If the bearing was to fail would it cause a rattle noise. Mine has a rattle from the gearbox/selector area. If i move the gearstick very slightly without touching the clutch pedal the rattle stops or sounds quieter. Also started to get slightly harder to get in some gears. Cheers
I had a problem with 4th gear on my Mk7 rwd box ended up going paid for a recon one to be put in and still same problem with 4th gear crunches and jumps out so been having to go 3rd 5th for about a month now the guy changed selector cables still the same and it's stiff getting into 1st 2nd as well any ideas what problem is? Don't want to be getting an other box again
for those interested, if your gears are sticking, first thing to do is adjust the cables.. If that don't work, then move to the selecta.. I fixed my problem by adjusting cables, then months later a bolt fell off the selecta and into the gearbox.. luckily, no damage had been done, got a flexy stick with magnet on the end and fished it out... Taking off the selecta box was a bit of a nightmare though, six bolts and some in difficult to get area's.. but managed after an hour or two...
is this selector on the back of the gearbox ? did you remove the drive shaft ? i have a 2007 MK7 100hp 2.4 rwd and im having the same problem. just looking to see is their much work in taking it off ? before i go at it cheers for your help :)
hi, did you ever get your gears sorted, i have same van as yours and gears have been sticky last 5 years, but lately they have gotten really annoying, mainly 1st 2nd and reverse is the worst, mine is a 5 speed box, any info would be appreciated
my gears are fine when stationary but trying to shift into 2nd, 3rd and sometimes first when driving is a pain in the arse. Could this be the issue? just unsure as to why the gears seem fine when stationary.
Yes this will help you, it will free up all gear changing. Just to let everyone know who has doubts about this process. The vans gears are still working now 5 years later

It's now 4 months later and gears are still smooth mate
mines off a fwd 280 and I only had to remove cables and a few bolts all under the bonnet. hope this helps

How and where do you adjust the cables mate ? Do you mean you can tighten them to compensate for stretch / wear ? Thanks
Did it come off from underneath or under the bonnet?

how hard is it to get off, 2010 transit fwd mine has just started to be a pain to get it into gear,

It'son the top of the gearbox.
do ford transit on 03 plate the gears get stuck would be the cble if are they easy to do

that would fix it for about a day - new shaft £50 - bearing £13 ish - seal £6 - parts from ford
Not that hard mate you should be able to do the lot in a few hours. just a bit of back ache
