i temeber when my son had holes in his pants. and it was actually cheaper to get new pants thN to pay someone to put patches on his jeans. i finally found an older woman who patched his thick jeans on a machine for $1 to $2 a patch. sewn both sides. my hands havent worked liked they did many many many yrs ago. its a shame these skills arent taught anymore. the wastefullness is just ridiculous. again thank u for sharing this skill with everyone and yes my grandma taught me how to mend and sew when i was very little. and she used to have me help do the laundry starting as young as 2 yrs old. yes 2 yers old. she also taught me how to iron too. she was an amazing woman. who came theu ellis island from poland. and shared all the recipes from when she was little. too. to this day i have fond memories of grandma. im 70 yrs old today. and i can clearly see her in my memories in my mind. ty for letting me share this with u. many blessings to u and howie and sweet gracie too.
So nice ! The generations moving forward think it’s manual labor . Just trash they say and buy new . Older sheets are better. I’ve got sheets that are from the seventy’s. Color is still good and fabric is still very good. Try buying that quality now. Hahaha. Was bought from Sanger Harris. Maybe someone remembers that store. It was high quality back then. I looked at sheets now not paying 250.00 for sheets !
I remember my grandma teaching me how to darn items that needed to be fixed. She was such an amazing person! She taught me so many skills that are lacking in today’s society. This video reminded me of her! Thank you Bev for bringing a very special moment back to me!❤
Great job, Bev. I have darned socks and jeans. I taught my daughter when she was young. She can do it well. Thank you so much for the throwback videos. Im enjoying them immensely. Much love from Thunder Bay Ontario
You are a great teacher! I have learned so much from you. My mom darned but with the sewing machine and it looked like she used silly string from a can! Bless her heart.
Good job Bev, I had an expensive king size comforter that I darned because I love that comforter. I have a sock that I need to darn, but I need to get my marble egg out to darn it, it’s just a tiny hole, but will get bigger. I just learned to crochet and I’m going to make some scurbbies for washing dishes that can be washed in the washing machine and reused. Have a blessed day ❤️🤗🙏
Awesome Bev. Thanks, that’s a good one. You could be a home economics teacher. This takes me back to High school Home Economics class in the late 60s. I don’t think they have those classes anymore. But they should!
Oh thank you for that Bev. I never knew how to darn at all! I’ve learned so much from watching your videos. You started me on my canning journey. I bearded to can and dehydrate and you just started me on my prepping journey which has grown into other things. I started watching you back in 2014 when all the other channels. Perbain, Bexar Prepper,Katzcradul. Miss all of them. Time marches on and we get into different seasons in life. Be blessed Bev!
Oh, I think it would cost more than $45 for a king sized sheet set. You paid yourself at least $60 for less than an hour's work. I've two sheets waiting for me to darn, so thanks for this video. It was the kick in the behind I needed. Also, it's fun to sit and darn while looking out the window watching the snow fly. Hugs and Blessings, Bev. 💜 from me and my pups to you, your little darling and your husband, as well. Lost my husband 13 year ago, and it's like it was only yesterday. Thanks for your videos. Sure appreciate them.
I was also taught to do this and socks. I also have the old singer treadle machine. I like it better than my electric sewing machine. Hugs and kisses to all. Stay safe 💕
When the kids were still home, every once in a while I'd have a mending night. Tell everyone to give me anything that needed a button or repair. I'd put the thread to match each item in as a bowl, grab my pincushion, make a tea and put the tv on. Mending knitted items like t-shirts or leggings is different than woven items and a bit fussier, but it can be done 😄 I love slow stitching by hand, whether it's EPP or fixing holes in clothes.
thank you for sharing this. sure would have come in handy last year when i had to throw away a king size fitted sheet because of this EXACT issue! Toes got stuck in it and ripped it HUGE! LoL Better late than never!!!
Bev, are you actually pulling the ripped edges together? Or are you actually creating fabric with the thread where the edges are not coming together? I appreciate this video as I am currently learning to darn. Thank you Bev.
Thank you so much!
Thank You, I needed this lesson desperately!
Ty
A great skill that needs to br brought back for the next generation.
great job
Darn Great
Very cool! I've never seen that done before
Bev you are one patient and talented frugal gal!
I needed this video, I have a set of sheets with a tear. Thank you!
Thank You
Sweet Memories
Reinforced !

You are a great mom!
Bravo!
I think that's wonderful that you do that. So many people would make it into rags. It's good to remember the old ways.
Well done 👍
U have great patience!
watching in replay
I darn and then patch because the patch adds extra strength to the fabric.
This being a bottom sheet a patch would get caught on a toenail or a rough heel. That's why I chose to darn.
You are a great teacher! I have learned so much from you. My mom darned but with the sewing machine and it looked like she used silly string from a can! Bless her heart.
It sounds like your mom was a very creative person! 😉
Well i just learned something new thanks so much. That would probably work on flannel sheets too. God Bless 🙏❤️🙏

You’re most welcome, and I hope you enjoy your new crocheted scurbbies!
I would not have the patience to sew that!
Awesome Bev. Thanks, that’s a good one. You could be a home economics teacher. This takes me back to High school Home Economics class in the late 60s. I don’t think they have those classes anymore. But they should!
You are right, they really should bring those classes back!
Great job as always. Love from Norfolk in the UK 👍

I have a large hoop , use for hand quilting a quilt. I don't have a quilting frame.
This is a great skill to know. So many, including myself, have no idea how to do that. Now I do 😄 Thank you.

Mending night is a great idea!
Reminds me having a few holy socks and a shirt of the husband's to darn.

Hibev❤❤
I had no idea how to do this!!! Can I also replace stretched out elastic on the fitted sheet? If so how?
Only real ones know this is a re-upload 😂
What was your first clue? was it the word throwback in the title?
Bev, are you actually pulling the ripped edges together? Or are you actually creating fabric with the thread where the edges are not coming together? I appreciate this video as I am currently learning to darn. Thank you Bev.
I'm not pulling the fabric together I am weaving in a new patch with the threads that are already there and new thread on my needle.
Okay, thank you very much.
