It's definitely the controller. Most stock EVs come with lower powered controllers. If you are upgrading go for a new Kelly controller and possibly a motor (qs motor 260 - 20kw for 160km/h). I bought one of these cheap bikes specifically to mod them up with the parts I mentioned.
@@mothafus Correct, I'm just saying that if the specs of the controller is correct and no corners were cut, it should be able to supply 100A to the motor (unless software capped or motor draw less than that)

Will they though? I bought a faulty charger on ali-express, and even with full video documentation of it being faulty (including me using 2 different volt meters and demonstrating that my testing equipment worked) they gave me half my money back, with the explanation "you can still use the charger." I couldn't use the charger as it 100% didn't work, which I very well demonstrated on video....so even if this guy has all of this on video demonstrating that it's faulty, they might not care. It's probably a good first step to try, but expecting a quick and good resolution might be a stretch.

I say that because of personal experience, not only me but a few of my friends too. I know a few people from China (personally) and very important people, the business world, even one of my costumers is from Germany and he is doing all business from China and he himself told me few things how China trade is working, will be really smart to report this company what they did to you and especially on Aliexpress site, so they can take care of that , and you will see its working.
Turn the bike on while connecting it🤦🏼♂️ it’s like plugging up a iPhone charger into a Mac book and u have to part the charger into the phone and turn the phone on so u can transfer your stuff
Lower spec than advertised is China's whole deal. The only real performance gain you can get is upping the voltage, as with any electric motor. But it's more money and pain for minimal gains with a small motor. I'd really suggest just selling it and moving on. It would probably sell quickly in the fruitcup state anyways, for damn near your investment.
When you see that you could not get up to that speed you should have put that shit back in the box and sent it back to them, did somebody on the customer service and having to troubleshoot it for you without you dismantling the bike because you just destroyed the so-called warranty on a piece of overpriced but nice looking shit;;🤔
yeah man, add some edelbrock heads, maybe 1.6 roller rockers, change out the cam to solid lifter with more duration and lift, change out the intake & jets on the carb then finish it off with more spark, more timing and some headers to dump all that extra air you'll be moving...
Thy started to carry some Chinese electric motorcycles here. Paying an extra $500 or so is worth the headaches and loss by dealing locally if buying local is an option.
You’ve obviously never bought something directly from China... good luck even getting a hold of “ customer service” and even if you do, they make it such a hassle it wouldn’t be worth it. Not to mention the cost of shipping it back would make him actually lose money. Most of the time they will say that “ will return purchase price when they receive returned product” knowing full well you won’t send it. If you do send it back for whatever reason, it’ll just get “lost in shipping”. Best advice is to make sure you don’t spend too much on anything from China. You rarely get what they advertise and returns or refunds are out of the question.
this almost looks like my zone s , look for a single wire under the cowling near the battery box , left side .. there may be a wire labeled " please do not unplug " .. unplug it
The Zone S uses the RZ design. This is the DP model. The most obvious difference being the fairings, front indicator, and seat. Daymak EM2 uses this design. Kind of funny about the wire label, which would be the limiter. He has opened it up in a previous video, but unfortunately there is no such wire on this.
Wow I actually felt your pain in this video, if I was you ..I would sell it on Craigslist as a beginner bike ..be truthful about the speed.. and sell it for the price that you bought it for.

I know that limiters come as a nikel-copper alloy current shunt of wich a microcontroller reads a voltage drop and reduces the pwm duty cycle, per phase, accordingly. Also I know that windows virtual serial ports come out with stupid numerotations when a cp28xx (or similar) interface is plugged. Also, some microcontrollers, mostly due to the software running, enable eeprom or flash programming only in certain situations, like at boot or when the rts/cts serial pins are waved. :) Fortunately, ebikes are a bit more than plugging or unplugging a cable to unleash the deamon... or something.

Hello Inja, I've been following your blog as I too am a keen motorcyclist and for the first time was considering buying an electric bike for commuting to work (appx 30 miles). Thank you for your constant updates regarding your purchase. I will not be going electric anytime soon until its been properly tried and tested. And certainly not a motorcycle from ALIBABA (AliExpress)
Brother. One look at your controller tells me all I need to know. It should be twice as big. And 72 volts. Maybe 42 MPH. You need a minimum 120 volts. That's the battery and controller. You might be able to overvolt your current motor with upgraded controller and battery. Try it. Worst case you blow your motor and buy a new one. A crytalis will do the job. Forget software and limiters. That's all BS. I went thru it myself. 120 volt controller/ 120 amp. true 5 to 7 kw motor. 120-volt battery. You will go 60 pluss and do wheelies. It's going to cost you another grand min. Period.
Thank you so much for letting everyone know about your experience, maybe it will help someone else avoid this mistake and NEVER spend more on something from Alibaba than you can throw away because 40% of the time you'll get screwed.
It is a 72volt 3000watt motor, its probably the controller that's causing it to be slow, for an easy fix solution you can just get your self another controller with a higher Amps discharge together with a compatable battery specs 72v obviously. Some controller you could try are *yuyangking controller* *sinewave controller* I hope this advise could help you a little bit.
I got a 12kw ebike from Leili ebikes on Alibaba and the second I started having issues they stopped messaging me back. I was even using WhatsApp to talk to a guy 1 on 1 regularly. Then my controller started pooping out and he disappeared. They barely knew what they were doing when it came to getting my order correct. Even after correcting them via email OVER AND OVER they still mail me a bike with the wrong colored wheels and wrong seat.
They often have have multiple colors, in the pics, and worse, multiple designs. You need to get a pic of exactly what they're sending you before it ships if that matters to you. Then of course they stop responding if you have any issues.
Ever tried to see if your ports are right on your laptop, you laptop might be the one not connecting not your bike , you have everything right for your bike but it looks like you could see if it's com4 or com2 to see if your laptop is on the right port
I know this is months old and not sure if you got this working but something to try as an IT guy. Right-click the software>Properties>Compatibility>Check Run this program as an Administrator. The fire up the software and see if it connects.
Try changing the baud rate on the VOTOL-EM-V3 software program. The serial chip needs to convert to CAN and CAN most common baud rates are 125 kbit/s (default CANopen) and 250 kbit/s (J1939). Not sure what the exact baud rate is needed to make the converter work, but the error your getting sounds like a baud rate mismatch.
That error that you got, it must be something to do with the com port driver... try to find the device driver for that controller and install it in your laptop, disconnect then connect the wire (USB wire or what ever is connecting your motorcycle to your laptop), turn on your motorcycle, then wait if your laptop detects the motorcycle, then you can click the connect button on the software that you are using.. This might help a bit, or someone might get an idea out of this.
So I have a Chinese electric bike in the Philippines. If you want it to hit 60mph you need to increase the voltage. Yes you can disconnect the governor and that will help a bit, but you wont jump 40% in speed. Chances are you have lead acid battery, so you would need to add another battery, and due to the size it most likely wont fit. The only option you will have is to build a custom lithium battery and that will probably cost you more than the bike. Probably not the news you wanted to hear.
It's in the "How I Bought" video. I'm funneling people to that video because I explain everything about buying one of these in detail and make sure you know the consequences and my experience ordering it. ☕
All this is good to know. I worked for an MC dealer (not electric) that tried to help owners of Knockoff Chinese clones of ATV & dirt bike models even though they seemed to be direct competition. It was soon learned that the products were too cheap to work on. Too many things broke getting to the problem. At least the competition factor faded quick. Sorry to see this happening to you hope you get it worked out. I am thinking 1500 may be too low a price point for a 62 mph bike.
Hey! I noticed you are running windows 10. When working with drivers that are unsigned or made by non-recognized companies, there is a lockout in windows. You have to do advanced startup options "Disable driver signature enforcement.” This can be achieved with going to the start menu. power button (bringing up restart, shutdown...) then hold SHIFT + click restart. it should bring you to recovery after restart. Then go to trouble shoot, advanced options. Then finally "start up settings". From there you will restart to a new screen where option F7 allows your drivers!!! You may have the drivers...but unless you've done this, it's locked out!
That is actually perfect to keep it a moped in Va. This is important because no registration, no inspection, and most importantly no stupid tax from the government to own it.
In the future before purchasing, pay to have the merchandise inspected to insure it's the right stuff your buying. I learned this with toolboxes that I source from China.

Hate to tell you other countries have landed craft on the moon also. The Chinese did it this year. You must have not seen that, it was on the dark side of the moon.
Just my thoughts, "if you didn't hear this before" I would check the voltage of the batteries to see what its putting out. To me it looks like there is more room for more batteries so they might have only gave you half the voltage. I agree with others in using a older computer for the serial port. had the same kind of problems with milling machine i made. it didn't like the USB adapter. A older desk top computer helped but not a older laptop for some reason. I didn't notice if the power was on with the bike when you tried to connect. It might need that, USB especially on laptops don't provide a lot of amps. I hope I helped if not well, good to know you not alone and we all here to support you on this project. Good luck and keep us inform on your progress.
That motor is 2,880 watts of power max. Do you know even if the batteries are giving the full 72 volts at max power? Many things to test and check, but it just plainly appears to be grossly under powered on what was advertised.
As many are saying, open a dispute, either with Alibaba or with your bank depending on if you paid by credit card or otherwise if there's a trail. You can claim that the merchandise was misrepresented or not as described.
The controller sends serial data using a RS485 protocol, NOT CANBUS. Use a RS485 to USB cable, download CH341SER driver, see which COM port got assigned to it by the computer (check in device manager), enter that COM port into the software and then it work.
I noticed at 10:50 the motor beginning code is 72V40HJ. While HJ doesn't mean anything, I'm sure it is a 72V motor, so that part makes sense. If you mulitiple 72 x 40 you get 2,880 or basically 3kW which would explain the lack of power and top speed. It probably is a scam, which is too bad since $1500 doesn't seem so bad for a ~35-40 mph bike with a full-sized person on it. I wonder how far it goes on a charge.
Actually, i saw on their website that $1500 is for the 50kmph model....the one that you are having right now.... This means that ur motor would be having power rating between 2000W to 2500W..... On the right side of the speedometer there looks to be settings 1-4. When you were doing your speed test, it was on "1." Since your programming controller is connecting via a serial connection over USB make sure you are plugged into a USB 2.0 port and not a 3.0 port. While USB 3.0 is technically backwards compatible ive had issues just like this which were fixed by using a different usb port.
Add better batteries, double the voltage, watch it fly
Crazy LiPo setup. lol
I wanna see this thing actually get a 5000w motor and a decent controller. It should move pretty damn good with a true 5000w
Frame, wheels, ancillary electrics and bodywork all look good, right?
@@omardude39 yeah it does...at least for me.
The price will go up. The factory can definitely build a similar model with that kind of motor.
hey i actually had one of theses sold it and got a faster one but the speed is in direct relation to the motor generally so if its stuck at 70 kmh thats a 2000w motor sorry the seller definitely scammed you
So now that you know the speedo max speed, compare that to a gps reading...speedo might not be accurate either.
Mine goes faster than the speedo says, so yes should try this,
A lot of these Chinese bikes have a limiter that turns off after a certain amount of miles like 50 - 300 miles.
That's trippy
@@ianmangham4570 yea they call it the break in period to try and reduce crashes for new riders since the tires are new
Sometimes it's also configurable in the "Settings" or there is an actual limiter somewhere in the circuitry.

Yep. That thing is basically a Razor scooter.
Damn dude it’s almost like it’s FROM CHINA
Dispute this guy and give him a fat zero rating in Alibaba dude.
A quick google search returned 100A at 72V for that Votol EM-100, which means it can handle 7.2k watts
Where did you get it from ?
The motor is rated 70KPH for 72V, so unless you overvolt it, the controller is not the limiting factor.
@@daijoubu4529 The motor takes 120A peak, that is the electrical power draw, not the power the motor makes.

Alibaba, and there is a dispute process there too. Failing that, if he paid by CC, they're usually pretty good about false advertising.
Why opening a dispute if you can blameing allllll the time you want? Complaining on sosial media are cOOoLLlL!!!!
IF you buy that from Alibaba, why don't you report them to Alibaba, they will take care of that, you will see and very fast
Robert Glancer ... I really doubt that , China wants people to buy their scams and cheap crap so they can be millionaires
@@BillyBob-ib5df Is that based on personal experience or is that an overarching statement without the benefit of any actual interaction with Alibaba?

The only real performance gain you can get is upping the voltage, as with any electric motor. But it's more money and pain for minimal gains with a small motor.
I'd really suggest just selling it and moving on. It would probably sell quickly in the fruitcup state anyways, for damn near your investment.

It just sucks that even smaller cc motorcycles aren't in the market, as a small person who wants to get the basics down first, I cant find anything that's either a project bike or overpriced bikes from a dealer that are 250cc and lower

I think the electrics still need more time to be perfected for reasonable cost.
There definately is a limiter. It's usually a 4pin wire going to the controller. But regardless good attempt my dude!

Fortunately, ebikes are a bit more than plugging or unplugging a cable to unleash the deamon... or something.

Fuck you gasman you piece of shit.....
Period.
Try getting an old computer with Windows XP
Exactly like an Panasonic toughbook with a serial 9 pin port it always works for me on programming chinese crap
Agreed. If you're using a USB to serial rs232 adapter, I'd try a different one or a much older laptop with old Windows version on it.
Also, even if you do the above steps, expect you'll need to play around with baud rate and COM port settings to get it to work.
Agree with using an actual serial (rs232) port. I have an old laptop for just this reason.
This!
That's Chinese for you, when you're still with your money you are the boss but when you give them your money they are the boss.

It is a 72volt 3000watt motor, its probably the controller that's causing it to be slow, for an easy fix solution you can just get your self another controller with a higher Amps discharge together with a compatable battery specs 72v obviously.

Also you could probably use a Arduino base programming software to edit it out and then put your port on then upload it

The Inja for sure thanks man appreciate it subbed and 🔔✌️

Saw your problem...on the software try changing the com field to a different port to connect with the controller
I had the same issue. I took my Mars rover to a local place that deals with Apollo vehicles and they sorted it out.
You can’t even drive these on the highway in Canada some highways are 110
I would like to know where you currently feel you're "stuck at" with the bike? Thanks brother.
Just contact the controller company. They should be able to walk you through it.

You have to do advanced startup options "Disable driver signature enforcement.”
This can be achieved with going to the start menu. power button (bringing up restart, shutdown...) then hold SHIFT + click restart. it should bring you to recovery after restart. Then go to trouble shoot, advanced options. Then finally "start up settings". From there you will restart to a new screen where option F7 allows your drivers!!!
You may have the drivers...but unless you've done this, it's locked out!
Good to know, but I also tried it on Windows 7 and same error. I think the cable may be the wrong one or not working right.

I agree with others in using a older computer for the serial port. had the same kind of problems with milling machine i made. it didn't like the USB adapter. A older desk top computer helped but not a older laptop for some reason. I didn't notice if the power was on with the bike when you tried to connect.
Chinese lithium batteries like many Chinese metals and manufacturing have a much larger window of tolerance/flaws.
OR look at the glass half full, and transplant all the working parts onto an actual bicycle and skip the road laws altogether!
Have you got the rear brake on the right hand bar, that would drive me nuts...
I was just thinking that, too. also it looks like he used the left brake to stop the rear wheel before he used the right brake.

"baud rate" is misspelled... not a good sign : )
