the hell did you get those lug nut bolts to go into the hole with just a hammer?
I don’t have the provided bolts, will the factory bolts work ?
I’m unsure about that. Teraflex has great customer service if you call them I’m sure they can help out.
hi, have you verified if the factory bolts can be still used?
BTW, great install videos!
Good video. Even better than Terraflex's actually (and 10x better than their included crappy ass written instructions, WHICH ARE WRONG).
Any word on if this is strong enough to take the 37" tire? Like, does it bend the metal out like the normal tire carrier will?
+Cameron Ivanbeckandorfin We have run 38's and 40's on this thing without problems.
what if you get bigger tires can use studs again just hammer them out?
That was a great install video, well done man!
Thanks!
