  • Ahoy Mateys! Ridgid claims their newest power solution is powerful which I believe HOWEVER, I'm not sold on the noticeable "run cooler" claims from the redesigned heat sinks.

Not really a fair test of ridgids claims or their new exp batteries running cooler. Those batteries were running for basically double the amount of time as the 4ah, so with reason it will be warmer or just as warm. A much more accurate test would be to have both batteries at the same temp before testing, record your baseline, then run the 4ah until 0% soc, note how long runtime is, measure heat of battery, then run the 8ah for exactly the same amount of time that the 4ah lasted, then stop and check temp of the 8ah at precisely that time. That way it would be a true apple to apples test

I get what you mean however I did want to push the new heatsinks. Yes in theory more runtime = more heat production but it is still impressive to have twice the runtime and the difference be only a few degrees at most. Appreciate your feedback!

They need to start making stacked lithium flat battery packs like flex,Dewalt and milwaukee

They actually just announced a 4 ah TABLESS max output exp. Solves the issue of bottlenecking discharge rates from pin or tab style battery connections to really get the most of the 21700 cells. You are right though, pouch or stacked energy would make the batteries much thinner and fit more consistent energy. Thank you for sharing

yikes. wait for the black friday deals and LOAD UP on batteries and free promotions. Flexvolt DeWalts and 40v Ryobi batteries are 150-200 each for 2-3 ahs. that's rough on non-trade workers looking to build a collection.

There are no major benefits to brushless motors in an application like this.

Power management with cordless tools is paramount to longer battery life and stronger and even potentially quieter from the brushes not arcing or suffering from friction when worn against a commutator. Brushless motors carry out the work longer, harder, and slightly quieter. Right now milwaukees fuel for example is at 2.5 gal so we are getting to the point ridgid will be able to put a BL motor into their 12, 14 and 16 gal NXT vacs.
