MiniDisc was a phenomenal invention for its time. I am just getting into MD and I still find it fascinating. Funny how my PS4 does not have an optical line out, but a PS2 does 🤷🏻♂️
I used to do this in high school a lot right before the transition to mp3. Works the same with any Discman with optical out. Splits and labels the tracks automatically. It's a perfect copy of the CD!
I thought Sony would've planned a very specific "TRACK BREAK MARK" cue within CDs, but I guess they didn't. That means the silence length may be the same, but the track length/cutoff is slightly different, as it's cut off to whenever the MD system thinks it's the next rack...
Tyvm for such precious information this video is a gem in my eyes and I am sure it is as well to many other people! Definitely gonna save this in my special playstation playlist. :-)
I have a Minidisc recorder coming in the mail and a PS3, so I am going to give this a try. I was trying to figure out how I was going to get CDs on my minidisc in the best quality possible.
In theory i can use this same method on my sony home deck minidisc player. And if digital optical is already turned on on my ps2. I shouldn't even have to hook it up to a tv. To burn to my recorder. Trying to eliminate connecting to a tv?
I could not get other CD players I own to automatically put track marks on the MD. Your mileage may vary, but a PS2 is verified to work and one of the most mass produced CD players of all time.
@@paulgard9901 Shouldn't use Sonic Stage. It doesn't record in SP. Web MiniDisc is a browser-based NetMD utility that does support SP recording over NetMD.
Sweet Now i can at least sleep in sound after a whole nightmare of digital recordings Somehow it only record 1 part of the song and it in the right output The other one completely silence out It get me pissed off for a while Any suggestion beside the ps2 record ?
XBOX 360 would copy the audio, but didn't send the track split information. I would imagine XBOXES simply don't send that kind of data over optical. Sound only.
First time I've come across this video, any cd or dvd player`s with optical out will do this, it doesn't have to be a ps2, its usually the hi-end cd players that have optical and some have digital coaxal outputs as well but you did start to see this on some budget models to, digital outputs from cd players will automatically put down the track markings that`s just how it works, there's nothing special going on with ps2 .

Thanks, this keeps a worthy technology alive -

The matrix soundtrack on a MiniDisc that look like the one in the movie. Nice!

I have a Sony stereo mini disc stereo unit and even that doesn't transfer the characters or split songs
I have the same Matrix CD 😬
How did you get the original MD from Matrix filming?
and with xbox 360 how would it look
Really any CD with optical out can achieve.
I could not get other CD players I own to automatically put track marks on the MD. Your mileage may vary, but a PS2 is verified to work and one of the most mass produced CD players of all time.
Hi, sound quality and volume wise... Would you say this works well please?
Have you tried this with a ps3?
Yesir i needed this vid. Thank you
Thanks for the video, bud! Helpful content.
Why not just rip the CD to Flac and recording the files onto it with NetMD? It's faster and your player supports it.
WAV may be a more flexible format than Flac especially if you use sonic sound software but agree with your statement.

I've heard recording a minidisc via the netmd connection makes for lower quality audio than even recording over a regular aux cable
Also ripping to FLAC files first can't reliably do gapless audio if the original CD had gapless tracks.
@@williammememan6002 that was true with soundstage but not with webnetmd
Vintage Rare Sony Walkman Digital Player NW-MS7 MP3 Japan
is there a cover to put mini disk in before using it or can we directly insert it into Md player
Sweet

Thats cool! I was thinking of getting one of those Japanese "decks" but this should be easier.
Will a ps3 be the same ?
Does this work with an Xbox one?
@Sergi SzT Proton it has optical output...should be working
Should work with a PS3, Xbone legit anything with an optical out you can even find portable Sony CD players with optical outs
I attempted this with Xbox One, but I couldn't get it to play CDs.

does this work on ps1 as well? my ps2 broke a long time ago
you have a net md player though...
This is great 👍
This is cool oldskool stuff. Nowadays it is so much easier with laptop.
