I would have loved for them to have faced a respectable OU team during this time. Their main nemesis throughout the years, sucked during the NC years.
94, 95, 97 they faced several good CO teams, Miami, TN and FL. Who else? KSU's Synder wound up with a 5-36 record against top 10 teams.
Fulmer was 8-7 in bowls, and Spurrier was 6-5 in bowls. IE most of the time, with great, cough, teams both sucked when bowl time came around.
Osborn did not find his way at the end, he had the luxury of the stars aligning like they did for Fulmer in 98.

You've heard it a zillion times. Defense wins games.
      * Mi had the #1 defense, Neb #4. plus
      * Mi SOS was 38, Neb 45. Neb played weaker teams and therefore their offensive stats were better.
      * Head to head against CO, Michigan won by 24, Neb by 3. Same against Baylor. MI did not allow a score in either.
      * Neb got the luxury of facing Manning. When it mattered, he didn't. 14-13 in playoffs (60th). 1 TD drive in both super bowls. Manning had 134 yds against Neb, The two games before, A&M had 264, CO had 362 yds. Avg was 189. Manning couldn't even cover the avg. The AP poll got it right and that is hard to say bec what a goober Lloyd Carr was.

      Facts man. They can kill.
1997 Just 1 game I looked at based on the final score.
Leading by 31, Carr pulls Greise out of IN game, and
Leading by 56, Osborne pulls Frost out of Iowa St.
Would 1st string have better stats than second string? Gee stupid, what say you?

@@markstepanekii388 I said 1 game. The OU game is another that I know about, but LOL, all I needed was 1 to create reasonable doubt.
But, it wasn't where the big hand and little hand were on Osborne's watch that mattered, it was the diff in the score. He could have pulled Frost out much earlier and reinserted him if needed.
If you want to go, the Scott needed the reps route, then the same could be said about Greise, right?
Also, there is the issue of start times. In 97 and, most of the games, Ozzy got to start games several hours later than MI.
Sidebar: What do most coaches do if they win the overtime coin toss? They defer bec
they want to see what the other team does.
Ozzy got to see how many points MI and other midwest and east teams were scoring before he thought it safe to let up. Remember, he knew that that most of teams he had played his entire tenure were not respected, so diff in score was his only way to confuse the voters.
Think, Neb95, where blah, blah, blah, "the closest score was 14 pts" cough (over a sorry Cougar team) blah, blah, blah.

Big missed offensive pass interference call at the 11:50 mark of the 3rd quarter on Nebraska. The tight end Jackson clearly pushes #3 Scott out of the way and the referee somehow calls defensive holding on K-State. That would have ended the drive without Nebraska scoring a td and K-State would have gotten the ball back only down 2 touchdowns with plenty of time left in the game

Can you reassess a team's place in history based on events that occured after the team ceased to exist? Absolutely. Yes, Bill Synder was ranked in the top 20 during the times he faced Osborn but his horrible record against all Top 10 teams his entire career (5-36) does not speak to Osborn's greatness in beating KSU, it speaks to how bad Bill Synder was when playing top 10 teams. Another reason the AP got it right and awarded MI the NC for 1997. KSU (under Synder) was a joke when they played top tier teams. Two of those 5 wins came against that ass wipe big lame Bob Stoops. It doesnt matter if they were ranked number 11 when KState played them. Its how you finish in the final rankings. Plus KState almost always showed up in big time games under Snyder.
