What college did you eventually commit to? on top of that what extracurriculars did you take, did you take any internships, how many AP's did you take, what was your GPA (W and UW), and what was your SAT and ACT? sorry for asking so many questions, I am just trying to get a sort of baseline for me, and what things I should do throughout the rest of my high school career, I am currently a sophomore. Also congratulations on getting into Berkley! Thank you!

    • @johnn.nnguyen

Thank you so much! Totally understand. That was me almost a year ago, too. These are all valid questions!!! I appreciate your questions and concerns.
I eventually committed to one of the schools in CA (which I will not reveal until hopefully a next video 👀). I will also be doing another video on stats, extracurriculars, and the classes that I took simultenusoly during high school soon.
But to give you a brief gist of it, I did not partake in any internships nor take too many AP Classes (not until my Junior year). I believe I took a total of 6 AP Classes between Junior (2) and Senior year (4). My Unweighted GPA was a 4.0 and my Weighted GPA was around a 4.5 - 4.6. My main extracurriculars were being apart of ASB and my Boys Volleyball Team throughout my entire HS career. I also worked during HS.
My quick tips and advice as a Sophomore are to...
      1) get involved in whatever it is at school - create new friendships, get to know your teachers, join clubs, etc and see what perfectly fits you!
      2) take as many challenging classes as you can (Honors, AP's), while also maintaining a balance of good grades at the same time
      3) partake in community service projects or get involved in some sort of volunteering event throughout HS
      4) maintain a great relationship with ALL OF YOUR TEACHERS from now until senior year (or when you apply to college). be a great student, participate, get on top of your work, etc. you never know when you will need to come back to any of your teachers (even from freshman year) and ask them for a letter of recommendation (for college applications). it is important you maintain that stature and your personal connection with friends/teachers because it will pay off lots in the end.
that''s just a short bit of it. hope that helps! good luck with everything :)

What about cal State Fresno 🤔🤔🤔

    • @johnn.nnguyen
      @johnn.nnguyen  11 месяцев назад

I'm sure CalState Fresno is a great school with tons of programs to offer. If you are interested and willing to go there, give it a shot!!! For me, my philosophy going into college applications were to just apply to schools I would ACTUALLY want to attend and feel comfortable going to. Again, keep in mind that applying to schools does cost money (except for special circumstances, i.e waivers, financial aid, etc.). I did not do much research on all the Cal States because 1) I found other schools that suited my options and career pathways better and 2) I only knew of certain Cal States around me that I knew had my program. I am sure Cal State Fresno would love to have and accept you into their school, if you do decide to go there!
      Good luck with everything! :)

@@snappyturtle1018 Those ECs don't look bad. I don't think they are the only activities you have participated in which is not part of your academics. You can record relevant activities like a summer job, responsibilities to your family. A volunteer then is as well relevant or a skill that you believe can pass for an ec. Codin, writing etc. It matters how you describe them, a quantifiable manner ( as a wrestling team captain how many people did you preside over, any touching story during your term, trophies, memebership etc.) An IB diploma is a very competitive course so with a good essay you can get it. All the best

Absolutely! There is always a chance. Every school takes into account so MANY various, yet different things into the application process. With what you have, I definitely think you have a good chance to get accepted. Remember, the college application is holistic. They take into account not just grades, but also extracurriculars, classes you took, essays, how you did in terms of your class/school, etc (the list goes on!). IB is a GREAT thing to have on your application. I wish I had it at my school.
I did not take ACT, but I did take the SAT, yet did not self-report my score. And that is totally okay if you don't!!! Hopefully with the other things in your application and resume, it will be able to complement as standouts to the colleges.
Hope that helps! I am expecting to release another video in regards to my extracurriculars, stats, classes, etc. Let me know if you have any questions and I would love to include it possibly into the next video!

That makes sense. Im applying as a cs major this year and it’s pretty stressful knowing how competitive cs programs have gotten. But I’d rather pursue a major I enjoy than something else just because cs is competitive.
