  • What is more reliable and high quality than products made for the US military? Ok, there's probably a lot, but military surplus prices can't be beat!
    I think this will be the perfect tent for motorcycle camping, packs small, is relatively light weight, and best of all, it's field tested by the US Army!
    This is the Improved Combat Shelter by ORC Industries, made in USA.

    We used the old canvas shelter half. Each soldier carried a 1/2 of a tent. 1 shelter half, 1 guy line, 3 wood pole sections and 5 steel stakes.

    I was lucky enough to buy two of these in new, unissued, condition 7 years ago. I paid $140 a piece. They are bomb proof but don't vent well at all. They are condensation machines. You can leave the door open some but it's not enough. The door on the back side doesn't have mesh so you can't leave it open for ventilation. They are super tough and will just take a beating and any weather you throw at it. No pockets or loops. Blackout material is nice to sleep later. The pegs are crap. The heads come off easily. They also have a funny smell to them even when new

    • @buyitonce
      @buyitonce  9 месяцев назад

      I agree, there is a funny smell!

    • @WeShootBack1776
      @WeShootBack1776 4 месяца назад

      Lol I still have mine that was issued dryer sheets keep the smell down, when rolled up, This tent was my own personal Hilton 😂, it's actually sized as a man and a half, spent 8 months sleeping in this tent , I absolutely love it and the dark room was awesome at getting some rack at say noon in full sun as the tent stays dark.

    The inside of the tent is lined with reflective (mylar) foil. It's not only done to black out the tent (which is kind of useful if you're camping in places like Afghanistan) but also to reduce the tent's thermal signature at night so it won't show up on thermal imaging cameras.
    It was replaced by the Eureka TCOP (which is also a pretty good tent) and the current LiteFighter 1.

    Trace the footprint of the tent on a good piece of tarpaulin or thick plastic to make protection for the bottom of the tent. If it is the same size of your tent it will have less chance of getting wet

    Wow! Dude I was thinking the exact same thing! Holy cow! When you said motorcycle tenting I was like hell yeah lol. Btw I served in the Marine Corps as an infantry grunt and we never slept in a tent during training even in rain. But that's a different story.

    I think tarp tents are better. There's so many different ways to set up a tarp tent making it more versatile and opening up a wider range of terrain you're able to camp in.

    I had to reseal my tent just in case, there are good youtube videos as to how to do this best, I like the Outdoor Gear Review version best. I set it up in the living room to checkit out and do any repairs if necessary. It is a 3-season tent.

    Remember now that the grommets both of them are for your poles not stakes , there on the ORC for height difference, and yes your gear is not to be thrown around your tent , we used our ruck for storage 😂 ,as for hanging a lantern inside it for civi use , you just need a y stick jammed into the ground under your vestibule and you can hang a light on that . These weren't designed for weekend campers .

    • @buyitonce
      @buyitonce  4 месяца назад

      Good to know about the grommets, thanks! Thanks too about how your ruck is for storage, yeah if I imagine if you need to move quickly, you want everything in one place ready to go.

    The US Military have been using the Army Pup Tent for years, as well as having poncho or Lavu tents. Surely you know or realise this?
