  • Final Fantasy XVI...is it good? Final Fantasy XVI is a fun game and an fine Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy XVI for the most part I found enjoyable. Here I cover the gameplay elements or lack there of in Final Fantasy XVI. Talk about Final Fantasy XVI's music and much more. :) Final Fantasy XVI as of now is only available for Playstation 5. Though the PC port is being worked on. Thanks for watching and enjoy my review of Final Fantasy XVI
    " The sun is setting upon the land of Valisthea. For centuries, people have flocked to her Mothercrystals to partake of their blessing-the abundant aether that fuels the magicks they rely upon in their everyday lives. But as the aether begins to fade and the lifeless deadlands spread ever further, so too does the struggle over the final flickers of the Mothers' light grow ever more fierce. Bloody battle rages across the realm, rival nations sending their ultimate weapons against each other: the Dominants. Men and women within whom sleep the world-shattering power of an Eikon. There are few in Valisthea whose lives have not been touched by this war for the crystals' blessing, and Clive Rosfield, firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria, is no exception. Unlike most, however, the vicissitudes of fate are to reveal to him the dark truth that lies at the heart of his world, and lead him on a mission to destroy those selfsame Mothercrystals the rest of the realm hold sacred. The legacy of the crystals has shaped mankind's destiny for long enough."

    Incredible review! I enjoyed every bit of what was said.
    There is only one thing that bothered me about FFXVI and that was the lack of a sprint button. I know we have an automatic sprint when traversing the open fields but a sprint button could have come in handy when coming back to the hideaway during a sidequest and you want to get it done as fast as possible in order to progress through the story.

    Great review, thanks. It will be some time before I get to play this, but what you said all made sense to me.
    One question about the colour palette: it could be because I watched this on my laptop screen .. but a lot of scenes looked to me rather "brownish-greyish" (you mentioned the lack of colourful attributes) and I got this weird reminiscence of the old Wii RPG The Last Story.

    For me FF16 is probably the highest MID tier FF game in the franchise to me. Sure it has spectacle and some good story beats but most of this game was developed SAFE MID in order to appeal to the broadest audience possible in the main stream which sort of brings it down for me.I think the combat is cool but My God the particle effects, it's way too much flash over substance, nothing I really haven't seen before in terms of Action RPGs or just action games. So while FF16 doesn't even crack my top 5 i would put it at highest Mid Tier for me personally. I just hope with FF17 Square takes more chances on settings, design, story, and more and not be so Western safe.

    I really enjoyed FF16 but for some reason the story and themes just haven’t stuck with me like some other Final Fantasies have.
    I’m not sure if it was the focus on Clive that led to the other characters not being as fleshed out as I’d hoped, but something about it makes wish there was just a bit more to it.

    I personally did not like this game. Running from point A to B to C then back to point A in a linear game with no sprint button was a chore. The boss fights are sick for the first 5 minutes. then once again a chore that last an extra 20 minutes with no fear of dying is just boring. Enemies are just reskinned and have the exact same attack patterns. For instance minor dragon attacks with right claw right after spits fire twice etc. I mean it's not bad but just not for me. I prefer Forspoken over this game.

      4 is the game that feels that has that stereotypical JRPG feel to it. All the carricatures of Fantasy JRPGs seem to be taken from it.
      But it was ahead of it time in terms of combat. No grinding required, just pure tactical prowess thanks to its timeless assortment of abilities for each party member.
      Sure it lacks the customization of 5-8 but given that you're a fan of FF9, you'll definitely appreciate how polished the team composition is.

    Completely agree with this review. You nailed it. I wouldn’t score it so high, personally, but I agree with every point you made. I would also add that while I agree that the “westernization” of character designs was a negative…I felt the same way about towns and town music as well. I couldn’t tell you a single town theme in this game…they were all so bland. I can remember almost every town theme from FF 5,6,7,8,9,10…almost all of them. And many of them had unique and interesting designs too. FF16 felt like I was experiencing a game that really wanted to take inspiration from both eastern and western game design, but suffered an identity crisis instead.
    9 is my favorite in the series, and I just don’t know if it will ever get dethroned

    If this game didn’t have the branding of Final Fantasy I think it would be better received. Even to me it doesn’t seem to be a Final Fantasy game and I’d be more receptive towards it. Honestly a better title to the game would be “Clive is Mad!”
    I would love for an action rpg to try a battle system like Soul Calibur. Where you have a buttload of moves, complex combos, directional inputs, command grabs, etc.
    Mashing square and lizard-brain impulse reactions for dodges and parries just doesn’t do it for me.
    I wanna think! I want to take in consideration of spacing. My move vs their move. And so on.
    Great review as always. =)

      You can't be chasing off the casual normie gamers that Square wants to be able to sell tens of millions of copies. If they had an actual combat system that took into consideration elemental weaknesses, like their own Stranger of Paradise, they'd chase people off. If they thought about using positioning, like say Arkham City, they'd chase more people off.
      They can't just make it a true action game. They have to make it an ACCESSIBLE action game for all. That means single button combos and basic dodges. At least timing is taken into consideration for the dodges. The parrying system is a joke, because a bad player will simply luck into them by mashing attack. And of course the need to do all of the flashy combos that the game has is pointless, because you don't ever need to put in that much effort to beat most mobs.
      I personally feel as though if this is the direction that they're going to push mainline games from now on, then they could learn a thing or two from the Ys series.

    • @DonkThikkness
      @DonkThikkness Год назад +1

      @@Xoulrath_ For the record I am a casual and normie gamer. I’m a huge advocate for accessibility in games and the “one size fits all” approach is not working any more. Add options to adjust game speed, timing windows, enemy and player hp, etc.
      Give people the tools to play the game how they want it. Let the most beginner players be able to learn at their own pace and the most hardcore have the challenge they require.
      Dodge and parry systems are so over saturated I’m probably never going to buy another game built around such a system. The options to design and program are literally limitless, yet we all keep seeing the same thing time and time again.

    • @Xoulrath_
      @Xoulrath_ Год назад

      @@DonkThikkness the problem is that what you're asking for is FAR HARDER and MORE COSTLY than you probably believe it to be. Most people severely underestimate programming/coding at a base level. That misunderstanding gets taken up a notch with regards to gaming.
      Sure, a company COULD add all of the options that you propose, but it does take TIME, MONEY, and PEOPLE to do those things. It isn't as simple as thinking about it, and then it's just there.
      Another thing to consider is whether or not the game will suffer when difficulty options are added. There is a lot to consider there as well. It isn't always about just speeding enemies up and giving them more hit points and higher damage to make a game harder, or doing the reverse to make a game easier. Especially not when you're the one who brought up tactical options.
      With that said, of course it CAN be done. But to expect every company to simply do it is unrealistic. The reality is that not every game is for every person. As AI helps to do more and more basic stuff, the wishlist that you have should become less costly and therfore more viable. But it will take time. Until then, if you like adventure games, or as so many mislabel them these days, ARPGs, check out the Ys series. In particular, you'll want to check out the newer titles, VIII and IX. It has combat that requires a bit more thought than FFXVI, while also having multiple difficulty options.

    • @DonkThikkness
      @DonkThikkness Год назад

      @@Xoulrath_ You can come up with all the excuses you want to invalidate me, but ultimately these companies want to sell games. I am voicing what I want in this industry, and that is variety and new experiences. These companies have been doing nothing but cannibalizing gameplay from one another for decades. The only thing that evolves is graphics and presentation. So yes, I am demanding these companies come up with new gameplay. In retaliation I am not purchasing any more of their products until they do.
      These AAA games are built on hundreds of millions of dollars these days. They can easily budget R&D for new gameplay design, and gameplay loops. Instead you’re watching a movie like 50% of the time. I don’t buy a game to watch a movie which is what most of these AAA games are getting away with. While expecting us to play the same tired, and crusty nonsense. You can polish a turd all you want and it’s still a turd. And that’s what this gameplay is, a turd. A big fat turd. I ain’t forking over cash for 💩.
      EDIT: I know my words were harsh and I know many, many, many people…100s if not 1000+ people worked insanely hard on this game. I do not fault them in the slightest. I am finger pointing at the leaders of these projects who dictate and control all creativity. The people below them are the ones who actually do the work. They are just doing their jobs. Upper management, project leads, producers, CEOs and shareholders are the ones I’m calling out because it’s their fault for all this sameness. After all everything is based their decisions.

      Totally agree. I've been saying that since FF11 and FF14 were released. Those games should have just been called FF Online. I think FF15 should have either been a seperate game or spin-off as well. But SE knows the FF names garners attention and that it will sell so they've been just slapping it on titles for years now.
      I feel like this is why the fanbase is so divided nowadays because the fans that have stuck around and made the series so popular are being neglected and turned off by what it's become. While new fans or people who weren't really interested in it's turn-based games are being brought in and catered to with more action oriented games.
      It's like if Call of Duty announced a new entry in the mainline franchise but it was a card game or Baldurs Gate 3 style, turn based RPG instead of a shooter and that's what the focus would be going forward.

    I really just want square enix to find thier footing again in the Turn-Based RPG/ Action RPG sphere.
    Going full Action (less RPG) was such a cop-out. Its odd, given how FF7R was successful in creating an action system that respected it ATB roots not to mention Kingdom Hearts as well.
    Why can't they just perfect the RPG systems of FFXV, Type - 0 FF12, or even making a turn based system thats presented in a fashion that break the stigma.
    FF16 isn't a bad game, but from Final Fantasy gameplay perspective, it just feels disrespectful. Games like Tales of the Arise & NEO: The World Ends With You are proof that you don't have to go full Dante...

    I really wanted to like this game a lot more than I did. On one hand, I really liked the world and the nations going against each other. Cid was hella cool and everything during his time in the game kept me invested. By the time he leaves and you continue into Clive's role in The Hideaway, I felt a bit less into it. I loved the goofy Eikon battles, Dion was fucking cool, but the Ultima plot fell a bit flat. It boiled down to Clive having to tell the bad guys why they're wrong and humans "deserve to be free and make our own choices" I feel like I heard that fucking speech numerous times. I was more into it wanting to know why his mom was such a terrible person. She was possibly more evil than Ultima. He's just bad for the sake of being an opposing ideology. She's genuinely terrible.

I became a huge fan Final Fantasy after playing FF7 Remake because it felt more complete as an RPG (despite just being part 1). While FF16's Crafting, side quests, exploration, hunts, town events, NPCs, upgrades, etc. all feel lazy and or downgraded for the endless cutscenes and flashy combat. Even the whole GOT theme kind of took me out of it. This is probably my least favorite FF so far.

The combat can easily be won with the same Eikon abilities, it's just spamming attacks, wait for cooldowns, and spam again. Jill was in a good portion of the game, at least let me customize her play style instead of me just watching her cast random attacks. The towns are uneventful just a pointless shop and a few side quests. The NPCS barely move or say anything interesting. I can explore this world and expect nothing, just go from point A to B. That's what I mean about lifeless world, wasn't talking about the endless Cutscenes. The side quests are mostly boring, and they always end the same way with Clive telling us the lesson we learned from the quest before receiving useless crafting materials that we won't use. The boon system was okay just a way to get more loot from that shop, it wasn't enough to make up for the rest and you had to endure the side quests. The hunts were basically regular enemies enhanced, very disappointing. FF7 Remake side quests were much better. The world also felt more alive and interesting. And it came out 3 years prior. Even the gameplay/RPG mechanics felt strategic and satisfying while keeping that FF charm.

    For me, the game was a 9.5/10 game brought down to an 8.5/10 game purely by design choices. The lack of party members or actual stats (you have 4 stats, but stagger and attack can't really be changed individually, same with health and defense outside one accessory, so 2 stats really) meant there was no variety in equipment, which meant money/crafting materials was pointless, which meant for the most part exploration was pointless, dungeons or overworld, and by the end of the game it was just a checklist of stuff. I never did NG+ because you would need to do every single quest, again, in NG+ to upgrade your weapons, and for me I was just tired of the game by the end, no matter how much I liked the story and characters.
    I'm replaying FF12 (which I know Lady Pelvic wasn't a fan of), and the constant need to buy and update equipment and accessories and skills, and the constant tug of having gold and spending gold meaning that I constantly need to get gold, meant the game just feels so much rewarding to explore, plus the mini-achievements of having to kill X of each mob to get lore drops. I might have to spend 30 minutes to an hour farming out specific items for Bazaar equipment, but getting that piece of equipment feels so rewarding, especially if it's something that changes how the game's played (the Accessory that reverses item effects, allowing you to inflict every status ever on an enemy 100% with a remedy), which 16 really doesn't have. 12 has its flaws too, but its flaws don't bring the game down for me.
    Plus, minor nitpick, I hated how healing was in the game, that you could not replenish potions unless you bought them. By the mid point in the game that's fine, but when I was first bright eyed and exploring before I learned to hate it, I was not making enough money back to replenish my potions, or just barely breaking even, and multiple times chose to die just because it'd reset my potions to full. Plus, because of how limited money was at the start due to this, I never bothered to train to use the Attack/Defense potions, because 800 gold for one of those wasn't something I could afford to do. By the time I had the money to blow on those, I never felt the need for it.

    When SquareEnix eventually got around to releasing a new mainline Final Fantasy title, they released a hack and slash action game instead of a true RPG. Looking directly at Final Fantasy 16, sure it has a story (if you like game of thrones), great graphics and some memorable music but in my opinion, it is not a true Final Fantasy game. It has no real party system, there is no point in exploring towns, they are mostly just empty and dead, side quests are so shallow and boring, offering no real reward. The game is very linear, feeling like it is on rails and doesn't open up until much later in the game. Crafting in the game is pretty much pointless, as is much of the equipment in the game. Combat is unique and engaging but quickly becomes boring, as most battles can be won by just mashing the same attack buttons over and over. Speaking of mashing buttons, quicktime events are so prevalent that they become frustrating and annoying, ruining the flow during battle. This is especially true in the icon events.
    Sadly, I feel SquareEnix has forgotten much of their history and heritage and in doing so they have lost sight of their fans, especially those of us who have been playing their games since the beginning.
    As far as I am concerned, mainline Final Fantasy as I know it, is pretty much dead. I would much rather see SquareEnix remaster their entire back catalogue in HD 2D. I would pay mega bucks for games such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore and Xenogears to be remade in HD 2D for current gen consoles. Personally, I would much rather play those games than titles like Final Fantasy XVI.
    That said I respect your opinion and enjoyed your review.

    I didn't enjoy the game at all. I didn't care for any of the characters. I thought Clive was super boring and one-note. The character I did like was a side character with little focus. And the ones who did get screentime and focus were boring or did nothing like Jill, Benedikta, Joshua, Cid, Hugo and so on. Didin't care and they usually died or were swept off before they could do anything cool or interesting for me to care for them. The world was boring.
    Too many particle effects on screen that I literally couldn't tell what was going on. The music all just faded into the background and was mainly generic medieval bombast that I found forgettable. Only remembered two songs, Away and the battle theme, due to repetitions. I don't remember and memorable leitmotifs. Character designs were pretty generic and boring, and too realistic to be memorable.
    But I liked the combat. But I REALLY stuggled to get through the game. I was about 30 hours in and near the end and I put it on hold to play and complete another 30 hour game. I found it so difficult to finish. I was mislead and disappoined from the set up and intrigue of the demo.

    I like the game. I like the story, and I really like the characters, and think the game is pretty fun. Although it's way too easy, I don't know how they thought it was okay to be this easy. It's not like Devil May Cry is this easy, so I don't understand how it turned out like this. I know Game of Thrones was a main source of inspiration, but man it's way too reliant on it. Wish they didn't straight up copy quite as much from it and had less direct connections to GOT. It pulled me out of things many times.
    But is it Final Fantasy? No. Not at all. And remember, I really like the game, but that doesn't mean I lie to myself. Refusing that is some heavy copium. And I don't get why other 16 fans can't accept this. It is by far the biggest departure for the series. Too big of one. I'm sick of seeing weak defensive arguments like "every FF changes things". Yeah, they always change the story, they expand upon or tweak the combat, etc. They don't uproot the entire lineage. It's not specifically the action combat, but the combination of _everything_ they removed that you mentioned like status effects, real party members, elemental mechanics, and everything else. Taking it ALL away is what makes this not Final Fantasy. The game could have been called Final Fantasy Eikons or something to show it's a spinoff as it truly is, but then they wouldn't get the mainline FF cash-in they were hoping for. Though looks like they aren't getting that anyway because of it being too big of a departure.
    Quick side note, I HATED Active Time Lore. It breaks immersion which is a huge story telling sin so I think it's a god awful idea. Encouraging me to constantly PAUSE THE CUTSCENES I'M WATCHING is not good. Instead they should have had the system explain things during the fade-to-black moments between multiple cutscenes, and also after the cutscenes end. It's horribly executed.
    Yoshi P and his team needs to learn for to make a single player game and step out of the MMO mindset because all is the pseudo-MMO shit in the quests was fucking atrocious, even as someone who also loves MMOs. It doesn't belong in a single player game.
    In summary, I think Squeenix's history lately is just some painful irony. They keep stating things like "we have to modernize our games for new players and what they and the market expect nowadays". And while they are doing so, their sales continue to drop, not understanding that their "old style" games continue to have been their most successful. It's simply mind boggling they don't see the classic formulas is what people want and what we clearly paid for previously and are no longer getting from them.

    FFXVI is and always will be a JRPG. This whole "is this or that game a REAL RPG or not" BS is everything I hate about modern gaming culture. An RPG is an RPG regardless of your personal preference of how YOU think an RPG SHOULD be. I mean really? This is what we are focusing on? Not the fact that it had a great story, a solid cast of characters, interesting world, and epic music but just minor gripes about how it doesn emulate 6-10? That also makes me think that most people complaining are over 40 which adds a whole other level to how pathetic this debate has become. Don't you have jobs, families, and lives? Moaning about shit like this every day makes think otherwise. Am I the only older gamer that isn't full on addicted to nostalgia? I think I might be. Well I like when companies try new things and am not afraid of action combat so I'll keep enjoying the golden era of RPGs we've been getting for the last ten years while you all find something to cry over in ever game that releases. I don't envy being that miserable. Can't be a fun existence.

    • @von4297
      @von4297 Год назад

      Although i understand your perspective, an RPG is historically a game that allows you customize your character/party with stat changing items, resistances, spells (or tech if in games like fallout). Take tales of arise as a similar comparison, in terms of the action rpgs genre. Except you have a lot of control in tales on how to gear and skill your characters. And there were different gear that would affect your stats differently. So you can swap your team and gear out depending on what kinds of enemies you’re about to face. Ff16 didn’t have anything like that. Just basic gear upgrades like an action game, with no real choices. Sword A does more dps than sword B. So why wouldn’t you upgrade from sword B. No elemental swords that would do extra damage, not agonizing choices between a slightly weaker sword that has more upgrade slots than a stronger sword, etc. Spells were also incredibly basic in ff16. The ranged casting was really not useful except as filler to keep the damage going when out of melee range or when dodging mechanics. So really the game’s combat was use your limit break when the bar is full, then spam your eikon skills, and then fill with melee until cooldowns are done, hit limit break when the bar is full, and repeat ad infinitum. For every single enemy. No summons, not spells, no different weapon styles, no jobs (i.e. classes), and no party members.
      FF16, though I did enjoy it, it felt more like playing an action game like bayonetta, dmc, or astral chain. Flashy attacks but very limited skillset. And a very linear progression through the game. Hardly any exploration, since the game is point to point movement, so no secrets to find. No choices to make that would affect your experience of the story (even as simple as dialogue choices were missing here). It’s an rpg as much as dirge of cerberus, which i don’t think it was. Another game I liked, but was surprised by the direction it took.
      Not feeling like this is an rpg isn’t saying it’s a bad game. Just that it’s a big departure from what made Final Fantasy the genre defining jrpg series we came to love over the decades (ff15 aside). It was the series that introduced a lot of us to just how good and epic a jrpg could be in it’s story, cast, and variability of gameplay. It also felt a little deflating when I realized I can only ever play as Clive doing the same move sets over and over again for 60hrs.
      The “game of thrones” thing really fell by the wayside about halfway into the game, when it made a hard turn back into jrpg territory. The thematic shift felt strange. Again both halves of the game were enjoyable, but they felt like two different games to me. Where, aside from dion, it seemed like the other kingdoms just became irrelevant and uninvolved despite the high stakes the story introduced. It was a story all about Clive and only Clive. The other side characters were only more fully (loosely) explored in side quests and otherwise felt pretty generic in the main story. You could sub in any character for the non-dominants and it wouldn’t have changed how the story felt.
      Again, i thought it was a fun game. Unlike ff15, i did everything in Ff16 except some of the trials. But it didn’t feel like a mainline rpg entry that the name, Final Fantasy, invokes.
      What if devil may cry’s combat became turn based like x-com. Would it still appeal to dmc fans? Maybe. But it’s not what they’d expect from a game with that title. Nor would it be an action game, anymore. It would be a strategy game.

      @@von4297 That's one style of an RPG. Based on your standard, none of the golden age narrative driven RPG are actual RPGs when really you just need to accept that like with music there are a lot of different styles to RPG from CRPG to JRPG to WRPG to SRPG. Some games let you choose all the choices, others only have you choose some, others have you role playing as a specific character. There is no one certain REAL RPG and you all just need to accept that different styles exist and are just as real as the styles you prefer. All this bickering is pointless and kind of stupid imo.

    -Zero RPG mechanics. God of War or DMC are more RPGs than this one

    Nice to finally hear your take on XVI. Also, just curious are you good on going further with playing any of the other mainline FF games? You don't seem interested in 7, 13, and 15 at all.
    And 8, 12, 14 didnt do it for you either, so just curious if you're done playing them.

    It’s good. Gameplay is amazing. Characters are written well.
    It just peaks at Bahamut and sadly never gets better. Pacing is really weird in places. Doesn’t feel like a a JRPG at times. During the final boss I wasn’t even really hyped because my expectations were higher.

    It just didn’t feel like i was playing a jrpg and thus i was majorly disappointed with this. I don’t think its a bad game but it was lacking so much i loved about previous ff titles. It doesn’t do anything to differentiate itself from other action games on the market. If anything playing this felt like a step or two backwards.

      I'd go a step further and say it lacks a lot of features of other action RPGs/jrpgs. It streamlined everything so much I was having FFXIII flashbacks. I have a laundry list of complaints, but ultimately I just felt the game was dreary and bland with a few big budget cinematic moments thrown in.

      @@Highwind452 Yeah. Its one thing to put more action and stray away from turn based like what SE has done that past 15 years
      ... Its another thing to abandon RPG mechanics in entirety.

    I can appreciate the fact that FF16 returns to its more high-fantasy roots. I love that SE learned its lesson after FF15 and released a full game without the need to do any research outside of the game. The music is decent.
    But thats where my praise ends. The game is MID af. The game is not an RPG, its a straight up action game. There is no playable party members other than Clive. Theres no party management. Elemental weaknesses or status effects dont exist so it removes any kind of strategy from combat outside of bosses mechanics. Upgrading armors and weapons aren't as satisfying as it should be. There waaaaaaay too much of the game taking control away from the player and the focus on the boring QTEs is annoying. Not to mention in a game that is around 30-40 hours long (if you didnt do the sidequests) there is 20+ HOURS of cutscenes. Theres no interesting sidequests that unlock secret ultimate weapons or poweful magic attacks.
    Its an alright game. But its a terrible Final Fantasy game. And as a long time fan, I can see why it's so divisive honestly.

    Pretty good review miss. FFXVI isn't a game devoid of passion or effort, it's just lacking in some areas. The biggest takeaways are the lack of RPG elements & it's simplistic battle system. It's overall a well-made, polished game that Yoshi-P & co. put a lot of work into. Ain't no faulting that.

    • @ShonnDaylee
      @ShonnDaylee Год назад +1

      Simplistic is being kind. It's hardly an RPG battle system at all. Very low on strategy, and high on action. Kills the game for me... at least as far as Final Fantasy game go, it's a pass for me.

    I enjoyed my experience with FFXVI. But not as much as I thought I would. The game is a solid 8/10 for me in some parts and 7/10 for me in other parts. This could have been another game without the Final Fantasy name attached to it. The positives for me were the graphics, music, and combat(although no where on the level as Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden). I thought the story was decent. It started off strong, but kind of fell off towards the middle of the game. Not a fan of the way the game is structured, very limited and linear. Too many repeated enemies, side quest aren't that good. There were a few that stood out. No playable party was also a let down. Also a lot of the characters in the game weren't that interesting compared to previous Final Fantasy games. The game can get pretty repetitive at times. My final score would be a 7.5/10 overall.

    Since FF3, I purchased every FF title at launch and took that week off work. FFXVI is the last time that I will make that mistake. I should've took heed of the FFXV disaster and realized where the devs wanted to go, but I wanted to give Square another chance. This should've been released on Amazon Prime as a 50-hour film.

      Don't know why Square hates turn-based so much. Yoshi saw it as a product of the time. A limitation.
      Maybe square should try a boulders gate type ff.

    One of my biggest gripes with the game is how long ALL the fights are and how many phases each boss fight was which bloats the gameplay but also doesn't do enough with it. The QTEs also turned me off heavily

      @@ebonomicscasual1433 I wouldn't purposely fail a qte tho. Maybe in a game that I'm replaying yyeah. But this game for me is not replay worthy. The fact that the boss battles alone are like 25 minutes I definitely would want to miss a spammed qte prompt. Which would make the fight more intense if it were different buttons randomly thrown at you. I mean I'm sure it has a different sequence if you were not somehow paying attention and missed it. But I know the mini game where you have to shoot the eikon before it does it's finishing move does. I know because those were the only times I died in the game haha.

      I think they wanted to give us time to build up those limits, chain together a bunch of abilities and feel epic… problem is I found myself doing that 3-4 times every major encounter. It deflated the impact of cool moves when you use them every single battle.
