It’s interesting to me that the official score had no notation. Im sure whatever sheets they read off of to record that day in the studio had to of at least had something written down, but its also really cool if Newman gave the band alot of freedom to make it their own. A testament to the level these guys were at. Funny enough in the movie soundtrack we only here bits and pieces of this recording.
The main melody had notation, like whenever the soprano and trombone played on their own at the beginning, but background fills and solos were all slashes. The parts that were written down: -The entire first page, all the instruments. What's written on the score in this vid is on the official score. The ENTIRE rhythm section after that point is all slashes -The chord changes on all the instruments. This is the official chord progression -Only the skeleton of the melody for soprano and trombone. The added flares, glisses, and swoops were ad libbed by the players. -The sax, trombone, guitar, and vibes at 0:39 - 0:50 is exactly as it appears on the score -Whenever sax and trombone are playing in unison, that's from the score Parts that were not: -The rhythm section past the first page was slash notation -From the sax solo onwards (until the last time playing the melody), every single instrument is slashes, no notes at all aside from rhythms -The last two measures were not in the score at all -Whenever the sax or trombone are doing fills behind whoever has the melody is not written
Worth noting this is fairly standard practice for small jazz ensembles. You'll have a lead sheet with the melody and chords and that's about it. Pretty much everything in the Real Book is written this way
“If I Didn’t Have You” isn’t the theme of the movie. The theme is called “Monster’s Inc..” The former is the song that Billy Crystal and John Goodman sing together
It's the same melody, but Randy Newman titled the instrumental version (this one) as If I Didn't Have You. Even if it's officially called Monsters Inc., The sheets are titled differently

That’s just… how jazz music usually is
Nice! Love to see the vibes on this :). (P.S. there are vibes during the solo section in some parts too)
Thank you very much, this is really useful.
