i don't have the musical sophistication to articulate this well, but there is something perfect about his playing. not literally, but close to it. it's just so clean, so in time with such great dynamics...i've heard a lot of good guitarists on youtube but this guy's playing is uniquely great to my ear...he just sounds so good.
Some people have put thumbs down on this Masterpiece, I know, people are entitled to their own opinion. I think I have figured out why! They have put thumbs down because they can't help it, you see these poor people have either no EARS, SMALL BRAINS, or a bit of both...Ahhhh...ignorance is bliss!!!
Have watched and listened many times over the years....so lucky we are musicianship and compositional skills of this level are made available to us given the drivel that so much of mainstream pop offers. Support this fellow and other such gifted artists across other genres and instruments.
Interesting comments. I found Michael by accident a few years ago and have always tried to listen to him when I get the time to sit down. I have played guitar over 50 years, self taught. I know not everyone likes all music, but watching Michael is like watching someone like John Williams or Andres. He is fluid guitar player, has full command of his instrument and just plays so nice. Maybe for those that don't like this, you should really sit and listen to it.
I have always loved this tune, but the way you play it Michael is the I really hear it in my head. When I want to start my day off right, like today, I will play loop this video in the background before I get doing with my day. For those 169 of you who dislike this, I would like to see you play this. Wait, I would not only like to see you play it, I would like to see you take the time to transcribe this and make your transcription available. Thanks as always Michael.
Every time I watch this (which is often) it makes me smile. Such an awesome arrangement and performance. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I do watching it. Looks like you do enjoy your work Mr.Chapdelaine. Bravo !!
A good musician always inspire others and show something new of the instrument .... and you do that so well .... glad that people like you exist .God bless you
Brilliant,... loved the interpretation and how he had the melody and feel of the piece just harmonizing together perfectly. He has a look of Australian guitarist Phil Emmanuel in this video.
All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. I've been for a walk on a winter's day. I'd be safe and warm if I was in L.A.; California dreamin' on such a winter's day. Stopped in to a church I passed along the way. Well I got down on my knees and I pretend to pray. You know the preacher liked the cold; He knows I'm gonna stay. California dreamin' on such a winter's day. All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. I've been for a walk on a winter's day. If I didn't tell her I could leave today; California dreamin' on such a winter's day. California dreamin' on such a winter's day. California dreamin' on such a winter's day.
"The lyrics of the song express the narrator's longing for the warmth of Los Angeles during a cold winter in New York City" (excerpt to WikiPedia). So the point of stepping into a church was simply to keep from the cold outside, thence "I pretend to pray". Likewise... "You know the preacher like the cold, He knows I'm gonna stay"... since the preacher knows well the church is full of people just to be warm... The smart lyrics reads: "Stepped into a church I passed along the way Well, I got down on my knees And I pretend to pray You know the preacher like the cold He knows I'm gonna stay"
really amazing! one of the best fingerstyle arrangement that I have ever heard! technique,passion,feeling,rythm,...one of the best cover of all the times!!
I am so inspired by watching these videos. Wow! just wow! Amazing! I want to keep watching, wishing I could play this way. Knowing I never will at my age but it so inspires me to keep trying.
I honestly can never figure out why a video - whereby someone puts themselves out there, does a fantastic job by anyone's standard - garners any dislikes. Let's say that the Mamas & Papas weren't your thing. You didn't like the music or the song - why click dislike? It's not like the performer did something wrong. To take the time out of your day to hate where none should be present is condemnation of your character and type of person you are.
You are of course right, but I want to console you by sharing one thing from a TV-program in Sweden sent in the 60th or 70th… Some people from different aspects of life, just ordinary people, came to the studio, where they before an audience, who didn’t know these peoples skill, did perform an act, which could be within their own profession, or not. The people in the audience had to judge which was right by pushing a button for yes or for no. Once there was a guy who played saxophone and it was obvious to anyone with the least of an ability to recognize one tone from another in a certain order, that this guy was either tone deaf or probably never had held in a saxophone before. But, 5 percent of the people in the audience could not hear the difference between a professional saxophone musician and a one who never played before. I think that people who voted negatively in this video, either have made a mistake or are as tone deaf as the five percent I referred to earlier in this text. I have stopped getting upset, even when people obviously are stupid, like when they listen to Paul Potts when he was in Germany and sung in a supermarket and one person obviously was very angry and commented that ‘it was not opera’; I would say that he new of Paul Potts from before he listened (= didn't listen), so then you have to ask yourself: “why did he go to there to listen to not-opera if he is so sensitive so he can’t listen to another performer than Pavarotti, for example! (?)” I feel it takes too much energy to be frustrated on those (not- talented) people… You don't have to be a musical genius to recognize that Michael Chapdelaine is really, really good, though! But it helps if you are one! I admire MD for recognizing other music forms as relevant as classical music! He is not snobbish, but genuine and true to himself. This is how I think of him! /Erik
It's the pure hate, inspired by having to give up on ever being a good guitarist. I get it. You loved that guitar so much, but you feel like you are doing it a disfavour in keeping it away from true skill. I would dislike a video too, if it drove me to such extremes. It is the love for their guitar, that drive people to abandon it into better hands, but the hatred of the person who made them do it. I think I understand.
Are you people for real? "You don't like the music or the song - why click dislike?" If you dislike something why would you click dislike? Are you really asking that question? And how did we get from dislike to hate? People have a right to their opinions and a right to express them here on RUclips. The real haters are the ones who complain about basic rights.

Micheal isn't understated so much as he is perfectly balanced. His confidence and comfort, tone and brightness, all are what guitar players dream of.
