Industrial areas are you best bet for shovels. No guaranteed area unfortunately and depends on map, but the areas which have a lot of garages and industrial buildings are most likely to have them :)

There are plenty of servers out there where basebuilding has been removed. Probably on the non official servers though. I prefer non base building on a day to day play through personally as well.
Yeah I'm not sure building a base on public servers solo is worth it so much. If you are a group it's worth while as more of u to guard the base. Maybe better just stashing loot in decent spots.
im a new player and i dont understand that base thing at all. just yesterday i strolled through forests as i usually do and i found 2 bases, nobody there. looted to my hearts content and left without a scratch. and i thought, "who the hell would be so dumb to basically mark his loot with a huge fort within a forest when they couldjust buryy their stuff individually somewhere secure" . i maybe am missing something but i dont get it
I have a question or two. 1) I finally found a barrel and I literally carried it halfway across the map to the spot I intend to hide it at. It said the barrel was "badly damaged" though. Will it being in the water further degrade the barrel? If so is there any way to repair it? 2) Does it reset every time I open the barrel or is it one of those things that I have to pick it up and place it down again for the 45 day timer to reset? Yeah, I have a question in the same area of "damaged storage" for instance, I recently found a drybag backpack. I stuffed it full, carried it to the spot I wanted to bury it and got out the old shovel... But It didn't give me the prompt to bury it. I tried a few things like re positioning it and even taking it to a whole new spot but it still couldn't be buried. It does say that it is "damaged" though. Light green almost yellow, not "ruined" or even badly damaged. I'm thinking it's the server I'm on which needs to reset itself, or perhaps the bag really is too damaged to be used. Sounds simple enough but I can't find any answers for this. If someone could provide any input that would be very much appreciated 👍
@@diddydoo5299 Only thing I can figure is rather than stuffing the backpack while it is on your back, did you take it to your hands first THEN stuff it and then bury it? I haven't buried a bag yet myself so I am not quite sure. If it's just damaged though you should be able to bury it I would imagine.
I'm brand new to dayz and I'm about to start so what happens when I'm playing for a couple hours and exit the game but don't die is all my loot gonna be gone? Some has said I need to go to the same server so do I just favorite that server to keep track of that specific server?? If you could explain how that works I'd be really thankful!
Sorry for delay in replying to this comment. So if you are on a community server and you dont die, after about 15 seconds your character will logout and disappear from the game. All your loot is retained, when you log back in again you'll continue where you left off! On the official servers unless I'm mistaken your loot is the same regardless of which server you play on (but it's been a while since I played on official servers so forgive me if that is inaccurate)
ps4 can't use pickaxe or garden hoe? When I hover over my wooden crate they only give me the option to make a garden plot... Haven't been able to find a shovel in two days of trying. Feelsbadman.

I know this is random.. But I can tell your beard is like mine.. A real Man’s beard.. We dont get 5 o’clock shadow.. We get 1 o’clock shadow.. Or We just never get rid of the shadow.. I stopped shaving and just use electric clippers to buzz my face down.. No more razors for me..
I'd wait for someone else to 100% confirm, but from my understanding the items listed at the beginning of the video will only be considered as 'persistence' once they have been buried or 'stashed' I think if you just drop them in the world they'll despawn after a couple of hours. The barrel is one of the few items that will persist for a long period of time. Bear in mind that to 'refresh' the timer (so that it stays longer) you need to refresh it by moving or removing and adding and item back to the barrel again.
I can't remember off the top of my head the despawn times. Also I think those can be dictated by server admins as well so depends on server you play on :/
Hey there! Depends on the server settings but if you just drop a bag of stuff near a Bush it might last for 4 hours or so before despawning. A server restart will probably cause it to vanish as well so I'd be very careful doing that. I don't think I'd recommend it :)

Hang on, if you make a tarp tent or something those are different. They will count in persistence and will remain through logout and restarts of the server. If that's what you are trying to do. Only thing is people can just walk up to it and take stuff
@@JippyUK I know that. That's why I'm trying to build in the bushes rather than in a city. Off the beaten path of some random location. Now if I don't continue to die and spawn in god knows where location sometimes or farther away. But it is somewhat fun to play. I always end up stashing my backpacks and cloths full of stuff close to the ocean, then if I come across more i pick it up new cloths and all. If i come across a newbie player, I send them to my previous stash. Since I can't seem to keep any of it when I log off.
Hah yeah I hear you. There is no rush though with dayz that's what I love about it. You make slow progress and still feeling like you are achieving something everything to put something new together!
I made the video on a community server but yes this should be fine for both official and community (unless the server admin have change the lifetime values of items)
At least 7 days as I recall maybe even 10 or 14. But if you dig up and bury again you refresh the timer for despawn again. A week is a pretty long time :)

Best stash to bury is in baby pine trees, no one will ever notice. And you can use sharpening stones on pick axes so to me more valuable then shovels

I buryed loot with Garden rake tool. Shovel are hard to find. Garden Rake works good 👍

the best loot stash is crates in a certain stream in the right spot they vanish under the rocks and cant be seen even if the water glitches

Why can’t we hurry a barrel?
Don't think you can Bury a barrel. Only hide it somewhere. Can always put it in a lake. Nobody would ever know its their probably :)

You can just place a crate or barrel take in mind it will be a little easier to find

Yeah they make loads of weird design choices sometimes. 1.14 is rumoring toxic zones... That would be 'interesting'
@@JippyUK it sounds like the sort of crap you could expect on a modded server, however it could make trips to the NWAF more interesting.
