Oh my god. At 1983 I was in Lancing for 3 weeks in a Language class. It was the summer of my life. I saw my “school” at 5.04 and recognized a lot of more on Richards ride along Lancing. You made my day! Thank you for sharing! 😊😻

Anyway, other than that a lovely tour around southern Lancing. Loved that old Railway Hotel & some of the other older buildings through that area. Those little beach huts towards the end were just so sweet w/ all the cute liitle details - like the "gingerbread" trimming & the colors! So cute!!!

This video started from where I'm staying and went to Asda. The only place I've been all month! "South" Lancing (beach side of the railway) was almost all marshland until the 1930s. The newest builing is the flats next to Meze Meze (124 South Street), completed this time last year. Luxor was a cinema from 1946-1960s and was derelict from the 1980s, also made into flats only last year (2019). The ground floor foyer area has been retail units for decades. I remember the SEEBoard electric company being there in the 1980s when you'd rent your white goods from the electric board before privatisation! What is now Asda was built as Co-Op in 1994. The market was held where the rear carpark is now.

I have just recently come accross some of your videos of Sussex on You-Tube and what a fantastic series it is.
It's been lovely to revisit some of the familiar places/streets and to now be more informative of these places I have so often visited in the past.
Its been a wonderful trip down memory lane.
A big Thank you for taking the time to produce these wonderful videos for my self and others to enjoy.
I spent the first 10 years of my childhood growing up in 'Bungalow Town' and would often walk along Widewater and play amongst the beach huts and along the miles of sand.
The caravan park you show was known as Golden Sands until it became Beach Park.
I would often stop and buy ice cream at the the little shop on that caravan park.

Correct, I believe the rails branched off near the edge of Elm Grove. Isn't two of the old buildings where Manhattans is now and the other now the Indoor Go-Karting place? Grew up in Lancing in the 80's & 90's and took an interest into it's history with the Rail Industry.

Oddly too, the Freshbrook Road section between level crossing and South Street bridge once had 3 tracks. It's now only 2 with little sign that the 3rd was ever there. Tower Road in the opposite direction named after the water tower where the engines refuelled.

My Dad used to take myself, my sister and my Mum to a beach at the bottom of the garden of a house called Nannette.
we lived in Hove and took the bus and took a load of food down and spent the whole day there. This must have been about 1955. The house called Nannette had a large garden leading down to the beach. I think it is still there - I was hoping you would visit it. Remarkably no one came down from the house to tell us to get lost! I love Lancing - I had a wonderfull friend there who lived in Lancing Park - I have not had a Christmas card from her this year and am too nervous to ring her as I feel she has passed away as she got very ill. I also have another friend in Lancing who I must ring to visit - it is awful how neglectful one gets to be as you get older. Just love your videos and am now watching the Wiltshire ones.

Hello Richard, thanks very much for sharing this video, it is a particularly interesting one as it is an area that I want to explore when things get back to normal.
Living on the Isle of Wight I normally stay in the Worthing Premier and of course these areas are so easy to get to by bus, when I was very young and used to go down there with my parents from south London.
Another area I want to explore his Shoreham as I have not been there for about 50 years.

The conclusion for there was that all drivers are also cyclists making them more aware of cyclsists as drivers and the risks of cycling. Also the infrastructure is better designed for cycling e.g. Cyclepath network and bikes given priority or exclusive use of many town roads, making the biggest risk to cyclists, being hit by motor vehicle, far less likely to happen in town where most cycling occurs.
