      cos its a comedy. the whole show is a normal life but dumbed down. for example when eddies dad wanted to fire that white cowboy that was clearly bringing in good business just because he wanted mitch back

      I disagree, the show eventually embraces his intelligence and streets smarts based on his past experiences he's had to deal with on his own as young kid despite being made fun of by his family for his lack of academic success

      I mean... its a half hour comedy sitcom about a goofy funny kid who gets in trouble. You think a show about a well behaved intelligent kid would be more entertaining?

      Because statistics show overwhelmingly that rehabilitation does not work. The issue with 'punitive punishment' is the US stopped actually punishing a couple generations ago.
      When actual punishment was a thing, the crime rate in the US was much, much lower.

    I respect Eddie a lot. Just in the last 3 months when Asian Americans are finally finding their voice to protest about crappy representations and portrayals in film and TV, Eddie has been there unafraid his whole life. After the whole Chris Rock asian joke at the Oscars (referenced in Fresh off the Boat Seas 2 finale), some Asians used the #oscarssowhite platform to blast blacks for not doing enough to help them. Fair play to him for speaking about Asian anti-blackness as well. That Busta Rhymes track hating on Koreans may have been crass, but it was no lie either.
    Eddie gets it, I'm sure he has blindspots, but on the whole he's no coward he gets stuck in.

    I don't say this for a lot of people but this guy is REALLY easy to understand. Not talking about his accent. For instance most people when they talk I understand like 70% of what they say and used context to figure out the rest because most people suck at expressing themselves. But this guy I can understand 100% without having to think about it.

    The interviewer was surprised that Eddie identifies and aligns with black hip-hop culture. He said he thought people come here and "don't fuck with us, look down on us." Asians are minorities too! Whenever people talk race it's always black or white. We've been called the model minority, the forgotten minority, other nicknames because we don't fit into the norms of being a minority. Other minorities treat us like we're white because we have high median income and secondary education rates, but among whites we're treated like immigrants. Our statistical differences don't make us any less of a minority group with a unique cultural background, identity, and experience of living in America. We go through similar struggles to adapt and assimilate, except we have even less role models and representation in sports, media, and politics. Movies with Asian cast members are usually rewritten to have white actors instead (see 21 and The Last Airbender). If we're in TV shows at all it's usually as a fobby restaurant/laundromat owner for comic relief.

    • @BirdsEyeViewCaCaww
      @BirdsEyeViewCaCaww 7 лет назад +12

      Sunisa Lee just because you are a minority does not automatically mean you are for black people, just like Eddie said in this interview there are many first generation Asian immigrants who are racist against black people, black people are also aware of the fact that Asian communities feel this way. Plus Ebro spoke about the fact that other groups of people never tell black people that we influence them in a positive way or that they look to us to better understand where they might fit in America. So Eddie being part of a group that does not outwardly show love to black people, and he is genuinely speaking about his love for hip hop when he was growing up is surprising in a good way, just like how he heard wutang referencing Chinese culture surprised him in a good way

    • @sunisalee9573
      @sunisalee9573 7 лет назад

      BirdsEyeViewCaCaww I'm not talking about Asians being "for/against" African Americans. I'm saying we're all minorities and we're linked by that unique identity experience. Whether or not we recognize the common link is another thing.

    • @BirdsEyeViewCaCaww
      @BirdsEyeViewCaCaww 7 лет назад +1

      Sunisa Lee, your previous comment specifically addresses Ebro being surprised at Eddie and your response to that surprise is that "Asians are minorities too" As if to say that Ebro shouldn't have been surprised because Eddie is also a minority. You go on for the rest of your post explaining how Asians are also minorities and how that should be recognized. Explain to me how you think my comment on Asians not recognizing the common link of African Americans being a minority group, and Ebros personal experience with that which lead to his surprise; does not fit into the framework of your initial statement. How suddenly "whether we recognize that common link is another thing" in this context ?

    Eddie is really a lawyer. He passed the bar and the whole nine. But left law to pursue his passions one of which being food. A Peace To You Panda God. Peace to that God's.

    im from Winnipeg and fuck..when i heard of Wu-tang ...i was wtf. Then seeing there video on the BOX,mind blown. As a chinese guy...seeing Wu-Tang...made me love hip hop even more. Black community and the hip hop culture really changed many asian kids around the world and i really get where Eddie comes from. His story really reflects alot of my story.

    I don't think there's any writer who's happy with the way their work is adapted for stage or screen - but they still cash that check! That said, I really like this guy and they way he thinks.

    I know growing up in Australia with Italian parents, first time I went to Italy, I realised, "I'm not Italian". I've got their influence, but being raised in a totally different place, it's strange. You're never totally one or the other.

      True, but his smart doesn't come out like he's trying which is what impacted me the most; considering I had also only watched him on Huang's World where he's always fooling around with his boys. He has an effortless way of speaking his mind eloquently which I appreciate. But I see where you're coming from
