I always felt the "ugly phase" is a good thing because its the finished work that supposed to be well balanced out and that if last details dont make the work look significantly better they're probably unnecessary
So happy I stumble upon your channel! I'm recently doing gouache and this turned out really well, I learned a lot too! I mean I tend to watch how other artists do it and it's always educational for my part even if you aren't talking. I agree with the ugly part. Gouache has a very agonizing ugly part that you wanna give up to but the end result is always rewarding.
Wow, I never thought about using so much water at first, I’ll give that a try. I also am surprised by the brown/yellow/green color palette, I need to think beyond always using red/blue/yellow! Thanks, this was fun.
Bravo! Thoroughly enjoyed your video and thanks for the link to my channel. Much appreciated. I noticed you were being very careful with peeling off the tape. I've found that warming the tape with a hair dryer makes it far easier to remove and makes it less likely to tear the paper. Lovely painting.
First of all, sorry for answering so late, I've been out of social media several months m(_ _)m What an honour! I'm astonished by the lighting you achieve on your watercolour paintings. I'm so glad that you don't get upset because of me trying to emulate! Thank you so so so much for your kind words and advice, sir! ( ˘ ³˘)♥
Someone recommended using washi tape instead of low tack masking tape and so far I'm finding it much, much easier to remove, and it certainly seems to be watertight enough to give lovely clean edges. What I'm not sure about is whether it's strong enough to use to actually tape a separate sheet down for lots of washes. Plus I've yet to find washi tape wider than 15mm.
@@amberdreams_0 I've tried all sorts Amberdreams with varying degrees of success. I don't find low tack masking to be very good and there seems to be lots of degrees of tackiness strength in many of the tapes I've tried. I found that ordinary cheap brown plastic parcel tape to be pretty good but it certainly needs heating on removal. Also I found Bockingford, Arches and Saunders Waterford all behave differently with the various tapes. It's annoying, you spend a lifetime experimenting with the various pigment brands and papers only to find you need to do the same with the tape. 😂
Really pretty and dreamy. I am new to gouache, and wouldn’t know how to start. I’ll keep watching you until I feel a bit more sure 😊 I think it would be more convenient if I put mine in pans for easier access.
Just discovered your channel and I'm so sad that this is the last video you uploaded, 9 months ago! I hope at some point you begin making gouache speed paint videos again. I love your landscapes and it's so helpful to watch the process!!!
It's really amazing work. I also do gouache videos. I hope some day I can be as good as they are at landscape. I''m happy I ran across their channel also and I hope they return with new content.
@@SN-vn6wb I really still haven’t gotten that good at gouche! However I also don’t paint/draw as much as I used to. As they say life got in the way, but I’m slowly getting back into it! Never too late to try again! :) x
Subbed and rang the bell! This was my first time finding your channel and I love this video! I'm just learning how to use gouache after starting watercolor. There's so much to learn!
The thumbnail of your video made me think of John Salmons paintings. I always thought I would need gouache for this type of scenery ... you do it very well and I enjoyed your result.
This is extremely beautiful and relaxing. also this is my first time hearing about gouache paint I actually got it last year for Christmas and I wanted to make sure I understood it and whether or not I could also use it on canvas so correct me if I'm wrong about the material, so gouache is an advanced watercolor pigment that has the same translucent properties as normal watercolor but has the opaque consistency as acrylic.
I always get discouraged when I'm on the "ugly phase", I'll start contemplating if I should finish it or not, or why am I doing art lololol the only thing that helps me keep going is by asking my mom if she can see the message I'm trying to potray in this "ugly phase" then I'll continue so she can see the pretty results, but it sounds so easy when I'm typing this, this whole stage actually happens for like a week sometimes months XD
Thank YOU for such kind and encouraging words! ♡´・ᴗ・`♡ When it's done it seems easy but believe me, in the process of painting I pause many times wondering WTH I'm doing?! ಥωಥ
In this case I got inspired by John Salmon's paintings atmosphere (see the link in the description box). In general... sometimes yes and sometimes not. If I'm really blocked or stressed I warm-up using references. Also if I'm trying to emulate a specific technique... It's not an easy answer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey, it's been too long! How it's your watercolour/gouache doing? I'm trying to get back to RUclips but my life is a mess nowadays ಥ_ಥ Anyway, no excuses allowed! Hope you are well (◕‿◕✿)
Odd Pierrot yea! I know what you mean, basically same story... I draw and paint a few times a month but can never seem to to do it everyday. Been thinking I should focus more on fundamental drawing skills so lately been doing Proko’s figure drawing course (the full one), and that has been teaching me more about “construction” and visualizing the world in simple geometric forms like cylinders/boxes etc I watch art videos everyday though lol, so please make more! They’re the best! And man I can reeeeally see the improvement in your paintings, this one is super pro
You are too kind, you should be scolding me for not painting bigger! (^ω^) Also, I have to confess that I watch much more painting videos than actually painting myself! What a shame! ಥωಥ Good choice, Proko is a wonderful teacher, to the point but enjoyable. Take care and keep on! ( ´ ▽ ` )b
I always felt the "ugly phase" is a good thing because its the finished work that supposed to be well balanced out and that if last details dont make the work look significantly better they're probably unnecessary
Yep, but sometimes it's a bit discouraging, mainly those days you don't feel very self-confident ಥ_ಥ
One of the most breathtaking paintings I’ve ever seen.
I often give up at the ugly stage. This turned out soooo amazing. 🥰
That turned out so magical!

It is so beautiful and the music is so perfect for the video.
Oh, glad you like it! I always struggle finding a song long enough or loopable that fits the painting („ಡωಡ„)

Your work is beautiful by the way. I love it.
im so amazed by how you transformed the painting from that very vague background into what it has become
It also amazed me how it turned out! I'm always so gloomy when painting with gouache... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You make it look so effortless. I feel like I can never get my painting out of the ugly stage 😂😂
When you get stuck in an ugly stage just keep swimming... as Dory would say (´。• ω •。`)
This comment was 4 years ago. How far have you come? :)

This is a really good painting. Just wondering what kind of paper are you using? Kind regards
Hola dos dudas, ¿La tempera es lo mismo que el gouache? y ¿en que ayuda la glicerina, lo combinas?
comfortable pyjamas! good choice ;) also you paint beautifully layering up!

They are my most professional tools, I wouldn't be able to draw a straight line without my beloved pyjamas! (^ヮ^)

Odd Pierrot hey check out Andrew Hem, he does amazingly detailed gouache sketches in a little moleskine... and he’s a MURALIST!
(ʘ言ʘ)
Ok, I quit. He is too much for my delicate self-esteem.
Joking (^ω^)
I can use a pencil to scratch my back although it's not supposed to be used like that (and YOU can put it in your butt) ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
nice ! sub#849
