  • The Pepper seedlings are under the Grow Lights! Some of the Tomatoes are starting to germinate, so they are headed to the grow lights too. Check out the progress of the seedlings I started last week. So far, the germination was excellent and the progress is better than expected.

    Alan, I could not tell from the video, but I would suggest using a piece of rigid foam insulation below the heat mat. That way all the heat energy is going into the trays/water and non is lost heating the air underneath the heat mat (on an open wire type rack) or the table/plywood, etc... I also use saran type wrap on my smaller cell starts. I just take a rubber band to hold it tight to the cell pack and I can puff it up like a dome. I'm like you and like my LED grow lights right on the plants. I have a stack of boxes and rigid foam I use to adjust the height with as they grow. Keeping them close to the light gives you nice strong stocky plants. Don't feel bad about timing of planting. I'm running behind as are several other people I know. We are removing our old rotten raised beds and replacing them with 17" metal Olle beds this year. Going to be interesting.

      @BIGALTX  7 месяцев назад

      I think you will like the metal beds.
      I do have a piece of cardboard under the heat mat to try to direct the heat up a little bit.

    Started my pepper seeds back on Feb 9th, and most are already coming up. Some are still emerging. I'm also going to grow the roulette habanero this year, along with the helios regular heated habanero. I also got some of the Collusses Jalapeno and a new pepper that's kind of intriguing to me is a "Chinese Five Color" pepper. These plants emerged and are turning a deep purple color. Only thing I can figure is it's supposed to look that way, because NONE of the other pepper plants did that and it's the same potting mix I made for all of this trays soil.
    I started some Tomato seeds but put those in my greenhouse but it's lacking in germination because of the weather fluctuation temps. Below freezing in the mornings and over 100 degrees this evening. Even with the door open on it and one end raised up and a block under it to allow air flow.
    I just joined another RUclips sight called Black Gumbo with a guy named Scott. He's doing a #SeedStartingChallenge2024 where you plant just 1 seed and keep up to date progresses on that one particular seed. I'm thinking about getting involved in it and trying it out. Anyways, Looking forward to more videos, keep em coming. God Bless.

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  7 месяцев назад

      @@tambrasmith9707 No. I've thought about it. I have one, but so far have plenty of other options. Mine is plastic (Rubbermaid), so if I planted in it I would just make it a raised bed. I wouldn't do anything to damage it because I might need it for animals later

      Tomato's love the heat to germinate. I pull them off the heat as soon as they start popping up. i keep them about 65 degrees
