As someone who is making small video games, and especially exploration-heavy adventure games and rpgs, I found this very fun and enlightening. I've never heard of Bitsy before now, and now I'm excited to check it out and see what sort of tiny stories I can create. Thank you for showing this off!
Glad you enjoy it! Welcome aboard the Bitsy Hype Train!! Haha
Now thats cute as hell
I think changing color for difrent locations would be really easy way to make them fell diffrent. Like making anor londo yellow.
Hope somone makes full fan game in this format
I don't know that Bitsy would be the best option for making a full fan game. I would probably go with GB Studio or Pixel Game Maker MV for anything larger than this.
@@mapcrow PLEASE! MADE! THE SOCIETY NEEDS THAT MASTER PIECE!
As a fan of this art style, I would feel guilty not to mention Pico-8 in case you aren't aware of their existence. Similar to Bitsy, Pico8 is a "fantasy console for making, sharing and playing tiny games and other computer programs". Huge recommendation if you like the idea of tiny games, or at least exploration of them. Besides that, Im big fan of the channel and Im really looking forward to seeing your progress on the TTRPG, its always insightful to see your design process through words that then extend to mechanics.
I can't feel I fully appreciate well-minded people such as the way you pleasantly present yourself, sharing your truly talented and genuine work. Exchanging your perspective and understanding in a understandable, intelligent way that is worth an ear.
This is an extended message of the following statement that I must stress: you inspire, bring joy, I along many others thank you.
When I was designing the introductory dungeon for my Soulslike TTRPG Runecairn, I did exactly what you do here and adapted the Undead Asylum into a dungeon. It helped me look at how to best ease new players into the system and mechanics. Great job on this video and great work on this game!
Heck yeah!! I think some of the best design out there comes through a close reading of another work. It's a great way to get the juices flowing!
You turned "Look at that cool thing I made" into "Here's what we can learn about dungeon and encounter design by looking at darksouls".
Didn't see that coming.
Probably should have.
It's always useful to expand your horizons! Good job!
Yes! Thank you!
Man, if I'd had you as a teacher in art school, I would've learned so much more and been so much more invested!
11:30 "Embrace the limitations . . ." Yes! The most creative, engaging, and memorable games I've every played, and stories I've read, embrace this philosophy. :)
I'm gonna sharpen my pitchfork...just in case ;{)
Hope you feel better.
I wish I could meet someone as talented to make projects together with..
Heck yeah! In my experience, the best way to meet folks you'd like to collaborate with is to start building some skill and sharing your work!
How about a Banshee for Building Better Monsters? Not enough Irish folklore out there.
Cool! You turned a bloody fast paced high skill action game, to a puzzle "point & click" adventure
Yeah! If/then statements are the core of all video game design, so if you can just parse out what the level design is testing and gating, you can adapt it into a kind of puzzle! Haha
Bitsy looks really fun! Thank you for spotlighting it!
Heck yeah! Give it a go! It's fun!!
This reminds me of old school game maker (pre studio) which started my love for code and game dev.
There are so many cool tools for making cool games now!!
This is so cool. As someone who's into pixel games and dabbling in making their own, it's really cool to see how people design such sweet looking tiny sprites and overcome game engine limitations.
This is so cool
So happy to finally see one of your videos again! love the nostalgic feel of simple games. I hope covid didnt hit you that hard, cant wait for part 2 of TTRPG!!!!
Love this! I spend large chunks of my free time playing with pixel art and game dev, so this is like my dream content!
Great stuff crow, love seeing the variety and your personal touch on projects like this
Tried out the game, it was fun!
this is so cool! i bet your students love you!
This was awesome, I’m gonna consider diving in and breaking it. An asset like this is what I’ve been looking for to get a classic NetHack or Dwarf Fortress feel but more readable so I can share it with my friends.
Heck yeah! It's a really great way to start building skills and sharing projects!!
This is awesome!!!
do more videos like this
Right on! Thanks for the feedback! I was afraid folks wouldn't want stuff like this!!
It is time to *git gud*
It was a matter of time, I suppose.
Nice
Thanks
Looks amazing!!! :D
Thanks! 😄
