No Hank, you don’t talk too much. The attention span of many audience members are maybe a minute or two max, but there’s a lot of folks that want that walkaround and commentary without being too refined. Similar to talking with a neighbor that actually speaks their mind in a considerate way without being a clone. I put together edits around quick visits, a few memories and done, I don’t have the time to edit and voiceover 15 min videos. Keep doing your thing! 🎉
I grew up in Elkhart and left around 96 and hadn't been back until recently about 3 weeks ago. To the left of the JC Penny, that used to be an arcade. To the right of Penny's it was a music store. at the entrance where the pizza place was, to the right of it was a music store called rogers. I'd literally spent about 20 minutes talking about the history of that mall and how it got to be so empty now. They have a few different super old maps of the mall with all of the stores that were there over the past few decades where the information desk is and all anyone has to do is ask to see them and they'll show you!!
Playing catch up on your videos, but seeing this one come up and had to it a watch. The '70s architecture is definitely off the charts and well preserved. Hopefully it can remain at least somewhat with the vague plans. I wouldn't mind visiting myself for Flickr photos, but I have to accept that some properties are just to far out of the way for me to go to. That's why I'm glad to see you and others document them though.
I'm sitting here crying watching this video. I grew up in Elkhart and left im 1980, I remember this mall as a live, vital place, a wonderful place to shop. Before this mall opened there were only Pierre Moran Mall, Easy Shopping Place and, of course, down town to shop. The only one left now is down town and its mostly offices now, where does one go to shop today? What a shame it that all of this is gone. There a time and place for big box stores and on line shopping, but I still like to occasionally go to the mall to shop.
I’m still going through old videos and after hearing random store names I didn’t know existed I would look them up especially if they were specific to whatever state you visited
I've definitely seen this mall before in another video. I remember how it looks and it sucks that it's abandoned. This video is sad but you also made it funny with your comments and your laugh. LOL! The fat lady is singing right now. LOL!🤣😂
ABC Warehouse is an electronics store similar to Circuit City. I visited the HQ when I had my Comcast sales job a decade ago. Also I get where you're coming from with the desert vibe of the mall. Reminds me when I went to Phoenix last year and the buildings downtown were a red/brown mix for the most part. i'd assume it had to do with the material handling the hot temperatures.
I personally like both Concord Malls. The one in this video, in Indiana and also the one in Delaware. If I had to pick, I like the Delaware Concord Mall a bit better, mainly for the floor tiles, the architecture for the 🪴's and the ⛲.
Concord Mall was notable for being the location where WNDU filmed a newscast in October 1995 about an affiliation switch in South Bend where WSJV switched from ABC to Fox. This caused WNBD to sign on as a new ABC affiliate, and this caused WSBT to be stripped of its secondary Fox affiliation it had since the fall of 1994, where it aired NFL games as well as The Simpsons in its regular time slots. The remainder of Fox’s programming that aired on WSBT was aired in late night on weekends.
I did a video of that mall several months ago. I also did a video of the JCPenney, which was having his liquidation sale at that time. When I was there, I could definitely tell it was doomed.
The interior of this mall is aesthetic as f**k. I love it, shame it’s not going to last. I think you talk the perfect amount, when you first started this channel you didn’t speak at all, you’ve come a long way since then. Aces Adventures is a channel that talks to much, the guy’s a chatterbox and constantly begs for money to the point where it gets distracting from the imagery.
Elkhart IN is renowned for its RV industry. This leads to extreme booms and busts. When thr economy is strong, Elkhart is booming. When a recession hits, Elkhart struggles Edit: concord mall is permanently closed. All stores vacated. It will be turned into a warehouse (I talked to the construction guys).
Man, while everyone always shows and credits Enzo’s Pizza they never fan the camera to the opposite side as there was a really nice authentic Hispanic restaurant with my favorite churros and great prices. The children’s play area was also a hit. So much so that we could never get a video like yours before it closed because it would always have kids playing and we didn’t want to look like weirdos taking a video around a play center full of kids. This was definitely a mall near and dear to my fiancée and me. Ben’s Pretzels would have $2 Tuesdays, the Hispanic restaurant would have Taco Tuesday with $1 chicken tacos, Enzo’s also had really good Calzones that were like $5. The Spencer’s in there was always chill being ran by just 1 employee that ways always super welcoming. The Hispanic clothing store my fiancée loved, and we’d usually hit up the Hobby Lobby every week or bi weekly. The Cell Phone Zone in there was also good for finding Android Phone cases that can’t be found at Walmart or Target yet designed for the prepaid Android phones both places sell, but coincidentally don’t sell their phone cases I’d send business to this place in this mall. I don’t think the problem was so much the mall, the area, or the lack of a fountain I think the problem was poor management and upped rent of tenants causing desirable stores to leave the mall and relocate down the street in Goshen where the same stores (like that Spencer’s) still get business in an outdoor strip mall. People are still showing up to these brick and mortar stores and still shopping, but when you cause many of your main stores to leave resulting in shop after shop after shop of empty spaces to finally get to one maybe two stores worth checking out people stop showing and they go to a strip mall where there’s less empty spots and if you aren’t interested in the next handful of stores you can drive to the next shop instead of walking clear to the other end of a deserted mall. As for Elkhart I’ve been going there weekly the past 7-8 years now (originally from South Bend) and while the people of Elkhart all seem to talk about it as if it’s full of crime and ghetto it honestly doesn’t seem even half as bad as South Bend which that city itself is like half as bad as Gary or less. I commonly get stopped by homeless people downtown in South Bend, there’s more wannabe thugs and police sirens are like the theme music. Elkhart seems to have less wannabe gangsters but has more rednecks. Every town has trashy areas and people it’s kinda your call on which you think is worse. Personally it looks like rednecks are more destructive to their own property whereas wannabe gangsters are more destructive to everyone’s property at least from my experiences.
Why do malls like this one have to go away? This one is perfect as is, redevelop something else, and bring in more mom and pop stores to the mall instead.

The amount of child-like joy that washes over me when I see you've uploaded a video is immeasurable. Never stop making videos.

Elkhart's main industry is recreational vehicle manufacturing, which is characterized by constant boom and bust cycles.
I grew up and worked at that mall it will be missed

This place must have been the hot spot in the 80s!

Just love the design of this mall. Enough said.

That parking lot must look like a cracked egg shell from a satellite… we know that’s never getting paved again.. ever!😢
I've taught 4 of my 5 kids to drive in that parking lot as there is never anyone there.
“God bless the mall walkers”
Said the guy, walking around a mall.
One of my favorites!

Great video!
The smell of death hangs heavy
P.S. This is a BEAUTIFUL mall
Epic vid! I like to watch 💯

Alcoholic Beverage Control? Don't quit your day job! LOL🙃😊😅
Nice video 😊
1st. I'm not seeing many businesses in there. It is a wonder JCP is still there?
What am I seeing? JCP outlasted B&BW ?
JCPenny closed in May of this year
