Hi Carl & TEFL, I’ve been certified for a few months now and actively applying since then. All of the positions I’ve applied to from the TEFL website and on Indeed have either never responded to my application or have rejected me and said that my certificate wasn’t enough for the job. Just for clarification I have the 120 hour certificate and I’m applying for remote tutoring jobs. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!
I am in the same position. I have the 120hr certificate, plus specialisations in online teaching and business English, as well as the online practicum. I have 2 degrees and extensive experience in training (just not teaching English). I have been VERY patient and have been trying to get a job for over 9 months. I am still trying and remaining patient, but in my experience, the online 120 hour certificate does NOT seem to be a good qualification for getting a job. Employers seem to want Celta or an in person TEFL course.
Great question Sukhdeo! You could either opt for a virtual background for your video calls (probably the easiest), or just keep it really simple and plain. You want the focus to be you on the call so limit any visual clutter or distractions
By the way, i am a retired professor from the university. I taught courses of Anthropology and thesis workshop for 30 years
