We are ratcheting down the grocery budget this year, in an attempt to save up for a trip to the UK. More bean recipes please!

Have you tried making your own yogurt? Our family of six loves yogurt and my kids want it all the time, but it is so expensive, so I began making my own in my InstantPot and it is so easy and inexpensive!

@@homemaker.on.a.budget I make soy yogurt, because almond milk doesn’t have enough protein to thicken into a good yogurt consistency unless you add a thickener like tapioca starch. I use Westsoy unsweetened, Eden Soy unsweetened or Trader Joe’s unsweetened soy milk. Most other brands are too low in protein and have a lot of added ingredients. Keep the container or milk at room temperature. Add 32 oz of soy milk and 5 oz of soy or coconut yogurt into the instant pot and whisk together. Close the lid, keep the vent open, hit the yogurt setting and set time for anything between 12-16 hours. The longer it cooks, the tangier it gets, and I like tangy yogurt so I cook mine for 14-16 hours. When it’s done, you can add whatever you like to it, and even strain it to get a Greek yogurt consistency. It keeps for 7-10 days, although it will most likely get eaten much sooner than that! You can save some yogurt to start the next batch, but after doing that 2-3 times you’ll need to get another container of yogurt for a fresh starter, or you can use vegan yogurt starter powder or probiotic powder. This makes a great job for an older child - my 11 year-old LOVES making yogurt! I love your channel and have picked up so many useful tips, so I’m glad to be able to pass one on to you! ❤

Quick question. What do you do with any extra money when you're under budget?

I keep it in my grocery envelope, because I do tend to use it throughout the month.
