This song was Chester's favorite song and shakes me to the core hearing it after his passing. I'm in tears because the saddest part about this song is that it could be interpreted as breaking the habit of addiction. But when you watch this masterpiece of a music video Chester is showing us he broke the habit by jumping from the building breaking free of the pain because in the last chorus he says "I know I'll never be alright." Its goodbye. His spirit leaves him and becomes one with the other people struggling. It's like I can feel that spirit right with me now as I listen to it. Haunting, devastating, definitely their darkest song.

That's of the ways you can interpret the music for sure. My favorite interpretation is a more positive one. In many Linkin Park songs, the character suffers from something out of his control, like maybe it's society that's making you miserable, but this time, it's YOU who's causing suffering through toxic habits that maybe started for a good reason, but it's no longer relevant since the "I" doesn't even remember anymore. The solution is to break the toxic habit and that's what we see happening through the reversing effect: The first girl stops destroying and depricating herself; The guy stops doing drugs and the woman leaves the cheater instead of picking a fight.
I know we hear "I'll never be alright" and the Chester character kills himself, but i feel like that's putting a conclusion in the middle of the song, because the most important part comes right after: "I'll never be alright, SO i'm breaking the habit". So now it sounds less like a grim conclusion and more of a prediction that it's not gonna end well if you don't stop the self destruction. As for the Chester character we see him coming back to life, so we can assume he stopped his habit of suicidal tendencies and actually lived to finish the song.
Phew, sorry for the long reply. I've listened and thought about this song for a long time while on my lowest points and i wanted to give the perspective of someone who sees the song as more of an empowering one. I hope this helps diminishing the hauting and devastating feeling and whenever you feel like Chester is with you, maybe he wants us to step up and improve ourselves even though he couldn't. Definitely a masterpiece music video.

Crazy part is that Mike wrote the whole song, and all the art was done in Japan and directed by mr Hahn, but it’s like the song was, is, and will be the essence of Chester. My favorite song as I closely relate, specially because of my younger years.
